Out of the box hiking boots that won’t disappoint you on slippery/muddy terrain

Out of the box hiking boots that won’t disappoint you on slippery/muddy terrain
I bought these Salomon hiking boots based on a recent experience we lived while traveling at Central America and doing some hiking trips to volcano and high mountains terrain. It all begun while we took a 4-day hiking trip to some humid forest located nearby the archaeological site of Tikal, Peten, Guatemala. My wife was already carrying her brand new Salomon GTX boots that I’ve bought to her a few weeks ago as her old Columbia’s got tear off and she had great interest to wear Salomon’s based on several reviews and comments from our friends back home. So, I bought for her these Salomon Women’s Ultra Mid 2 GTX ( http://www.amazon.com/review/R3KMN0ERPMW9UB/ref=cm_cr_rdp_perm?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B00KWK3X9S Salomon Women's X Ultra Mid 2 GTX Hiking Shoe, Grey Denim/Deep Blue/Lucite Green, 9 M US ) and begun our journey. So we went to that humid forest to visit certain archaeological sites on which we had to walk for several days in order to get in and get out from the site location. It was already kind of muddy and quite humid as there was a sudden change of weather temperature and cold climate with rain came upon us for about two days. I did notice that my wife boots performed quite well in humid and moody terrain in comparison to the ones I was wearing. I was having quite a difficult time as there were big slippery stones, loose and slippery terrain all around. Our visit to the archaeological site was fabulous and we went back to our hotel and then back home. Considering how she performed while wearing those Salomon Women Ultra Mid 2 GTX boot and considering how was my performance under such weather conditions, that it made me change my mind and ordered a new pair of boots for Men and the same model as the ones I’ve bought for her.I ordered the same size that I usually wear on hiking boots and had no problems with the pair I received from this seller. I have read that other people had trouble with the size (length/width) but mine are just fine. I like the green color, are quite comfortable and seems like those boots will have a good grip at slippery terrain.Anyway, that is my story and the reasons why I will be now a Salomon Boots’ fan. I am also happy that I’ve got this pair of boots at a good price, so double the fun, double the pleasure.I have attached several pictures so you can check in detail what the boots really look like.

I bought these shoes specifically for hiking. I have not had a chance to take them on any long treks, but so far they more than fit the bill. They were extremely comfortable right out of the box and fit very well. The sole is stiff enough for long hikes, but is flexible in the toe and did not need a lot of breaking in. Aesthetically speaking, they are better than most hiking boots. I don't sacrifice practicality for style, but I do think most hiking boots look goofy. It was an added bonus that these are sleek and stylish.

I especially like that they are extremely light weight for a hiking boot. They feel almost like a sneaker, but they still provide the stability and support needed for intense hikes. They are made of breathable mesh, which is nice in hot weather, but the Gore-Tex lining keeps your feet dry and warm when needed. These features combined make them perfect for the type of hiking I do, which is mainly the Adirondacks in New York State. Any avid hiker knows how beneficial it is to have lightweight shoes on long treks. To have that, you often have to trade the stability and protection offered by a boot and go with a trail running sneaker, which don't protect your ankles and aren't usually waterproof. These give you the best of both worlds. Lightweight, waterproof, breathable, all while providing the normal protection of a typical hiking boot.

If you engage in similar hiking environments I would highly recommend this product. I will also add that in my opinion, Salomon makes a higher quality product than other brands.

Update: I had these out this past weekend in 35-40 degree weather. Lots of melting snow, pools of mud and water, etc. So I trudged through it all just to test the shoes. In addition to being very comfortable, my feet stayed warm and and dry. I am very pleased with these. Just have to double knot them or they come untied.

Most comfortable boots I have ever worn. My 5-Star rating is based on several things. I have owned mine for 9-months. 1st I bought mine online using the sizing chart (Makes me nervous) & they fit perfectly. I chose the 13. My size varies from 12 to 13. I could not believe how light there were. Insanely light for a boot! Much lighter than Timberlands. I truly felt there was zero break in period. I read a few poor reviews saying they needed break in time. Not true here. I bought in late September wanting a comfortable boot that breathed that would give me stable footing in mild winter conditions. A friend told me they were water proof..... THEY ARE! I stood in a puddle on a very cold day 30ish.... No leakage. I have a high arch & standard width. This boot gives me all the support & comfort one could expect from paying over $100 for boots... But I feel these boots over delivered on those expectations. I have not had any back issues since owning these. I love the contra grip! If I had to make a complaint which anyone can do... I would have 2. These boots squeak if you stand and rock back and forth. Not noticeable with normal walking. The other is my grip is showing a good amount of wear on my heels. If a tire can go 70,000 miles I would like think the rubber could be improved. I took a pic to show my wear. I have worn these boots everyday... Cold/Hot.... Does not matter. With the right wool socks I have enjoyed healthy, comfortable dry feet in all conditions. I am pretty sure I will only get 1yr out of mine..... But I wear mine every day & I am a guy who buys new tires before they get to a point I feel unsafe.

I can wear 9 or 9.5 in men's shoes. I went a half size up to 9.5 based on other reviews and these fit just right, so I would say they run a quarter to half size small. And with hiking I tend to wear a slightly more cushioned sock so I wanted that slight bit more room anyway. I have broken these in by working out in them in my home gym and wearing around the house doing yardwork and they've gone on one day hike so far. I'll adjust my review if necessary this spring when they go on their first multi day backpacking trip, but so far: they fit like a tennis shoe (which is to say great, and very comfortably and lightweight) and I'm pleased. I bought them based on my cousin's recommendation - he's on pair #2 for backpacking over the years and swears by them. I was skeptical (I'm old school and tend to like beefier, heavier backpacking boots, but now I'm glad I decided to update my views because these really are so much lighter and more breathable) but so far so good. Easy, sturdy lacing system with good ankle support. I also have a pair of Garmont's for day hiking, but they have always rubbed one of my heels on longer hikes so I'm retiring them for these. I also have full leather Asolo backpacking boots, but they're so heavy and solid that they hurt my feet (the steel shank) after a couple days on the trail. No hot spots at all in these right out of the box.

Great boot for hiking and scrambling. Salomon sizes match awkwardly with UK and US sizes. The smallest I could find in Alberta was US 8 - UK 7 1/2. I notice this pair was eventually sourced in Israel!

The ortholite is the best thing to happen to your feet. Extremely comfortable. The goretex looks promising.
Im yet to test it in the field.
Also it doesnt have the auto lacing .. its the conventional lacing..
Nonetheless, happy to own this beauty!!
