The first time I used this machine, I used brownie mix and it turned out to be a disaster. The brownies would stick on the non sticking plate even though I rubbed/sprayed cooking spray on it every single time. The second time I used the cake mix box sold in stores and they came out to be perfect! Greasing the plates were not required because they popped right out and in perfect shape! When I poured too much cake batter into the maker, it'd overflow and leave extra cake scraps but it's easy to remove. Some of the balls had "Saturn" rings around it and I kept it that way without trimming the edges because it wasn't too visible and it kind of gave the cake pop a natural lollipop look to it. In the end I coated my cake balls with Wilton Candy Melts which can be purchased in Walmart, Michaels, or Joanns.
Pros:
Easy to use
Easy to clean
Makes the cake pops extremely fast! (3-5 minutes for a batch)
Cons:
Machine gets extremely hot so make sure to touch the handle for open and close access
Overall my experience with this machine was good. I wasn't too happy with this machine at first because my pops failed (with the brownie mix).. but practice makes perfect right? They came out perfect the second time (as shown in my pictures when I used cake mix) so don't be discourage if you fail the first few times because you need to get the hang of it first. It is recommended that you do test the machine to make sure it works properly and test your cake balls before you decide to make cake pops for any occasions.

I think more than 9 would have been hard to pipe in quickly enough, close the lid, cook and unload without some overcooking or undercooking. I thought this batch size was good and it really only took about 20 min to make the whole lot of 3 dozen. Excessive overflow is unlikely and didn’t leak past the edge of the cooker so my counter didn’t suffer.
Cleanup was a quick wipeout. I will say liking the surface with a paper towel was quick, easy and probably helped them pop out quickly.
The cakes turned out yummy and stood up to coating and decorating very well. Kids loved them of course but the adults liked the cake inside so a success for this maker and recipes provided.

As this was our first time, we just ate them as cake balls - no sticks, nothing iced/coated. They were delish!!! So not sure how they would hold up to being dipped in coating. Of course, I used regular boxed mix, so that stuff isn't made to be fully iced. There are a few recipes in the instruction booklet. I may try those later on.
I only gave this a 4 star, because the balls are small (think of a quarter, if it were a ball) and it was extremely time consuming, even "piping" the batter into the holes. 9 balls just isn't much at once. They do cook quickly - 4ish minutes each round. But that means you have to pay attention to them. I did it by myself, which was fine. But next time, I'll have a family member help. I can pipe in the batter - they can pop the balls out when done. Nothing stuck - it all came out clean. Even any spills or over-fills! I didn't have to spray it before use either. Not sure how that'll hold up for future uses.
Overall, I do recommend this, esp for those who don't want to do the "traditional" cake pops (which are way too sweet to me!!!). I think these would be cute for some themed desserts, such as spaghetti and meatballs or similar.
