Once you get the device operating, it is a very reliable performer. It's not the fastest on the market, nor or is it the strongest, but it is quiet for what it does and it can go for hours.
The only reason I didn't give it five stars is that it does not like to start up in colder temperatures. Where I live in the Northeast it's regularly in the 30s and 40s when I am splitting wood and this unit does not like those kinds of temperatures.
And the way that it shows it's displeasure with the temperature is that it pops the breaker into which it is plugged! The strategy that I use to deal with that is when I have a plan to split wood I will bring the unit into a heated space in the house the night before, and then roll it out when I'm ready to use it the next day.
In operation, it is quiet (especially when compared to gas splitters). The movement of the piston will not break any records, either forward or backwards. But I knew all of that from the technical specs before buying the unit, so no surprises there.
And I find that using the unit in a sitting / kneeling position to get to the switch lever can be tough on the back. But that's the price you pay for portability. On the portability front, this can be a tough device to move. I am just shy of 6 feet and rolling the unit (it's heavy!), requires me to hunch a bit, and the legs catch me right in the calf if I take a normal stride.
All in, I am very happy with the unit.

I was concerned about the length of extension cord that can be used with this unit, but I am currently using a 100' 12 ga cord with no problem. With a small gasoline powered generator, this splitter can even be taken to the woods in your pickup and used in the field.
The splitter is low to the ground, and I found that after about an hour, I had significant lower back pain from all the bending over. I solved this (as did my canadian friend) by building a small platform table out of 2x4s and plywood to raise the splitter about 18" off the ground. I also built side tables to keep the split logs from falling to the ground where I had to bend over to pick them up. These additions have made this splitter an even better performer.
I have lots of gum trees on my property and they are nuisances, dropping "gum balls" all over the ground,. I cut them and use them for firewood. They're certainly not ideal for splitting with an axe, but this splitter makes short work of their fibrous, stringy texture. I cut the rounds no longer than about 18" and use a couple of 4x4s to shorten the stroke. The cycle time is about 10 seconds for these logs.
This splitter can be used in a garage...out of the weather. Don't try that with a gasoline powered splitter! I would recommend this splitter for the homeowner who needs a quiet, electric splitter for small logs.

Important:
1. remember to open the hydraulic oil valve.
2. When using in the winter, make sure the machine is warmed up before use. We store ours in the workshop and the freezing temperatures cause it to run slow. After warming up inside, it performs perfectly.
