The first and most important thing I noticed is how comfortable the seat is. Nimbus unicycles are over twice the price of this one before shipping and the seats are brutally hard. They are leather though, but they are as comfortable as sitting on a rock. The seat on this unicycle is very very cushioned and well sized, giving perfect support and comfort while maintaining controlability. I had no issues with it being too curved like someone else said in the reviews.
Second thing I will attest to is the build quality of the unicycle. Everything feels just as solid as my friend's Nimbus. The construction is almost the same, only difference is his frame meets in a T shape where this is like an upside down U. The welds are very nice and the frame feels rigid and strong. The seat clamp holds everything in place very well and is easy to adjust as needed. The tire it came with is actually (surprisingly) very good quality. It is not just a cheap knockoff piece of rubber slapped on there like many other unicycles in this price range. Mine came with a tire that is perfect for road use while still maintaining grip on hardpack trails. The pedals are fairly cheap but they get the job done and they have not had any issues yet. Only thing I noticed is when my feet get muddy they don't stick well, so maybe some metal pedals are in order.
The rim, wheel, bearings, and cranks of this unicycle are just as well made as the ones on my torker or the nimbus and have had no issues with bending or cracking. That being said, this unicycle is NOT made for tricks, drops, etc. I primarily use this unicycle for cruising around places and it will last forever at that. Do not expect this to handle large drops, stairs, etc. Nothing on the unicycle is designed for that, and honestly if you want to do those things you should not be looking at a 29 inch in the first place. Pick up a 800 dollar Kris Holmes muni.
Summary: This unicycle excells at doing what its designed to do, and that is being a very comfortable and reliable cruiser that is maneuverable, fun, and fast. Treat it right and it will last you forever.
Strengths-
1. Easy to ride and versatile-
This 28”/29” wheel is considered the smallest of the road unicycles. The smaller wheel affords easier free-mounting compared to larger wheels. Perfect for a lot of start and stop scenarios such as rides in or around a city. Steep hills are easier to climb with this smaller wheel. Also it is very quick and agile around obstacles.
2. Light weight single wall rim-
This unicycle is very light compared to those with a double wall rim. Less rotational weight provides speedy response in stop and go situations.
3. Easy to customize and upgrade-
I've added a custom aerobar, a touring saddle, and shorter cranks, to make the unicycle more comfortable and more of a road unicycle.
4. The tire is a very good one-
Very capable on dirt or blacktop roads and very durable. I rode over 3 thousand miles before I needed to replaced it.
Weaknesses-
1. The hub and bearings could be better-
After approximately 1000 miles my bearings locked up. Since it is easy to over-tighten the Main Cap Bearing Housing Assembly hardware on modern unicycles; I may have over-tightened mine. There is no torque specification posted by any maker of unicycles that I am aware of. Most unicyclists that maintain their own unicycles recommend “just beyond finger tight”.
I replaced mine with- Unicycle.com 36H Chromoly Hub $30 and comes with superior bearings.
2. The design is for road use-
If you want to do off road, drops or hops more than six inches, or if you are a heavy rider, you will need a more durable unicycle.
Personal experiences and impressions-
This Sun unicycle has been easy to maintain and great fun to ride! Original frame, rim, spokes, seat post, pedals, and quick release hardware are still in perfect working order.
I've owned four unicycles, this ones is the easiest to ride, most versatile, and affordable. I've grown very fond of this unicycle. 65 miles in one day is my personal best so far. Be prepared to get a lot of attention while riding! People love seeing a beautiful unicycle ridden my a master.
