    I bought this for an Amish friend for his farm. The power supply claims to draw 250ma. It's currently drawing almost 2.5A. This is off by a factor of 10. If you're planning on using this in an offgrid type situation, be aware of the extra power draw.

    14+ years ago (OK, approximately +/- a year or so) I purchased an Acurite 5 & 1 weather station. It worked flawlessly through a move, several tropical storms, heavy rain and snow. It did not survive the painters who destroyed the wind cups. Time for a new station.
    There are many choices now for weather stations and I took my time to do some research. For rock solid reliability, ease of use and accuracy, I just could not justify purchasing a different brand. Besides, my mount and remote battery pack fit the new Acurite sensor perfectly.
    Oh, the old monochrome display? It's still working just fine as a secondary display in my ham radio station downstairs.
    I'm very pleased with the new station but not surprised with the quality and value delivered. It's definitely a 5 star purchase (again).

    This weather station is to replace the same one that I purchased over 10 years ago because it was weathered. I bought the same one because I like the features. It’s a great weather station and has all the features I like. I especially like the weather ticker. Buy this one. You’ll like it.

    I substituted the dual solar panel upgrade as a replacement for the single receptor that comes with the unit before installation and it seems to be pretty accurate right out of the box. Easy to set up and the display is easy to read and navigate. Since it is a free standing unit it tends to warm up faster in the morning and cool down faster in the evening than temperature transmitters that are attached to a building or other solid fixed object. The only drawback so far is that the display backlight cannot be turned off or dimmed lower than factory preset. The way it sits it could function as a night light in Carlsbad Caverns. Overall though it seems to work well. No complaints.

    Since I wrote the original review the temperature readout shot up to 158 and stayed there. Contacted AcuRite customer service. Very helpful and friendly. Explained that the probable cause was the use of lithium batteries instead of alkaline and e-mailed instructions on how to perform a "hard reset". Swapped batteries and reset the unit. OK for about two weeks before the batteries fried and the readout dropped to -40 and locked in. Back to Acurite customer service. Again excellent service. Apparently the temperature & humidity board failed. Without hesitation they offered to replace the sensor unit with their top of the line Pro+ model. A couple of days later was back up and running. Seems to be working as it should. Customer service is top of the line. Wish more companies were like that.

    My wife seen one of these at a local B&M store and shown great interest. With her birthday soon approaching, I thought it'd make a great surprise present. So I said I would check it out online. She was surprised when she opened the box. The weather station was easy to set up; well a bit hard trying to find a level post to attach it to. I ended up hooking it to an arbor post as that was the closest to level in the bubble. It was farther away from the base though (about 80'). It wasn't a problem though as they both connected instantly. If in doubt install the batteries first before screwing fast to be sure the signal is there. We have had it for a week now. We both love this weather station. Easy to set up; Fun to watch and monitor; And the price here was great!
