Pretty good squat rack for the price

Pretty good squat rack for the price
I got this for my home gym during the pandemic. Two years later it has held up during regular use and a cross country move. I am pretty impressed with that. I like that the rack includes small plate racks at the bottom. The pull-up bar is ok- a bit flimsy but gets the job done. The rack moves around a bit if you are really getting into your pull-ups. Overall I feel if you are putting up serious weight or slamming stuff this rack may not be the one for you, but if you are careful and take care of it it’ll last a good while. As time has gone on the J Hooks have gotten pretty beat up (picture 2), so I’ve had to add a bit of duct tape to keep the rubber pad in place. I really should just get replacements for them, but the metal of the hooks seem well constructed so it isn’t much of a safety issue as much as aesthetics.Final verdict- a good rack for the casual home gym.

The rack was easy to assemble. I recommend you use your own tools if you have tools rather than use the tools that come in the box. A drill with the right drill bit and a ratchet and socket or pliers will save you a lot of time. It took my son and I about 20 minutes to build. The squat rack serves our purpose perfectly. We bench and squat within the 250Lb-300Lb range, and it holds up more than well. We did have to anchor it to floor as its frame is hollow and it is pretty light weight. The rack allows you to comfortably bench press in all three positions, decline, incline and flat. The rack is made to be used with a 7ft olympic bar. The pull up bar is sturdy and holds up well. Again, the only drawback I see with this rack is that it is hollow, the metal frames is thin and that makes it a little less sturdy than I would like it. However, I think you could squat and bench into the 300lb- 400lb range comfortably, anything above that you will probably need a sturdier rack. I believe the maximum weight capacity is about 500lb. For our purpose, it was a great buy for the price!

This is a great deal for your home gym. As for some of the videos...if you're maxing out the weight limit for this half cage, you need to spring for a top end full cage. Don't bash a solid built bargain priced half cage. CAP did a solid job . A few notes: You're buying a large metal half cage (at an affordable price). It will collect dings and scratches. Everything doesn't always fit together perfectly. A few of the holes where the metal uprights fit together required a little grinding on my part. It was nothing a drill with a grinding bit couldn't solve in a few minutes (if u don't have one, your friend or maintenance person does). Delivered to my front door, all hardware was in tact and easily assembled, Instructions were simple. Plate holders and bar holders are a big plus for org. All in all, best value that I came across. Happy with purchase, it does the job.

I bought this about 4 months ago and have been using it 3x per week since. It has held up well enough.

One issue is that one of hole sets where the vertical beams comes together don't line up on mine, and so can't be used (not an issue for me since I don't lift in that particular position). Other than that, only cosmetic issues. The J-hook rubber padding is deteriorating, the plastic caps on the ends of the plate holders have popped off, and the plate holders are scratched badly. It looks really beat up, but it does its job.

There's a design flaw with the plate holders where, if the left side is stacked with plates, it will block you from positionining the safety bar in the lowest position (bench press level). You'll have to remove the weights on the left hanger to reposition the safety bar. I eventually bought a separate plate holder.

If you're not sure if you want to dive into lifting, this is a great buy. The real issue is that it has a 300lb max. If you are a heavy squatter, you'll reach this limit before long. If you plan on using it for OHP and bench, it should last you a while.

Overall, I'm happy with this purchase, since I wasn't sure if I was going to lift for long. If you are a dedicated lifter, skip this and go for a higher-end rack right away.

Before purchasing this squat rack, I did EXTENSIVE research on what to buy and what to skip. This was one of the cheaper squat racks but still meeting my needs. The only thing I initially noticed was there’s only one color option but I’m also just being picky.
-
Let’s talk about shipping. The shipping speed was fast and arrived sooner than I thought it would. However, the packaging was absolutely obliterated. The box had old water damage that weakened the integrity of the package. The tape was half off. The seller needs to package this with those white plastic ties that go around the box.
-
After getting the package inside and emptied out, all of the hardware and pieces present and accounted for. Assembly was straight forward. You really have to be lacking brain cells in order to have any difficulty assembling. A lot of other people who have bought this squat rack, complain of the rack “not being sturdy enough”. This rack is pretty sturdy if you put enough effort into making all bolts and nuts super tight. If you need more stability, utilize the anchor points and attach it to the floor.
-
Overall, this is a great purchase and I am thoroughly happy with the rack. Seller could do better at packaging.

Nice 1/2 rack for our garage gym. We needed a base that would be used primarily for squats. We also wanted a second alternative for pullups and toes to bar for my wife. Our current pull up station is above a door, so it takes quite a bit of effort for her to reach.

We assembled the CAP 1/2 rack as instructed, EXCEPT we turned the pull up bar upside down, to make it easier for my wife to reach....it was the perfect height in the adjusted position. All fittings went together smoothly, I only needed a socket wrench to tighten the nuts (started with an adjustable wrench, but switched to a socket to speed up the process). The box was a bit beat up when it arrived at our door, but the unit inside did not have any scratches or dings in it, so packaging did it's job.

We do a lot of pull ups, and the rack was stable for us during the pull up reps. We don't do much kipping type moves with our exercises, we stay pretty strict with our form. We weight 105 lbs and 152 lbs, so with the rack assembled and weighted down with 100# of bumper plates it was fine for us during our exercise movements, really no shifting at all. We did put the unit on top of a 4x8 short pile rug we got from Lowes. The rug has defied the area of our garage for our garage gym for the last couple of years, and it worked out perfectly under the CAP 1/2 rack.

We really like the unit, and look forward to many years of workouts with it.

Really happy with the 6 squat racks I bought.
One problem I'm hoping you can help with:
The spotter arms both turn into place from the left, meaning they can't go on the lowest hole without hitting the stored weights or the weights have to be removed on the left side (as you look at it) do you have any spotter bars that swing into place from the right (the inside of the frame) ?

It does its job well and holds weight without tipping or leaning at all. Feels very sturdy and is simple to assemble. I would absolutely recommend using a socket wrench or pliers for the hex nuts because the included wrench is below garbage.
I've been more consistent with working out ever since I ordered my home gym based around this rack and in a matter of 3 weeks I've lost 4 pounds and gained lots of beginner strength. Well worth the investment over expensive gym memberships.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice sturdy rack, a little wobble.
Reviewed in Canada on May 4, 2020
Nice sturdy half-rack. The uprights are two-piece but are held together with 6 heavy-duty screws so they aren't going anywhere. Nice paint finish and the numbered holes are easy to read. There is a bit of side to side wobble when the loaded bar is at squat height but it's not too bad. Front to back, the rack is very sturdy. Manual indicates the weight max is 500lbs, which is nice. The biggest negative are the j-hooks and safety catchers, they seem a little flimsy and rough but for the moment they are holding out fine.

Overall, a very good product for the price. Next step up in terms of half racks takes you from the 300$ that this costs to 700-800 dollars and in my opinion, if you need something more sturdy than this rack, get a cage instead.

One thing to note, the packaging arrived in really poor shape. No missing or damaged pieces thankfully, which is pretty impressive. Thicker cardboard on the box cap would help a lot. Box weighs about 100 pounds so for some people it would be best to unpack/carry the parts to where you want to set the rack up piecemeal.
