The modem (as are all modems) was extremely easy to install. Plug in, call ISP and you are good. The speeds are fantastically fast and this modem was well worth the price.
****I purchased this white SB6141 over the black SB6141 for one main reason. If you do your research you will notice that the Black SB6141 are only issued to ISP's from Motorola. Meaning, if you purchase a black model from Amazon (or any store), you are purchasing a used or refurbished product (they also ship in ordinary brown cardboard boxes). The only consumer model of the SB6141 is the white model which ships in traditional packaging. The white model is THE ONLY model that comes with a warranty from Motorola. I know this because I called Motorola twice and spoke to two (2) different reps who said the same thing; "Black boxes are for ISP's and do not have a warranty while the white boxes are for consumers and come with a warranty". Further complicating matters is that the black SB6141's usually have old firmware on them because they were generally made a few years ago. White SB6141 have newer or the newest firmware because they are shipping directly from the manufacturer. Your ISP may or may not flash customer owned modems to the newest firmware. If you purchase the Black model, you might be purchasing a 3 year old modem with no chance of upgrading it (also remember that you cannot flash your own modem's firmware).
Do yourself a favor and research this white consumer model over the black ISP model before you pull the trigger. I spent 20 bucks more for the white SB6141 so I could have peace of mind and I would strongly encourage you to do the same.*****
The only "con" I have about this modem is that the blue lights on the modem ARE BRIGHT AS @#%&$. Seriously, at night, my living room is glowing blue from the lights. I really cannot express enough how bright the lights are. You were warned.
I got this modem to save money with "Time Warner Cable". When "TWC" started charging $5.99 per month for internet modem rental, I decided to use my own modem to save the money. Of the modems approved by "Time Warner", "Amazon" (as usual) had the best prices and shipped quickly. This modem was easy to install. The "Motorola" instructions were very well written as were the "TWC" instructions provided online for "Using Your Own Modem". Once the modem was installed, I called "Time Warner" TECH support here near Greensboro, NC. With the clearly provided "MAC" address provided by "Motorola" with the modem, it took the technician (on the phone) about 15 minutes to finally get it addressed on the "TWC" network. Once it was addressed by their system, it worked perfectly as expected. I verified the $5.99 reduction in my "TWC" bill and all is good.
After the "TWC" TECH (on the phone) got my modem "addressed" on their network, I asked if he could "push" the latest firmware to this modem. He said "yes" and in a few minutes, he DID verify the firmware version of my modem (as indicated with the modem instructions) and said it was the "latest" firmware. Now I cannot prove he addressed my modem firmware but since he did, accurately, give me the firmware version of my modem, I do suspect that "TWC" can and will "push" the firmware for this modem even though it belongs to me. That may only be true for "TWC" in this Greensboro, NC area. I cannot verify this for every "TWC" location.
I have been using this modem for about one month now and it is working fine. After it was installed and working for about a week, I lost my internet connection for reasons unknown. I did a reboot (power off then power on) of both this modem AND my router and that solved the problem. I have not had any problems since then in the last three weeks. These types of "re-boots" don't bother me. I've been playing with and using computer communication electronics for about 30 years and find a "glitch" of that type to be normal. From past experience in my area (near Greensboro NC), it could have been a power glitch on my electrical service that caused the problem. That does happen here on occasion and is certainly not a fault of the modem.
Some reviews have indicated increased data speeds with this modem. That has NOT been the case for me. My download speeds were usually about 10MBS to 15MBS and my upload speeds were about 1MBS with the "TWC" modem and that is what I am paying for. With this "Motorola Surfboard" modem, the data speeds are about the same. I have noticed no appreciable change in data speed either "down" or "up" with this modem but that is what I expected. I didn't get this modem hoping it would speed up my internet connection with "TWC". After all, "TWC" is only going to allow what I am paying for. This modem does save me the $5.99 per month rental fee and that is why I got it.
This is a MODEM ONLY. Many people ask if this is Wifi or a router and it is NOT. It has only ONE coax cable input for your cable TV (broadband internet) input and ONE RJ45/Cat 5 cable output to distribute as you may wish to a sole PC or your own choice of network router. Because I get my phone, internet and TV, on my "TWC" cable, I had to split my "TWC" phone modem input two ways to use this modem. One side of the splitter output goes to my "TWC Arris" digital phone modem for my continued "TWC" phone service and the other splitter output goes to this new "Surfboard" modem for internet access. As I said earlier and is clearly indicated, this "Surfboard" modem is NOT a WiFi router. I am using a "Cat 5" network cable from this new modem to my own "Netgear" router for continued "Cat 5" networking and switchable WiFi on my own router.
Again, I have only been using this modem for about 4 weeks so far. During that time I had to do ONE reboot of the modem and my router because I lost my internet connection for reasons unknown. It may be too early to tell (only 4 weeks) but being an electronic technician, I generally find that if a device like this modem works for 5 minutes, it will then generally work for 5 years or more. I am very satisfied with this modem. It is doing just exactly what I expected it to do and for a fair price (as purchased from "Amazon").
I would recommend this modem.

After some research I decided the best modems a) are not bundled with wifi routers and b) are Motorola. So I got this one, and it works great.
It has 8-band support, as opposed to the 4-band support most of the other ones have, even though those speeds are generally unaffordable at this time, I love a good future proof value proposition.
