Get to Know the PIONEER TSSWX2502 Sub Woofer
The shallow-mount subwoofer that comes preloaded in the TS-SWX2502 utilizes an oversized cone structure that provides greater cone and gasket surface without changing its standard external dimension. This cone surface allows the subwoofer to produce louder deeper bass by moving more air. It is made of highly rigid cone made of MICA injection-molded resin which creates a rigid and durable cone, giving it the ability to produce accurate bass. The subwoofer includes a dual spider to provide more cone motion control for optimized stiffness stabilizing the excursion of the cone and support the subwoofer's linear movement for accurate bass response.

1) It sounds great. I'm not audiophile, not by a long shot, but , this provides a full, tight, rich bass sound on rock (bass guitar and drums) and classical tracks, and can provide some serious thump on dance, electronic, and rap tracks (if I set it to do so), and I haven't even come close to pushing it in terms of settings. After playing around with the settings on the amp and the stock head unit, the other speakers in the car aren't trying to compensate for the bass anymore, and are able to provide better quality output. It's really awesome.
2) It doesn't take up much room at all. I didn't have room to fit it under a seat, or in the area under the trunk floor where the spare tire is (though I did put the amp there), so I had to put it in the trunk. But it takes up minimal space, looks good and blends in, and because it's downward firing I didn't need to fasten it anywhere and can set things on top of it, no problem. If I ever DID need that incremental trunk space, taking it out would take about 3 seconds. So space isn't an issue at all.
3) It's inexpensive. This, coupled with that Pioneer GM-D8601 amp, costs about $100 less, as a package, than the more compact Alpine powered sub I tried, and way, way outperforms it. It does take up incrementally more room, but not much more, is not an eyesore, and is easily removed if needed.
So long story short, I highly recommend this unit: it performs amazingly well (at least for what I'm looking for, in my small SUV), takes up minimal space, and is an outstanding value for what you pay.
I wanted this sub because even with aftermarket JBL door speakers and a new pioneer head unit, the truck didn't have a very good audio system. Also wanted it because I wanted something to fill in the gaps of the system without drowning everything out. This pioneer fulfills every expectation I had for it. It's plenty loud, and even though I've only had it hooked up for less than a week, I am VERY impressed at it's output. Very clean, tight, deep bass. Still more than satisfactory even at really low frequencies.
I also wanted this particular sub because of the convenience of the feet on the front of the enclosure. I play a guitar, and I have a two-door extended cab toyota tacoma, which already doesn't have much room in the back seat! Currently I have the subwoofer face down, on its front feet right behind the drivers seat, where it fits like a glove and also where it sounds the best in my cab.
Great sub with outstanding output. Well worth the $$ (even though it was a gift lol), will gladly buy another if need be.
The fact that it's cheap and in a shallow enclosure means you won't get a lot of sub-bass out of it. You know that noisy almost subsonic bass you hear in a lot of rap music? I feel like when you get sub-bass in rock, it drowns out the rest of the music. I also don't feel it really serves a purpose. It's lower than the bass guitar, so to me, it just sounds like noise. Yeah, it's cool to feel your chest vibrating, but that's a novelty and the fun of it wears off in about 5 minutes. After that you just have a headache.
What this subwoofer does give you is a lot of upper to midrange bass. Basically, the best way to describe it is the bass guitar and kick drum are really going to come to life. It's insane how much I was missing out with my stock speaker system (Nissan Versa 4-door, standard 4-speaker setup). The kick hits hard, and the bass guitar can be heard and felt.
It won't blow anyone away. It's not a competition setup. Nothing in my car is rattling. I have to keep my bass dial all the way up. All songs are EQ'd differently. Most songs (80%) sound great. The kick hits hard, etc. About 20% are EQ'd with less bass (still sounds great, just not as hard hitting). It's when I listen to these songs that I flirt with the idea of getting a 2nd sub. But if I did, I have a feeling I'd be constantly messing with the level dial. I like that right now I can leave it cranked.
So if you listen to rock and want a more true sound (versus over the top novelty bass), this sub or something in this family will work great. I've had multiple people get in my car and say my sound system sounds amazing. Again, not because the bass blows them away, but because the music sounds the way it's supposed to. I would definitely recommend and would definitely buy again.
Setup: I'm driving it with a Soundstream TN5.950D Tarantula Nano 950w Class D 5 Channel Amplifier. It's on the floor behind my driver seat. I replaced my stock door speakers with cheap(ish) aftermarket speakers. Nothing crazy.

It was great in my tractor, sounded nice, it was very compact and easy to install too. Just Plug and Play! but the 8" just gives a bump... and I was looking for a punch.
I remembered my friend having the old version of this Pioneer sub before it broke. It was slim and punchy. I decided to give it a try for $145. I took his amplifier so I didn't have to spend extra money... and holy. The difference in my tractor now is huge. Before it was just a bump, boomy at times with the MTX Tube. Now it's actual bass.
The amp I'm using is an Alpine MRP-M500 which does 300w @ 4ohms. Perfect.
This Pioneer unit is 300w RMS. I don't think I'm even at the limit yet because of the gain setting.
I did the math. 300w x 4ohms = 1200. Square Root of 1200.
Use a multimeter and probe the speaker output and adjust the gain to the square root answer.
That should give me the correct gain setting... but playing a 50hz test tone... I could turn it up a little bit more before I hear distortion. Of course, distortion happens before you can hear it... however, even so I back it off of audiable distortion, it sounds like this sub could hit those frequencies a bit more than the correct voltage setting of the gain.
HAH you wouldn't believe the best part... The MTX sub fit right behind my tractor seat... However it was like 1" too big and my seat hits it. The pioneer "fits" behind the seat too, but the seat also hits it... so... I fit it beside the seat on the floor and it fits like a glove. I was ecstatic!! No worries of anything damaging it. It's tucked away looks super flush.
All in all, great buy. I might even run 2 subs in series and run a 2ohm load making the amplifier push out it's full 500w...

I fit two of these 10" subs into my 2013 two door Wrangler, WITHOUT losing ANY storage space whatsoever, and without changing the factory head unit. They fit right on the rear fenders beside the rear seat. So my back seat will still be functional, and can be folded down. The amp is an old powerful fan cooled Phoenix Gold ZX500.
My Jeep had the factory premium Alpine speakers, 8" Sub, and factory amplifier. Although I was told by the local shop that I could not use a cheaper Scosche line out converter with bass adjustment knob. - Because the sub is amplified already. Further research on forums said otherwise. - I went for it anyways, and am completely satisfied with the sound quality.
Those of you looking to install a line out converter, *pick one with a bass adjustment controller*. It is amazing to have full control of the bass from the drivers seat, without needing to crawl in the back with a screwdriver to tweak it. The factory wires required to hook the LOC up are all bundled in the back of the wrangler on the passenger side, and can be accessed by pulling the carpet away. The sub wires are the twisted together green and grey ones. There should be 4 wires altogether (dual voice coil factory sub). (This is excluding the 12v, needed to switch the amp on when the loc senses a signal) The blue/pink wire is the steady 12v, going to the plug in. *make sure to ground the Loc where you ground the amp.*
(The pic is prior to me adding a mounting bracket, but shows where it fits best in my 2 door Wrangler.)
If you are looking for a way to add some serious bass to ur vehicle, these 10" subs will surprise and impress you. - Don't wait to buy, just do it!! Even at regular price these are a bargain.
