Now, I have only used this for a few days, so I can't comment on the longevity (yet), but so far it has been working great! I love having both buttons to 'click' and the haptic scroll wheel. The noise while scrolling doesn't bother me, but it has others. I love that it packs away very small. The feel of it I really like. If anything changes I will make sure to update my review. This is a more expensive mouse to the no-button mouse, but I prefer the actual buttons.
UPDATE 3/14/2018: I've been using it every day since I purchased it. It pairs to the Surface in seconds when I turn on the mouse. The scroll function has been working great. My older mouse I had to turn it off and back on again when the scroll stopped. I haven't needed to do this (yet). I hope I didn't jinx myself, ROFL.
UPDATE 3/6/2018: So far, it has been pairing quickly to the Surface Pro, and the scroll has been working flawlessly. So far, I'm very happy with this purchase. My biggest pro is the size. It's a great feel in the hands when using and it's very compact when not.
Big bummer, as this is my favorite mouse of all time and I prefer Bluetooth compatibility over occupying one of my USB ports all the time.
PREVIOUS REVIEW: Works great on Mac, but you're stuck with the scrolling sound
Got this for my MacBook Air after having used an Arc Touch mouse with dongle for 2+ years. I loved that mouse and it was still in great condition, with some wear on the plastic near my thumb. But I was tired of removing the dongle to put it into my bag, and needed to free up a USB port so that I could run duplicate backups without losing my mouse. This solved both of those problems.
Pros
* Bluetooth spares a USB slot on my compact MacBook Air
* Thin profile and fold-flat design make it easy for design work on the go
* High arc once folded is comfortable for my larger hands
* Materials are durable (my standard Arc Touch is still going strong after 2 years, and this seems to be made from the same stuff) and easy to clean
* Scroll wheel provides button capabilities I didn't get with my earlier Arc Touch
Cons
* Microsoft software does not enable you to turn off the scrolling sound/feedback on a Mac, so you're stuck with it
* As a result, battery life is shorter than it could be... but I'm using rechargeable batteries, so it's still a great solution
PRO:
-very cool design folds flat and turns off in a single motion.
-easy to grip despite small size
-great battery life (takes 2x AAA batteries, but they seem to last forever)
-works well on a variety of surfaces (but works best on a real mousepad, of course)
-haptic feedback on the touch-strip that takes the place of a mousewheel, very easy to interpret and understand.
CON:
-occasionally (more like rarely) disconnects from my Surface Book, for no particular reason. Powered the mouse off and back on generally fixes it, and if not a reboot does, but still, it's an irritation.
-touch strip doesn't have a great way to execute a middle-mouse click (depressing the mousewheel). The intended way is to double-tap the touch strip, but that's a lot slower and sometimes doesn't register. It's probably fine for general uses, but don't expect it to cooperate while gaming.
I bought this to use with a Microsoft Surface Pro 4 and this mouse is a "Surface Edition". It works with the computer's Bluetooth without requiring a dongle that occupies a USB port. That's particular important with this computer since it has only one USB port. When used with a dock and/or an additional USB hub, the dongle isn't a particularly onerous restriction, but for just taking the computer on the go, this mouse is easier. The original Arc Touch mouse required a dongle.
The BlueTrack technology of this mouse helps it operate on virtually any surface. I use it on a wooden table most times, but I’ve even had success using it on a black desk.
The mouse scrolling operation takes some work to get accustomed to all the nuances. The strip in the center responds to touch (haptic feedback).
From the Quick Start Guide:
Slide your finger up or down the touch strip to scroll.
Flick your finger up or down to scroll quickly.
Tap at the top or bottom to page up or page down.
Double-tap in the middle to middle click. (In Windows Internet Explorer, middle-click a link to open the link in a new tab.)
Double-tap and hold equals middle drag. (In Microsoft Word and Excel, middle drag to AutoScroll.)
I have trouble controlling the AutoScroll, but I’m getting better. It is a great way to scroll over large amounts of vertical space. The only problem is it takes some fine control to try to hit a target. I find it easiest to get near where I want to be using the AutoScroll, tap to start and then use the slide for the final positioning.
The only negative I’ve found is that the mouse has no horizontal scroll.
