Overall solid product; I have a solution for height extension

Overall solid product; I have a solution for height extension
I've bought 2 of these for home use (we have 2 desks with dual monitor setup) after getting inspired by the monitor arms I got at work. The one I have at work are much larger and more expensive, and it's pain to adjust them, and I am glad I've bought these AmazonBasics arms instead. I have different models of 1920x1200 24" monitors (such as Lenovo L2440p, but I also have some similar Dells and HPs). They're all have about 15 lbs ( +/- 2) weight without a stand.Pros:1. Look and feel very solid all the way. People complain about other models that the arm stand would kill their ikea desk (stand pad is too small) - I don't think it will be a problem here. People complain it wouldn't hold the weight and gradually tilt - I don't have enough data, but these arms look sturdy enough to hold my monitors long term.2. All the practicalities for possible adjusting are covered: you can have your monitor centered at any point (within the reach) and any angle.3. Very easy to build (exceeded my expectations). Simple instructions and quick to follow. I expected to spend 3-4 hours on each pair, and I only spent 1 hour each, plus an extra hour for height hack (I will cover it below).4. Have a cable management solution.Cons:1. The bolts that suppose to limit movement (to prevent accidental adjustments) do very little: they make adjustment slightly harder, but I'd still expect if you hit it with elbow, you'll have to readjust everything. On the good side, adjustment is quick, and it's hard enough so I don't think it will move by its own weight.2. The optional bolt to prevent free planar rotation of the monitor is extremely difficult to screw in, because there is no place to put screw driver vertically, you can only reach at angle. This is terrible, caused me 15 mins of sweating and it's a stupid simple design error, which could've been easily caught at QA. Which makes me worry because it's an indication of a very sloppy QA procedure in the design and manufacture process.3. The arms are short. For two of 24" monitors (both in landscape) I have very little room of flexibility, I have to place the base exactly in the right spot, not an inch sideways, because otherwise I won't be able to extend them as long as I need. If your monitors are larger than 24", think twice before buying this, and measure everything carefully. You should have easy access for either clamp mount or hole mount very close to the monitors and ideally exactly in the middle between them. For 24" I'd say it's good but very tight. For less than 24" you won't have a problem. I guess you also wouldn't have had a problem if one of the 24" is in portrait.4. Cable management is present but it's very poorly designed. The bottom arm's cable management is a tray that will only hold a couple of cables, like power and video cable, but don't think you can fit power, multiple video, sound, USB, and all that s*** at once. There's no room. For the upper arms cable management is even worse. There is no tray, you're supposed to use the cable ties included, and there is no apparent place where to plug them in. It's takes 10 minutes of sweating to do it if you want to do it.5. Height is too short. That's the most important one. They say "the monitor arm's 13-inch (33 cm) height range meets the ergonomic needs of more than 9 out of 10 adults". Think hard whether you are really below 90th percentile. For male in the U.S. I think 90th percentile is about 6 feet, and I am 6'4", which is 99th percentile. I really need a few inches more height otherwise (given I have ergonomic desk and chair height) I am staring above the monitor, instead of the top 1/4 point as ergonomics specialists suggest.I am only knocking off 1 star for height, not 2, because I've found a work-around.The work around cost me $30 ($15 * 2) and an hour of work, but it worked. The workaround is to buy a pair of "SilverStone Technology NUC/Monitor Arm Extension Bracket with VESA Mount Specification (MVA01)" (item B00WJOYG6Y) and use them as shown on the attached picture. You may need extra screws, ideally you'd get a set of slightly shorter screws (but I got away with the standard ones, included with the dual monitor stand), and get prepared to use a lot of force, as those threads are tight. But it worked, and I am totally fine with the result. It added about 5 1/3 inches in height, and because of that I also gained extra flexibility in arms extension (if they don't have to extend so high, I can use extra distance).Update: downgrading from 4 stars to 3 stars after I decided to switch to dual 27" monitors. Not enough monitor arm length for proper flexibility of arranging two monitors. In order to have them side by side at proper angles, I have to push them really deep into the desk, which isn't what I want.Bottom line:*) Out of the box it's useless.*) With extra monitor arm extensions (for height) you can deal with 2 monitors up to 24" each. This way you can position your monitors at the right height, suggested by ergonomics guides (so that your eyes would look at the top 1/4 of the monitor as you sit).*) It's useless for 27 or higher in any case, unless you hate ergonomics or you have a very narrow desk.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well made, Sturdy, and easy to install Dual monitor stand.
Reviewed in the United States on May 31, 2016
I purchased this to free up some desk space on my crowded desktop and I'm very happy I did. Great product, good Price, reasonable installation and great performance make for a very happy customer here.

Don't let the 75 page manual scare you - It's in 5 languages-the English version is about 15 pages. This kit is very well built and laid out and easy to assemble. The packaging is excellent and all hardware is in a sealed bag and separated so that it can be easily identified. The configuration of my desk did not allow for use of the clamp system, so I had to modify to the grommet configuration which took about 5 minutes to make the change and was fairly clearly described in the manual. I did not have a grommet hole available in my desk, so I drilled a 3/8" hole for the bolt which worked very nicely and establish an extremely stable platform for the unit. Once I drilled the hole, the base went on quickly and securely. The rest of the unit connects easily and quickly. There are raceways for wiring and zip ties are included to keep the wires in place.

Make sure your monitors have the VESA connection on them as I had to buy an adapter for one of my monitors (also available on Amazon). The VESA connection is simply a flat, square area on the back of the monitor with 4 screw holes at the corners.

Once installed, the unit allowed for many configurations. I have a 24" monitor mounted in landscape view and another in portrait view next to it. You can choose to lock the orientation in place, or leave out the locking screw so that the monitor can be rotated as necessary.

All in all, I'm very happy with the purchase.
