Review for Logitech G602 - Macro and switches. The good, the bad.
    5 Stars
Review for Logitech G602 - Macro and switches. The good, the bad.
This review is for the Logitech G602. So if you see it on another product report it. Photos are included to help prevent review fraud that is rampant on Amazon. This mouse has a heavy feel and a forward finger click. By that I mean if you don't click towards the front of the mouse then the click feels like it needs more pressure. But only slightly. It is suited for a "palm grip" as opposed to a "claw grip". I am a claw grip user which requires a shorter back. This has a long back. But I'm putting up with that discomfort and trying to retrain for the functionality that this mouse provides at this price point. Otherwise I would have returned it.The Good:Macro use. This mouse DOES allow a left click macro unlike another mouse brand I tried that specifically prevents it at every turn. This one will let you do what you want. I had a previous Logitech G300s that I loved for that until the switches died. (More on that later.)But this is a must for any mouse I buy now. If you have menial tasks in games that require a lot of clicking then save your switches and use the macro. For example, in a game called Vermintide where you do nothing but click for 30 minutes straight to attack, clicking faster doesn't help you. But having the mouse click for you does. In games like this they have a set attack speed. So it doesn't matter how fast you click, you can't abuse it. Holding one of the top buttons down to rapid click for you saves your finger, and your mouse switches. It's up to the game to prevent rapid fire abuse. Not the hardware. Thankfully Logitech gets that unlike some other so called "gaming" brands. The buttons. This is one of the few mice that has extra top click buttons along with thumb click. I typically stayed away from a thumb click button mouse due to the claw grip I use. Which means my thumb would press one of the thumb buttons when I use the mouse in tense situations. (It's a method and habit used for precision aiming in games.)However since I can disable the buttons in the software this is not an issue. In fact, it's proving to be a benefit recently.I've changed the button I usually click with my thumb by accident, into a precision mode toggle. Since I typically only press that hard on it when aiming scopes in games. This is also a wireless mouse and I typically stay away from those. However it's proving to have very high accuracy and lets you choose between polling rates with a top switch that can save the battery or provide higher precision. The Bad:Grime buildup is an issue with any mouse. But with these the buildup can happen around the many button edges and cause issues. You'll have to clean it every other day to prevent this. As shown in the photo, only a few days can collect enough to outline where the buildup is starting. If you game heavy then this becomes even worse. There is also a known double click problem with many Logitech mice that has to do with a bad batch of switches for the left click. Basically they can die quickly despite their million click rating. This happened on my previous G300s in under 3 months and I was using macro for rapid click situations. With other Logitech mice there is a driver issue that causes it. So it's difficult to tell if your switch is bad, or if the driver screwed up again. The only way to figure it out is by reinstalling everything and losing your profiles. From what I read, those who don't customize profiles in the logitech software don't have the issue. It hasn't happened yet with this one. But I'll update the review if it does.Until then, 3 stars for functionality. 2 more stars for the features. It's 2022, about 3 years later, and this mouse is still going strong. Hopefully, that means they fixed the bad switch issues.
