The Fast Flow Valve delivers an extremely high flow rate (50% more than the Standard Valve), self-sealing HyFLO bite valve, large 5/16-inch drink tube, simple one-handed filling, easy cleaning, fast drying, quick access drink tube disconnect, and leak-proof shutoff valve, while the Standard Valve features a 1/4-inch drink tube, easy cleaning, and a low profile design. UPDATE: Initially gave 3 stars due to good product but lackluster customer service for broken part. Heard back from 2 different folks yesterday; both offered some installation tips and replacement part. Customer service a little slow but company did respond satisfactorily.What I like:it's possible to wash inside bladder by hand if you have smaller handsno plastic tastevery easy to fill and emptyProblems:was very hard to remove the shut off valve from main hosesomewhat difficult to get bite valve on shut off tubebiggest headache came when trying to put the bite valve cover (separate purchase) onThe tubing for the bite valve is very pliable so it's pretty hard to get on just by itself. Adding the cover makes it almost impossible since the tube only extends minimally from the back of the cover where you insert it onto the shut off tube. If it's not far enough onto the shut off the top of the cover keeps popping open. In struggling to get it on, I broke the clear plastic tab on the shut off.Sent 3 emails to company explaining problems and asking for assistance, so far they have not even acknowledged any of the emails. Would recommend the Big Zip but with cautions.

I just finished using this reservoir for an entire season and I enjoyed it quite a bit. The quick detach is immensely useful for draining and cleaning. It never leaked as a result of the detach mechanism either. It makes you wonder why more bags don't have this feature.

Pros:
-Never leaked: This bag always held together and I never had any leakage. It's easy to seal and easy to KNOW if you sealed it. I've had a Camelback leak when I thought it was sealed and it wasn't.

-Quick Detach Hose: One of the best features of this reservoir. It served it's purpose well and was used after every ride. It allowed me to drain and clean my reservoir very easily.

-Handle: Another unexpectedly useful feature. It's just nice to have something to grip on to, especially when you're sweaty or the bag is wet.

-Durability: I had accidentally left this near a extremely hot air source (hanging off a shelf above a toaster oven about 200+ degrees Celsius) and the bag showed no issues except at the head seal where the quick release is. It actually tried to seal to the other part of the inside, I was able to get the plastic separated and it still is all functional. I wouldn't recommend trying that, but it was impressive that it didn't melt.

Cons:
-Drying
There was one issue I never sorted out, which is how you air dry this reservoir. It never seems to get all the moisture out of there no matter how long I leave it. This never caused an issue though, no mold or anything grew inside the reservoir or tube so I'm not taking anything away for that.

I love this hydration bag! I originally bought another popular brand but I just couldn’t get past the weird taste. It never seemed to go away after many washings and the twist top leaked a bit after a few uses.
After reading reviews I decided to give the Platypus 3 liter hydration bladder a shot. I bought one for Burning Man 2018 and used it for many trips thereafter. We bought another one for my BF this year and I used mine a second round at this year’s 2019 Burn. They both held up great and I’m confident they will last many more years/burns.
Right out of the package neither of them had that icky plastic flavor. The zipper top made me nervous but I’ve never had a problem and this are easy to use. The attached zipper slider is nice so I won’t lose it or set it “somewhere safe” lol. They are super easy to clean as I can get my hand in there to scrub and can be loaded with ice for those super hot days on playa.
The only thing I can think of that was a little annoying is that if I forget to close the mouthpiece then it will leak all over the place pretty quickly. I flooded my hexayurt one night with about 2 liters of water. We had a pretty good laugh about it though. Operator error so I can’t blame the product. 3 liters is a perfect size for a long day/night out and fit easily into small backpacks.

This is your burn hydro pack. Nuff said.

I’ve owned many bladder systems over the past few decades. Switched over to this style Platypus a few years back as my primary.

They can take a beating. The plastic of all parts but especially the bladder itself can withstand a lot of scrapes, bumps, pokes, drops,

It genuinely doesn’t give a weird taste to the water.

The top opening is great especially when you’re in a situation where you are trying to fill from a shallow stream or such and the slider at top in closing it seals it SOLID. I’ve never had a closed one open despite being a ziplock-seal on an industrial level lol and my previous of this model lived on the Appalachian Trail with me and then across multiple countries. None of it leaked, the hose-attach point, either.

It has good flow speed and tubing length. To include that it’s great for using with a Sawyer in-line filter because you just slice the tubing and attach each end to the filter and you’re good to go.

The ONLY lack ive felt with this specific bladder is that it has a nice handle top but no hook measure built-in for use with backpacks that are built to work with holding bladders. This can be gotten around with a mini carabiner or similar added if you want or it’ll work fine if you’re using a backpack where it’ll be held fine upright by the packing style or laid across the top of your things. So, essentially, it works absolutely fine without and this minor lack can be gotten around by those who want to use it hooked-style, so I didn’t reduce my stars… but it *is* a minor point that could have a minor change made to it to essentially bring it up even higher than it is.

Summary should really be: This is not my first purchase of this product and there is good reason.

This is a great bladder. If you actually use a water bladder often for outdoor activities, you will appreciate this design. It is easy to clean! The more frequently you use this the more of a benefit this becomes. It also seems to be quite tough. It has a simple design that works well. It is also very easy to fill which is another plus the more often you use it. And it seals closed very well. No leaking. And as others have observed, the quality of material of the hose seems to be better than hoses from other brands. It is more pliable and seems to be less susceptible to damage from kinking. Also no strange taste. All around it's excellent. I use it for backpacking with the dedicated water reservoir sleeve in my backpack. I am very happy with it.
