— Set Up —
I had this on my desk with my monitors wired and powered on within 10 minutes of opening the box. No directions needed (though the in-box instructions were also very thorough). This product has very few moving parts and none of them are confusing or counter-intuitive to put together.
Another nice touch is that it also comes with a bracket for mounting anywhere on your desk, so you're not just limited to the very edge of whatever surface you're working with. You just drill a ~1/4" hole, drop the mounting screw through, and tighten the base from below.
— Functionality and Quality —
The machining of the individual parts is so exact that tightening the joints isn't to prevent wobble, it's to adjust to your preference of swing resistance. The arms feel very secure as soon as they're slid onto their posts. Their construction is very solid metal, except for the accents (post caps and the under-arm wire guide).
I have mine set up with two 24" Asus VG248QE monitors (12.12lbs each, pretty standard screen weight), and the arms have no trouble with the weight. No sagging, no creaking, no leaning of the post from the vertical axis, and very little effort required to swing or raise the screens. The tension springs in the up/down arm are very well calibrated and don't get weak or tighten up at either extreme (fully raised/lowered). I'm not sure how it would handle excessively heavy screens, but I will attempt to mount my 21lb Apple Cinema display to one of the arms and update this review accordingly.
— Appearance and Design —
This also happens to be my favorite looking of any of the monitor arm brands that I've tried. It's simple, attractive, and doesn't go out of its way to try to visually signal how futuristic or sleek it is or isn't (*cough* Ergotron). The design fits the function without trying to stand out, and that's exactly what I need when it comes to my office.
If you're one of those people who have issues with the "Amazon Basics" logo plaques (3 total, on the arms and base), know that they can be popped off easily with a knife edge (just be careful not to scratch the paint). The arm plaques come off to reveal the same black paint underneath so are virtually unnoticeable when removed, but the base plaque reveals unpainted metal. Honestly, I left mine on after discovering this—AmazonBasics has earned enough happy customer credit with me to warrant the free advertising.
— Overall —
For the money I spent I couldn't have asked for more. Yes, if you are buying your first monitor arm this might seem an expensive, but it is not, and the cheaper alternatives are not worth the drop in quality. This is not the ultra-premium, this is the standard of quality and it is worth every penny. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a monitor arm. And of course, you can't beat Amazon's return policy and 1-year included warranty.
Don't let the 75 page manual scare you - It's in 5 languages-the English version is about 15 pages. This kit is very well built and laid out and easy to assemble. The packaging is excellent and all hardware is in a sealed bag and separated so that it can be easily identified. The configuration of my desk did not allow for use of the clamp system, so I had to modify to the grommet configuration which took about 5 minutes to make the change and was fairly clearly described in the manual. I did not have a grommet hole available in my desk, so I drilled a 3/8" hole for the bolt which worked very nicely and establish an extremely stable platform for the unit. Once I drilled the hole, the base went on quickly and securely. The rest of the unit connects easily and quickly. There are raceways for wiring and zip ties are included to keep the wires in place.
Make sure your monitors have the VESA connection on them as I had to buy an adapter for one of my monitors (also available on Amazon). The VESA connection is simply a flat, square area on the back of the monitor with 4 screw holes at the corners.
Once installed, the unit allowed for many configurations. I have a 24" monitor mounted in landscape view and another in portrait view next to it. You can choose to lock the orientation in place, or leave out the locking screw so that the monitor can be rotated as necessary.
All in all, I'm very happy with the purchase.

All in all, I'm very happy with the purchase.
I deduct 1/2 star for the instructions - there are at least a few typos that caused some confusion (e.g., for adjusting the part that mounts to the desk, some of the measurements are missing decimal points.) Otherwise, the instructions are picture-style, with limited wording and some steps are not as obvious as they could be. Once the steps are understood, it is easy to assemble.
I also deduct 1/2 star for the limited height adjustment. I'd really like another 5 or 6 inches of vertical adjustment.
Ultimately, I'm happy with the product. I have two 27-inch monitors mounted (one landscape, one portrait). They are easy to adjust (except for the limited vertical adjustment) and there is no sagging.
Top reviews from other countries
The instruction booklet could choke a bull, the actual instructions number only a few pages, but come in 20 different languages. The instructions are reasonably clear, if redundant in many parts, but also manage to be ambiguous, such as referring to orientation of some components as "up", where it is not clear at all what "up" means. Visual inspection makes the orientation of the base plate obvious, so the screws fit properly.
I decided to attach the mount using the grommet method, as I have a thick table top and this will provide more stability; also, the table does not have a wide enough edge lip for the clamp. Drilling is my only option, a 3/8 drill bit gets the job done. As the bottom plate that goes on the bolt from under the desk is secured with a wing nut, you can use any plate with a 3/8 hole you have handy, if you think the one provided is too flimsy.
The final assembly was very easy. Just secure the base, put the bottom arms on, secure the top arms to the monitor, and mount everything in place. It would be ideal if the VESA plates were "quick release" style, but this is not too hard, and you only have to do it once. Plus, the thumb screws make it painless.
Positioning the arms is relatively easy, they can be quite stiff, but the tension adjustments let you put everything in place then tighten it up. The cable management is alright. For the top arms, run the cables under and secure with the provided zip ties, the bottom arms have a removable panel on the underside with room for cables. A tensioned squeeze-type release keeps it in place, I don't think it will be falling out on its own. As an easter egg, there are two 2.5mm tension adjustment screws in the back of the base swivel, which are very tightly secured in place and prevent the entire assembly from rotating around. Not a useful feature for most people I imagine.
The whole setup feels very solid, and the visible part on the desk is sleek with only a small Amazon Basics logo in view.
Keep in mind that depending on how big your monitors are and how you need them positioned, you may need space behind the desk, if your desk is right up against the wall, due to how the swivel arms work. Try to "dry run" your setup before drilling holes to see how much space you require (this probably needs two people). You may have to attach the mount further away from the back of the desk. Measure twice, cut once.
Also, if you are mounting two identical monitors at the same height, you don't require lots of positional flexibility, and you're not constantly adjusting the angles, then maybe going for a "pole-style" monitor mount will be a better option, such as the basic Arctic Z1/Z2, which I have for my work laptop. It is simpler, much cheaper, guaranteed to never sag, and probably won't need any, or as much, space behind the desk for the folded arms.
Long term edit (6+ months): The mount is as solid as the day I installed it. The arms aren't sagging one bit, I really tightened the up/down adjustment, but left the horizontal swivel a bit loose. The nut securing the bottom plate did come a bit loose and I had to tighten it, but that's probably because all the stuff I have sitting on my desk that's vibrating away (fans and hard drives). It would not be a bad idea to use a little bit of Threadtite on the bolt thread.
They came well packaged and was mostly easy to assemble, the plastic caps you can use to top off the dual poles on the desk were a bit rough cut and tricky to insert/click into those tubes, but it all worked out in the end.
If the build quality is the same as my old Ergotron, they'll easily last me a decade or so. Can definitely recommend.
