Directions

Properly training your pet to use a ramp is essential for success. Prior to first use, allow your pet to become familiar with the ramp. Train him or her to walk on the ramp flat before using it in an inclined position. Offer treats or a favorite toy to your pet from the opposite end of the ramp. Offer reassurance and give your pet plenty of praise as he or she walks on it. As your pet becomes more comfortable, incline the ramp in small increments and continue training before using with a vehicle or other higher surface. Please contact PetSafe Customer Care at 1-800-845-3274 with any questions or concerns regarding the use of your pet ramp.

Will my dogs like it and use it for the price?

Will my dogs like it and use it for the price?
Price point was an issue, if the dogs wouldn't use it. Knowing my dog's personalities, I knew none of them would like using steps, especially the 10 and 12 year olds, so I opted out to spend more money. I decided to get it because I had a 12-year old 60# standard poodle, besides these little Coton de Tulears, so if one breed didn't like it, I was pretty sure the other one would. The old big dog went right up it immediately upon install; one little Coton male went right up, but the two Coton girls hesitated and had to examine the whole thing for a couple hours first. Go figure. Normally I don't have dogs in the bed, but they are all aging out, and they run up it like little kids, shoving each other out of the way to see "who" will be first. PRO's: very well made; very heavy to move around - once built, it's not collapsable; very sturdy; fits well on the side or foot of a queen size bed. When placed along the side of the bed, the length will actually hook around your rear bed leg for added security and will not shift on the tile floor. However, I did add felt pads to the bottom of each foot which will cause the ramp to shift slightly on tile floors under a big dog's weight, if you don't lock it in place against your bed's leg/foot. The platform on the top is a real pus, because each dog shifts his/her direction 90 degrees before launching onto the bed, or turns and hesitates at the top before going down. They will instinctively fear if it rocks or shifts, so the heavy weight to the ramp is a plus. CON's: The rug is a very thin, slick, polyester, shiny mat. It's hard for dogs of any size to get a grip on the incline or avoid slipping on the decline. They all slipped a bit going up on their first try. Remembering that, they all hesitated going down; slipped and slid part of the way down. Because I have the 4 dogs, and they can be arrogant toward each other and don't want to be outdone, they all adjusted quickly using new muscle groups to go up and down to keep up with each other. If you keep your dog's toe nail cut very short, the pads on their feet will not grip against the thin carpet. Once they slip going up or down, they may not want to try it again, and you will have to coax them each time until they get past this hang-up. In the photos the bed's height is 30 inches; the ramp's platform height is 25.5 inches. Have any of them slipped off the edge? The standard did once and one Coton did, both times in the middle of the night in the beginning, when it's pitch dark and they couldn't see. You want to have them practice running up and down when they CAN see, and they will figure it out when it's pitch dark. Don't help them; they get it figured out on their own, if they want to join you on any furniture; their desire to be close to you will over power their fear of slipping, if you let them figure out the usage on their own. If you help them up after a slip, then they may never use it again on their own. I will eventually replace the carpet with a berber type of mat. You want to make sure the ramp will be the same or less than the height of the bed or they will not jump up on it to go down. They will jump down to the platform to go down...................Terry

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent ramp! But buyer beware…
Reviewed in the United States on April 18, 2022
First of all, this ramp is excellent quality!

The problem is the product/condition that Amazon sent this ramp to me. The ramp was sent from Amazon’s warehouse and arrived in a large, unmarked, flimsy cardboard box that was beat to hell (and way bigger than it needed to be, and the pieces were thrown together in there with no protection whatsoever. So of course, it was damaged and broken. There were no assembly instructions in the box and the screws were thrown in a knock off ziplock bag with no tools.
I bought this ramp NEW mind you. Paid full price for it, and yet it was pretty obvious they had sent me a damaged return that had most definitely been used before being ripped apart and sent back.

I am still giving this item 5 stars because I do believe this is a fault on Amazon’s part, seeing as the order is fulfilled through an Amazon warehouse and not through the actual company, who was wonderful.

I logged in to speak to customer service after receiving the damaged ramp, but Amazon only had an option to talk directly to the seller’s company, so I was sent to the sellers website instead. (Turned out to be a blessing! Amazon customer service has gone downhill)
I chatted with a customer service agent at PetSafe, who was very friendly, and he sent me out a replacement right away. I got a shipping email from fedex the next day and my replacement was delivered in a few days (order placed Friday, got it Monday! It was Easter weekend, so surprisingly fast)
The replacement confirmed to me that Amazon had in fact sent me a returned item instead of a new one because the new one arrived in a branded box, all the pieces were shrink wrapped and protected, there were instructions, and a sealed bag with screws, washers, and little tools were included.

Once I got the replacement, it was easy to put together! All the pieces were included and the ramp in very sturdy. It looks very nice, so it doesn’t feel out of place in my home.
I have 2 small dogs (15 pounds and 12 pounds) and they both took to the ramp pretty quickly and seem to like it. They don’t slip at all going up or down and can get on and off the bed with no trouble now.
In the end I’m incredibly happy with my purchase and would recommend this bed ramp to anyone with pets!
If I’m in the the market for another ramp or something similar I will definitely purchase from PetSafe again (though I will be going through them directly instead of taking the gamble with Amazon)

TL;DR : The ramp is excellent, but maybe buy it from the actual company (PetSafe) instead of Amazon. Then you’ll be sure you are getting what you paid for.

Photo 1: Some of the damaged pieces I received from Amazon and the weird baggie of screws I got.

Photo 2: This is the box my replacement came in (from the company) so if you do order from Amazon make sure it comes in the actual product box so you know it’s new.

Photo 3: The packaging, little tools, and pamphlets that came with my replacement from the company and were NOT included in the beat up package I got from Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Chihuahua loves this ramp!
Reviewed in Canada on June 7, 2019
We have tried all kinds of steps and stairs to allow our Chihuahua to go up and down to our king size bed. Everything we tried did not work because the steep angle of the steps was frightening for him to go down. I finally constructed from empty plastic containers covered with carpet something that allowed me to extend the length and therefore having a decent angle without being too steep for him to climb up and down. However, assembling over 6 boxes every night and taking them down every morning was a chore on top of the fact that he used to wake us up with the noise every time he went up or down. When I found this ramp in Amazon, saw the specifications (70 inches in length) with carpet and made out of sturdy wood, I knew we had found the ideal solution to our problem. This ramp is made very sturdy, high quality, well finished worth every penny. It takes some patience to put it together, since the bolts have to align perfectly to tighten them in place. The only improvement that would be ideal is if the legs would de collapsible or easily removable so as to allow us to put away the ramp easily in a closet. Because of this, the ramp has to stay permanently in place since it is quite cumbersome to move it with the legs attached. So I added wheels! Other than this, it is a fantastic solution for people that have pets that share your bed with you and are too small to jump onto the bed. I will recommend it highly, if you have the room to leave it beside the bed.
