Rat Zapper Ultra Rat Trap
Kills Large Rats with Humane, High-Voltage Shock
Get rid of large-size rats quickly and effectively with the Rat Zapper Ultra Rat Trap. From set-up and use through cleaning and maintenance, each zap will be a snap thanks to the easy-to-use design. This humane rat trap kills rodents using a high-voltage shock. Since rats are able to restart their hearts, the shock is applied for 2 minutes to ensure higher kill rates.
Mess-Free Cleanup
With the Rat Zapper Ultra Rat Trap, cleanup is a breeze. Unlike standard rat traps, you don’t have to touch or look at dead rodents. The rat is contained within the Ultra-sized kill chamber, which hides it from sight, while the indicator light lets you know when it’s time to empty. After a kill, just dump the dead rodent into the trash without having to touch it.
Designed for Indoor Use
Designed for indoor use or anywhere it won’t be exposed to outdoor elements, the Rat Zapper Ultra Rat Trap is perfect for placement in attics, garages, basements and sheds. The trap does not use any poisons or chemicals, but as with any electronic device, it use with caution around children and pets.
Trap Details
- High-voltage shock kills rodent
- Light indicates kill or low battery
- No-touch, no-see cleanup
- Kills one rat per setting
- Kills up to 60 rats per set of batteries
- Requires 4 "D" batteries (not included)
How the Rat Zapper Works
The Rat Zapper Ultra is equipped with smart circuit technology that senses when a rodent enters the trap. Once the rodent is inside, the rat steps on the metal plates, completing the circuit and the trap delivers a continuous shock for 2 minutes. Each time the trap catches a rat, the light on top of the trap flashes red to indicate a kill. For easy, hygienic, no-touch, no-see disposal, simply tip the trap to deposit the dead rodent directly into the trash.

Product Description
The Rat Zapper Ultra Rodent Trap offers you more kills and longer stand by times. This trap is perfect for larger rats (and mice too), ongoing rodent infestations and commercial applications. The kill chamber is larger than the Rat Zapper Classic. Bait with ordinary pet food or another high-protein bait (peanut butter,etc.). Mice and rats enter the chamber and are dispatched with a powerful jolt of electricity. If they'll fit in the chamber, the Rat Zapper will dispatch them. No blood, no gore, no mess and no poisons to endanger your pets or the environment. Flashing kill light tells you when you have a catch; simply tip the Rat Zapper and let the dead rodent slide out. Dimensions: Approximately 4 in x 4.75 in x 11.5 in. Approximately 60 kills with one set of 4 alkaline "D" cell batteries (not included). Easy to use and reusable.

This RODENT ZAPPER is actually a replacement for a previous generations black model. We had that older model for a number of years and it just stopped working. We tried cleaning and replacing batteries and it was just dead. This new spiffy silver model seems to be just as good. We had the unusual circumstance of having an early September mouse and the Zapper took care of the situation.
NOTES
----------------------------
Two things I'll note. The new Zapper uses Ds like the older model we had. The other thing I'll note is that it didn't attract the mouse for a few days though it was loaded with sunflower seeds. Husband speculates that there was a 'new trap' smell that needed to dissipate. I suppose that's possible. I certainly didn't give the Zapper a sniff test. It did take care of the critter in short order.
HUMANE?
----------------------------
I know there are a lot of folks out there who are soft hearted, even when it comes to mice. We are some of you.
You might wonder if this is humane to use. This ==> the Havahart 1020 Live Animal Two-Door Mouse Cage Trap is a totally humane trap that we have used, and still use. It works but requires more work. For one thing there's the whole question of what you are going to do with the mouse/mice. We've actually caught more than one mouse with this trap. What we have done is take the Live Animal trap down the hill and across the creek that lays at the back of our property. We release the mouse there figuring that they won't find their way back to our home. The problem with this is when there is 3 foot of snow on the ground. Thus, the mouse Zapper.
As far as the Mouse Zapper's humanity, I have never seen anything that would lead me to believe that any of the mice suffered or were not killed right away. No signs of injured mice, nor any bodies that were outside of the Zapper. I feel it's quick and much, much better than poisons or tape.
SUMMARY
This is our second Mouse Zapper. We have never had a rat, thank God, and hope never to see one around in the future. This Zapper and the one we had previously works/worked well and we feel it works in a humane fashion.
Recommend.
Fast forward to November 2013. All good things must come to an end. And eventually the original zappers were no longer working. So I 're-ordered' two more. Clearly, just from the illustration when placing the order, they were revised. They were now shiny silver w/a different design. They also went up in price $10.00+ each. That's ok. I wasn't concerned, and I bought two of these.
When the first one arrived, I noticed that the case wasn't as sturdy. Well, all I care about is, "Will it work?", not the cover. Unfortunately, the answer to that question is, "Not very well!"!
Immediately, they were 'fussy'. To get them to work, required sometimes installing and reinstalling the batteries several times, tapping the unit, whatever, until the green light (charged and ready) came on when powered on. And heaven forbid you should need to move one to it's successful spot once you can get the green light to indicate! Then the batteries were being replaced after every few 'zaps'. If there was a lull between rat zapping, the batteries would would just drain away rapidly. There were several instances where one of them would be flashing red (rodent in the trap), but there would be nothing there. Then after a few months, one stopped working entirely. Period! Now, at the end of August, less than a year later, the other has stopped working entirely. Period!
We know how to use these. We do not allow bait to touch the sensors, they are not in an area of the barn that can get wet. We NEVER had such difficulties w/the previous two. Which now we realize were much better made.
Poison is absolutely out of the question! So are snap traps and sticky traps. The theory behind this product, and the quality of the first two traps is remarkable. I've been in the barn when a rat was caught, and it's demise is immediate, no suffering. We have no natural predators that frequent the interior of our barn so we are reliant on these devices living up to their expectations and previous level of quality.
So, I'm stuck! The rats arrive w/my orders of oat/mixed hay. It is already like bailing out a sinking ship w/a teaspoon! I have to order more, regardless of this device's recent decline in quality. I never sent the others back. But I will make the manufacture's/distributor's life miserable w/returns if the next two I order are even half as bad as these last two I did order.
I won't say don't buy, but if you do, save your packaging and be ready to send it back at the first sign of trouble!

After frustrations mentioned above I let the unit sit for a bit then several weeks ago I carefully vacuumed out the unit and set it again. Since then it has offed another six mice over the course of a week. Although it is very effective you only get one mouse/rat per hit so it may take a week or so to wipe out a family. This is the time of year when mice normally move in for the winter so the kill rate should go back up and be steady now for awhile. I have tried rodent proofing the foundation but this is an old house, there is a crawl space and less than perfect stone foundation under that part of the house and they keep getting in. I have stopped feeding the birds (alas) and there are several voracious hunting cats next door but this island has a huge surplus of rodents!

THe zapper has been doing yeoman service in getting ride of invasive mice. As before it will only do one at at time before resetting but it is so efficient and so easy. My son gave me the first one for Christmas -- as he lives 3500 miles away and isn't here to empty and reset a snap trap it is the next best thing.

We caught the rat the first time we set it up but then I read online that a professional exterminator said that if you find one rat you are likely to find 20. I kind of freaked out. We continued to bait the trap with the bait that they obviously preferred - Bran Buds - and placed the trap where we thought it was getting into the kitchen (under the sink) We proceeded to trap one animal that may have been a small rat or a large mouse and the four more smaller mice in quick succession. We had no idea that we had so many unwanted visitors at our house.
I cleaned all the shelves and floors with ammonia (they don't like the smell) to discourage repeat visits to those locations (except under the sink to 'guide' them back to the trap. We checked the exterior of our house to plug any small holes that might provide entry.
I have some comments about the trap instructions:
1) the description online says that you need 4 D cell batteries but the box is misprinted and says 4 AA cells. You need the D cells.
2) Follow the instructions carefully about cleaning with peroxide (and rubber gloves) to make sure your scent is not on the trap
3) use whatever food the rodents seem to like - not necessarily peanut butter. As mentioned earlier, ours liked Bran Buds or banana.
Finally, when disposing of the body double bag it to prevent flies from escaping and put that into your garbage - not recycling. We checked with our local city waste department to get this guidance.
One last point. I learned that since the restaurants are closed because of the pandemic rodents are wandering into residential areas in search of food and shelter. If they choose your home get the Rat Zapper. It's worth it.
UPDATE: I have watched on my trail cam as rats enter the zapper, get a jolt of electricity, and run like heck away. So far this product has killed 6 mice, one unfortunate curious squirrel, and 0 rats, although 3 have been zapped and not killed.
