I normally don't write reviews because you get some good and some bad products. No company can be perfect.
However I felt impelled to write a review for this product because of the price compared to other fingerprint readers. I can't really rate this product because I never got it to work before sending it back. I purchased this product based on other reviews but mostly on the claims on the item page. It claims to work well and fast, easy install. I tried installing this item on three different computers, Windows 7, Windows 10, and windows 11. I got the same errors on all 3 computers:
Your device is having trouble recognizing you.
Make sure your sensor is clean.
Sorry, something went wrong.
Close Windows Hello, and try going through the setup again.
Move your finger slightly lower.
Move your finger slightly higher.
Move your finger slightly to the left.
Identical on all computers and operating systems.
I am going to need over 100 of these for computer protection and if it is this hard to install on one computer I don't have the time to waste on 100+ computers.
This item might work well for some but if it is that sensitive it won't work for my purpose anyway.
The software is ROBOFORM.(I was disapointed)
Tech suport was the best I have received. (Saved the day, BIG Selling point)
I am computer literate but not comfortable downloading software updates and reconfiguring security settings on my computer, which is what I had to do. After 2 or 3 hours of following the step by step directions and watching tutorials on youtube. I had the ROBOFORM software installed and a MASTER password working.
ROBOFORM software required me to create a user sign password to use when I start my computer. Now I scan my finger to bypass the password I just had to create.
The ROBOFORM software placed an additional task bar on my Internet server, as I accessed each of my secure sites it allowed me to save it to the new task bar. The software allows me to save up to 10 secure sites, the software is quick to offer you the option to pay for unlimited number of secure sites.
It seemed all I did was create a password to gain acess to my computer which I could scan my finger to by pass. ROBOFORM would automatically fill in my user ID and password to the 10 sites I selected as I went to that site from the ROBOFORM task bar on my Internet browser. That did not seem any more secure than when I started.
I wanted to scan my finger to gain acess to each secure site as I went to that site. What I had was a system which forced me to scanned my finger once as the computer started then any one could click on a secure site from the ROBOFORM task bar and the software automaticly fills in my user ID and password. I was disapointed. I did not feel this offered any more security than before.
I called tech support. He was very user friendly, he spoke clearly, I could understand him, and he helped, me through his personal knowledge, as he owns and uses the software himself. He talked me through resetting the default time features which, in essence, created the need for me to scan my finger each time I wanted to gain access to one of my secure sites. This is what I wanted.
I am satisfied.
The hardware seems to be very well made.
The software was not what I expected..a bit disappointing, until I spoke with tech support, which made the whole system, experience, very worth while. Tech suport was user friendly, competent. Tech suport saved the day.
This remains, as far as I can tell, THE premium fingerprint reader, and is priced accordingly.
Again, a far as I know: this company is the only one that makes an FBI approved fingerprint reader, used on their gun safes.
The only issue I ever have is that in winter, my skin is sometimes very dry and under those circumstances, the reader occasionally (connected to my desktop PC) has a tough time reading my print. Putting things in perspective, the reader on my (expensive) company laptop reads absolutely nothing at all under the same circumstances.
As noted by the company in big bold letters which people still seem to ignore - you MUST download and install drivers for the reader. It's very easy to do, but not optional.
Personally, I like Roboform and use it everyday, just don't confuse the function or effectiveness of Roboform with the effectiveness of the fingerprint reader - two separate companies, with separate products, and it just suits their marketing purposes to "hold hands" from time to time. If you have an issue with Roboform, that isn't the fault of the print reader.
