The stand is fairly heavy and very stable with my speaker on top. It is designed to use with the spikes and provides heavy rubber sleeves for the spikes for my wood floor. The spikes are pretty much mandatory.
The "cons" - the "cable management" consists of a 3/4 or 1" hole on each end of the pipe to route the wire. Adequate for sure, but it would have been much cleaner to have provided a hole in the bottom of the base to route the cable up through the bottom since the base hoovers an inch and a half off the floor with the spikes. They could have easily provided both options. There is not a gasket or detent to help with attaching top and bottom plates, so just lining up by sight is a crapshoot but not too big a deal.
The base is a very thick and heavy glass plate 3/4" thick with solid spike attachment points and good looking spike implants.
At about 12 pounds each, they appear very stable, but I am considering filling the vertical tubes with sand or another inert filler for added stability and sound enhancement.
Overall, I am very pleased with these stands, and can highly recommend them for your bookshelf speakers. Excellent price and manufacturing build. Oh, and my wife, who is more concerned with aesthetics than fidelity, is also impressed with the way they look!
These stands are solid and beautiful and complements my simple entertainment center. The tubes were wide and the bases are made of tempered glass. It feels solid and weighs decently. You can probably fill this with sand or small gravel to add weight to suit your needs. Spikes are provided for carpeting but also includes spike covers for hardwood floor use.
A piece of advice on cable management (see pic). The best time to fish the wires through is during the assembly process, as it makes things a lot easier. [Kudos to a reviewer here on Amazon]. I used two 12AWG cables on each side to bi-amp each speaker with no issues through the holes. Banana plugs came on after.
Application: Used as stands for a pair of Wharfedale Diamond 225s. The speakers are held via a [museum putty] which others have done. Blue Tak is another option. This is a good solution which holds the speakers solidly without the worry of it being knocked off the pedestal when bumped.
I am very pleased with this purchase. Highly recommended!

UPDATE
Transdeco has sent the replacement spikes. I didn't get the confirmation email, but they called to ensure me they were on the way.
Pros: Flawless black finish - attractive (wife even thinks they look great in our living room) - solid with 30 pound speakers sitting on top - priced competitively - easy to set up.
Cons: Shipping was a bit slow - styrofoam packaging was a bit messy to clean up but DID protect stands well in shipment.
Summary: a very nice product that does what they are designed to do well, and look great doing it! Very good value. Definitely would purchase again.
