am happy with my purchase. I don't know if it
will last for years but it is a thinner metal.
I only use it 1 or 2 times a week and it washes up
nicely when other food splatters on the teakettle.
Looks great on the stove and love the whistling tea kettle.
Heats up quickly. Great price and works for my needs.
Okies here we go. This is NOT heavy stainless steel. Which I am very happy about. Despite not being a heavy kettle it is well made. I love the fact that it is not heavy to lift when it is full of water. I'm 53 and the joints in my hands are starting to get stiff and sore, especially on rainy days and in the winter. If this kettle was any heavier it would be difficult for me to maneuver around.
I've been using this kettle for a couple of weeks now.
From top to bottom:
This kettle is nice and shiny from top to bottom.
The handle is a hard plastic that stays cool to the touch and doesn't have any sharp edges but is large enough to grasp(easy on my joints). The button on the handle that opens the pour spout is large enough to find and does not take a lot of pressure to push. It seems to be fairly well made and is not flimsy. There is enough room under the handle to fill it from the faucet at my kitchen sink. The top has a nice curve that I can get my fingers under without being pinched. The lid fits firmly but not so tightly that I have to fight to get it off. The bottom diameter matches exactly the eye on my electric stove. It take less time to heat water then my little Proctor and Silex electric kettle.
Here's a little tip. If you're not crazy about the whistling sound flip the little button that opens the spout before you start heating the water and walah no whistling. And but dang does this thing whistle, it whistles loud and well.
This kettle is very very good for the price I paid for it. It doesn't have a fancy name, and it is not fancy itself. It's made to heat water and it does a good job. Others may think differently. But meh, ya can't please all the folks some of the time, and ya can't please some folks all of the time.
I'm terribly pleased with the kettle, in fact I'm a bit smug(LOL), and I'd darned sure buy it again.
I did not get this kettle free for a review. I have nothing to do with the company or the seller. No one paid me to give this review, or asked me for a favorable review. This is my honest opinion after using the product. Maybe I'll get around to making an update later on to give an idea about the longevity of the kettle.
If you look at my review history I have a lot of 5 star reviews. Welllll That's because I research everything before I purchase, so I know exactly what I want, and I have an idea of things that can go wrong. I don't see the need to give less than 5 stars if I'm honestly pleased with the product, because if I wasn't I'd say so. Okay nuff said.
If you are expecting a nice, sturdy, kettle, think again. If you are expecting one that doesn't rust, think again. The metal on this thing is so, so, so thin. Yes, that makes it lightweight. But is that a good thing with a kettle that you are planning to use on a regular basis?
It gets three stars because it remains functional. It heats water. It whistles. Done. But the long-term viability of this product is not good. Why would I say that? Let me explain. I used it. I then cleaned it. I then went back to inspect it a couple of days later. On the (again, thin) underside there were rust marks (admittedly, small) starting to form. Granted, they almost look like they are the start of that deep patina that one remembers from kettles of yore. But, no. That was rust.
Newell Brands owns a hodge-podge of legacy 'names' that it then manufacturers overseas. Yes, it is an American company. Cool. And I have no issue with products being built elsewhere. What I do have an issue with is products that are poorly/cheaply built. Though, again, I give this three stars because, for the price, it is exactly what you would expect: functional, nice-looking, and not designed to last/be used regularly.
My advice? Want better? Spend more. Simple. I will use this until the bottom rusts out and then spend more money on a better product. As such, I will get out of this kettle exactly what I spent. And that is on me.
