They don't hold odors or stains. These are my first choice diapers and they get used the most. I also have some prefolds and other charcoal diapers that came with a diaper set I bought. I like these the best out of all of them because they are the thinnest and most absorbent.
It's important to have a good wash routine so that the diapers don't start smelling. I've tried many different routines and what works best for me is washing every other day, no matter how many clean diapers I have left. The longer you keep dirty diapers in the pail, the more they'll smell, and the harder it will be to get rid of the odor. And, for me, it works best to rinse the poop off the diapers right away and hand strain the excess water after rinsing before putting them in the pail. The washer can take away the poop before baby starts solids, but I wouldn't recommend that. I tried doing that at first after reading from many parents who did that and said it's fine, but the odor started building up and they started making my baby's butt red. Rinsing off the poop after diaper changes and washing the diapers properly is what works for me.
As for washing, I do a short pre wash with hot water and two scoops of detergent (I use the Costco Ultra Concentrated because it's super cheap and cleans awesomely), then a regular wash with hot water and one scoop of detergent, and I add about a cup of vinegar once a week during the rinse cycle. Cloth diapers do take a while to dry (longer than regular clothes would take), and its important to make sure they are fully dry. I live in an apartment, so I can't line dry them, but the dryer works well and they don't hold odors after a proper wash.
Overall, I'm very happy with these and I'd definitely order more in the future if I need them.

Overall, I'm very happy with these and I'd definitely order more in the future if I need them.
I have been cloth diapering my infant for eight months now, 7 1/2 months full time. I use pocket diapers of various types, and have tried a variety of inserts in them. These charcoal bamboo inserts are my absolute favorite inserts so far. They clean very well but without staining. They are also very absorbent and perfect for overnight. Because of the gussets, they keep a proper shape to help prevent leaks. The material is also very sturdy and should last a long time. I would not recommend putting the insert right up against a baby's skin, rather in the pocket of the diaper itself.
If you are new to cloth diapering, be sure to test your water to see how hard or soft it is, then make sure you google "fluff love university" and find out how to get a good wash routine so you can get the diapers perfectly clean without any residues or bad smell. I have not yet had to bleach or strip my diapers because I have a good wash routine. If you have hard water, borax or calgon will become your friend.
These inserts can be dried on the line or in the dryer, although the dryer will be much faster. They do not pill up or attract much dust or fuzz, which is very nice. I have found other charcoal inserts for a bit cheaper, but they were also not even close to being as well made or as absorbent as these.
Washing
I went with the method of washing with detergent the first time then washing 4 more times after without detergent. I use Charlie's soap with warm water. Initially I washed using delicate though after a couple weeks I switched to a normal wash with an extra rinse cycle. On a daily basis I wash about 3-7 inserts in warm water with about 1 oz Charlie's soap. I used to let the inserts sit in the soapy water. Now I just do a pre wash which is just a rinse and spin cycle for me and then proceed to do a normal cycle with an extra rinse at the end. The extra rinse is to help remove soap suds.
Cleaning
I remove all poop from the insert and leave it sitting in a bucket until night time. I leave whatever water was absorbed during the removing of the poop to keep it from staining. If needed I do also pre treat with a stain remover like Honest laundry detergent or 7th generation stain remover. Thus far no stains! They also do not smell after washing.
Size
I use mama koala diapers and these fit for the most part. It's very snug. I'm still using the diapers in the smallest setting and I fold it over to fit. This does make the diapers a bit bulky. I don't kind the bulkiness as I don't put pants on my LO. In terms of width the inserts are almost exact with the width of the diaper at the narrowest point.
Absorbency
I do feel these definitely absorb more than the inserts that come with mam koala diapers. I do still try to change every 1-3 hrs to prevent leaks and diaper rash.
