Suffice it to say that I DO NOT baby these gaiters. They "take a lickin' and keep on kickin'!" That much is for sure. The velcro closure on the front is robust and ample enough not to allow in debris. They have a metal hook to grab a lace so that they do not move around very much. The instep strap is really durable. I do not hesitate to recommend these to friends.
Update:
After almost a year and a half I ordered a second pair of these gaiters for only two reasons. First, they were available for a very attractive price that I thought I might not see again, and second, my first pair was a bit larger than I needed. I am still using the first pair three to five days a week for three to five hours each day. They have withstood rough conditions very well and are still as functional as new. I spray them with permethrin. I can't guarantee that the gaiters and the insecticide have protected me, but the only times I have found ticks on myself this summer have been when not wearing the gaiters.
I used the sizing chart listed on the OR website and these fit my legs like a premium glove. They aren't loose and baggy like cheaper gaitors, they are form-fitting and secure. Before purchasing, I watched a YouTube review by ALindsu describing how the design of these hasn't changed at all in the last 20 years he's had his, only the materials have been upgraded. Now I see why. If you are looking for leg gaitors, these are the ones to get for serious backcountry adventuring and are absolutely worthy of the premium price tag.
Pros:
- Helps waterproof my boots and keep my pants dry in wet conditions.
- Keeps my shoe laces tied! (my laces are always getting snagged and pulled during bushwhacking, or untieing themselves because they suck).
- Helps keep me warm.
- Comfortable.
- KEEPS POISON OAK OFF MY LACES/ BOOTS/ PANTS (Now I don't have to worry about getting poison oak on me every time I touch my shoes or undress after work).
Cons:
- None!
I work with several biologists/contractors/outdoor workers who have used these exact gaiters for many years and love them. They said they've used and abused them over seasons of rugged terrain and they still hold up. After hearing their stories I decided to purchase them and they've changed my outdoor adventures for the better. I'm never going back!!
I would definitely recommend these.

I should mention the sizing is massive though - I’m a big bloke, size 47 boots, 6 foot and weigh in at 95kg - and the xl were far too big for me, hoping the large is quite a big step down in sizing.
