Now on to the actual review, these subwoofers are amazing for their size and cost. I have never heard a 10in subwoofer capable of doing what this can, and so smoothly (it's better than most 12 inchers on the market). Most subwoofers that I am more used to have peaks and then fall off a cliff starting around 30hz, this goes flat down to 20hz before starting to fall off around 17-18hz. While the original 1000 series may have been replaced by the new 1000pro series, I believe these are a better value since SVS has decided to increase the pricing on their other models by about $200-300. While $500 may sound a bit steep, just buy them, you're essentially getting audiophile bass that you just won't find in the $200-400 range (infact, there are still subwoofer that cost more than this one that aren't as good). If I could say one caveat, I do believe that this subwoofer and the SB1000 could be $100 less given that the old PB12-nsd and SB12-nsd were the same price and lower, and were between these units and the original 2000 series. They sound great with both music and movies and they definitely come alive when the source calls for it without being overpowering. I could run them much hotter than I currently have them but I'd be worried about things falling off the walls or damaging something. I haven't really noticed any port noise coming from them, which is a plus because that can really take you out of what you're trying to watch or listen to (something that plagues lower end subs). The sub is articulate enough to work with most genres of music, but the sealed SB1000 maybe the better option for those that listen to music more than watching movies. I think that these subs are fantastic and would be a great addition to anyone that wants to get into having great sound (just remember to buy atleast two).
I do a mix of movie watching and music listening with my sound system. The first thing I did after hooking the sub up and calibrating it was listen to some music. I tried a few bass-filled songs. They sounded great on this sub! They were nice and clear and filled the room well. Not muddy at all.
After listening to music I decided to run a subwoofer test. This test ran a bunch of frequencies through the sub to test its response. When it started playing it felt like someone was grabbing my head and shaking it. This sub can hit low and hit it hard.
I haven't had much chance to watch any loud action movies with it yet, but I have no doubt it should be able to handle it. I definitely like the sub so far, and will most likely order a second one in time.
EDIT:
I bought a second subwoofer, and it sounds fantastic! It's kinda funny because at one point I updated the firmware in my receiver and it messed up my settings without me realizing it until I tried to watch movie and the sub sounded awful. So in my attempt to determine the problem I turned my subs way up and all the windows in my house shook. These subs are fantastic and definitely worth it.
It will really make you want to buy even higher end sound equipment to keep up with it.
Very solid build, and looks great. I use it as a shelf for some electronic equipment and it’s vibrations are very controlled in the box. It will definitely shake the walls though.
If you love low end sounds then grab this. I couldn’t be happier with my purchase.
First SVS product that I’ve owned and I’m sold on the brand. Eventually want to convert the rest of my speakers over

Die beiden sind zwar noch nicht eingespielt aber ich bin jetzt schon überzeugt und habe meine beiden SAXX Cinesub in Rente geschickt. Kein Vergleich zu diesen…!!!
questions. The speaker came doubly packed for protection; two persons to unpack it are recommended as the thing is quite big and heavy. UK plug was included.
The speaker does not come with cables, which does make sense, as what one needs often depends on the setup. I had two options determined by the size of the speaker: one requiring short cables and an RCA-splitter to duplicate the pre-amp output [or alternatively RCA output from a Bluetooth receiver]; the other one a long cable (7m) and making use of the speaker's internal 80Hz-filters and RCA audio outputs to the main speakers. Both worked fine without much fiddling.
The two options were determined by the possible locations to place the speaker, which is relatively large (it's brother, the SB1000 is smaller and would have allowed for a few more options). I checked dimensions (size and weight) before buying; the speaker appears even bigger than suggested by the size measures. It's now located in a corner of the room, blends in nicely, without attracting much attention.
I watched and checked many product reviews about this speaker and others to finally converge on either the SVS SB1000 or SVS PB1000. the SB1000 seems to score somewhat higher for classical music and is a little smaller, yet providing the same level of quality. I think either would have been great for me.
The speaker goes with a pair of active JBL2328P studio boxes which do have pretty good bass already. JBL had a matching sub-woofer for these, but it's not easily available anymore. The PB1000 was worth the buy. It does significantly and convincingly extend the spectrum into the lowest frequency range at high as well as low volume. I can't put the setup on full volume often as if I do it makes the walls vibrate (of a medium sized room).
Some people report difficult setup procedures. Perhaps I have been lucky, but I can't confirm that (volume at 2o'clock, cut-off 50-80Hz, phase had minor impact). The auto-switching also works well unless at low volumes. It switches on almost immediately, but stays on for longer when the signal is gone. At low volume the speaker sometimes switches off.
Overall, the buy was worth the money.
A few months later: Did I say, I like it? I like it ! It fills the room with phat sound!!
I saw it's down 10% Go, get it as long as you can.
Long story below, but TL;DR: it seems to be more finicky with setup compared to my old sub. If it doesn't sound good, something is wrong. Move it around. Adjust the polarity. Adjust the crossover. Adjust the gain. You'll KNOW once you've got it right.
---
Had some hiccups getting it set up. It powered on but didn't make any sounds or driver movement at first. After an hour or so of troubleshooting, realized that one of the wires connecting the amp to the driver had come loose. I blame the shipper, there was a huge gash in the side of the box as well (no damage to the sub thankfully!) so I think it got bashed around quite a bit during shipping. Took off the amplifier plate and got it reconnected. Gotta say I've never been shoulder deep in a subwoofer before! Finally it was working!
After a few minutes of rejoicing, I felt a sinking feeling of disappointment. The bass felt surprisingly weak compared to my previous subwoofer. It shouldn't have, this is a much better model. It has good reviews. I was quite disappointed. What was wrong here?
Then I switched the polarity. OOOMPH. There she was.
After tinkering with it some more, it still seemed a bit lacking in certain frequencies. After checking various frequencies with a tone generator online, I realized I was getting what seemed to be some bad cancellations with my fronts on certain frequencies near the crossover. I tried changing the crossover, double-checking to make sure everything was set up correctly but I was still getting some weird nulls. With my old sub in the same spot I wasn't having these problems, so I thought this sub would be fine in the same spot.
Eventually moved it to a different spot in the corner on the opposite side of our TV/front speakers. Ended up needing to switch the polarity back after moving it. Found this was a noticeable improvement to the nulls! Phew. I knew this was supposed to be a decent sub for the money and I'd been disappointed. Crisis averted! Or so I thought.
Then after some more testing I noticed I wasn't getting much of anything below 40 Hz. It seemed to drop off rapidly below 40 Hz, I'd guesttimate at least -15 DB. The whole reason I bought this sub was for it's performance in the 20-30 Hz range, my old sub dropped off very quickly after 30-32 Hz. This SVS seemed worse, it couldn't even dig down to 30 Hz, and I was very disappointed. Wondered if I'd got a dud? It sounded great above 40 Hz, but that wasn't what I bought it for. My towers can dig that low, I didn't need it for that.
After reading online, most people seem to run it with the gain around 2 o'clock. That seemed crazy to me, I ran my old sub around 10-10:30 and that was enough. I had the SVS around 11 o'clock and it seemed like plenty in the 40-80Hz range. But I thought what the hell, I'll crank it up and rerun the auto-calibration on my receiver and see what happens. And boy, did that make a difference! There was that kick down around 20 Hz that I was looking for! And to my surprise, it still sounded great in the 40-80 Hz range. I thought it would be way too much with the gain that high, but it was fine.
I think what was happening was a weird interaction between the built-in DSP on the PB-1000, the gain on the sub, and the auto-calibration on my receiver. Once I got the gain set right, everything fell into place. There was the 20-30 Hz performance I was looking for!
If you are looking for something to dig down around 20 Hz, this is a solid subwoofer for the price. I liked my old budget sub, and I'm still using it with a stereo setup in a different room. But the SVS PB-1000 is in a different league. It digs low, and boy does it have some kick. You can really feel it. But at the same time, it's really tight. It's not just for movies, it sounds fantastic for music as well. It's going to sound different than a budget sub, less boomy almost, and it took me a few hours to really appreciate it. But don't confuse that with a lack of quality/performance. It's really tight and flat across it's entire range. That's exactly what a quality sub is supposed to be: flat across it's full range, tight but at the same time powerful, with that kick and rumble you can feel in your chest you need it, but still clean, not muddy or boomy. This is a quality sub for the price.
I've seen some bad reviews here and there, but I think it's probably just problems with setup. It definitely seems to be more finicky than other subs I've used. Just be patient and take the time to get it set up right. You won't be disappointed.
