So, It's Not an Air Conditioner—Right?
Correct! Evaporative air coolers don't use heavy compressors or refrigerant gas to lower air temperatures, nor do they spray mist. Instead, they moderately reduce heat through evaporating water vapor into the air. They work most effectively in hot, dry climates. Check out the map: The red and orange regions, with less than 45% relative humidity, are suited for indoor & outdoor evaporative coolers; the yellow regions, between 45%-65% relative humidity, can benefit from outdoor evaporative coolers; the blue, more humid zones are on target for outdoor evaporative cooling or indoor Honeywell Portable Air Conditioners. The cooling effect produced by evaporative air coolers depends on environment conditions and should not be expected to cool as efficiently as air conditioners.
How do Evaporative Air Coolers Work?
Honeywell evaporative air coolers are constructed with three central components: a fan, a pump system to circulate water and a honeycomb-shaped absorbent panel. The fan draws in warm air through the wet honeycomb media; evaporation converts the moisture into water vapor; and then cooler, more humid air flows out on the other side. When using an evaporative air cooler, ventilate. Open a window, or keep a door ajar, to expel over-humidity and allow for circulation of fresh, dry air. Also, be aware that the honeycomb media may have a distinct odor when first used, which will dissipate after a couple hours.

Product Description
The Honeywell 525 CFM indoor/outdoor evaporative air cooler offers an energy efficient cooling option when the air is hot with low humidity, such as desert areas like the southwestern United States (recommended humidity level is 60% or less for maximum efficiency). Honeywell evaporative air coolers do not require power hungry components like compressors. The low power consumption (only 288 watts) translates into significant savings on energy bills compared to using air conditioners. Just unpack, add water/ice, plug it in, and use. Featuring honeycomb cooling media and powerful 525 CFM air flow for optimum cooling while oscillating louvers distribute cool air throughout the area. An LED control panel and full-function remote control include a shut-off timer up to 7.5 hours. For outdoor use it is weather resistant, UV protected and has an air-throw up to 9.3 yards. For indoor use, place near an open door or window in an area up to 320 square feet with adequate cross ventilation. For those living in more humid climates, consider portable air conditioning units or window air conditioners for indoor use.

One of these units will work in a larger room so long as you don’t expect it to go immediately from
90 to 70.
Fan is loud even in the lowest setting but it does cool well.
Takes a good bit to fill up the water tank - a good 2-3 gallons. Running on high the tank will only last about 4 hours. On low closer to 10. Depending a lot on your temps and humidity.
Easy to cart around, easy to fill (with a big pitcher or bucket). The ice tray is useless, the ice melts in about 2 minutes and doesn’t have any effect on temp really — maybe if you filled the entire reservoir with ice.
Entire unit is plastic and lightweight. Doesn’t feel too flimsy though
If you want to use it outdoors only, then I guess it will be okay. But once it's full of water, it has to stay put and you have to yell if you want to talk to anyone. You'll probably be sitting in a nice cool breeze.
