unable to recharge the battery due to incorect chargers sent with the Garmin !
This Garmin arrived on time, packaged well and is beautiful. The problem is I am unable to use it due to low battery. the Car charger that came with the Garmin, does not fit . it is not the same shape as the garmin, perhaps an older model. the charger that plugs into electricity does not work. the message is it is incompatible with the Gramin and shuts off in 15 seconds. Please send me the correct chargers so that I may use it. I just took a long car trip from Houston, Texas to Birmingham Alabama and what a disappointment it was not to be able to use my brand new expensive Garmin ! it s a good thing my companion had an I phone that we had to use instead.

A good choice for those who want a bigger screen...and didn't buy a car that had built in navigation!
In my experience Garmin is a reliable GPS system. The 2789LMT has not disappointed me at all. It updated to the current maps very quickly in comparison to previous experiences with other version of the Garmin. Because of the large screen the unit is heavier so I've decided to attach it to a friction mount rather than to try to attach it to the windshield or to any of the car vents. That works fairly well, if I make sure that I moisten the suction disk prior to attachment. Also, don't leave the unit in the sun...that appears to loosen up the 'seal' and the GPS will fall off the friction mount.
Pros:
Large 7" screen, so far I've not experienced any screen glare or visibility issues
Long, flexible cord car plug in (cord is more of flat shape rather than round) This is important when one has to deal with having the cord draped over or across the dashboard.
Cons:
None that I've noticed, but I've only used it for a few weeks.
I don't consider the learning curve for how to attach the Garmin in the car to be a con, just something that is normal for a portable GPS.

Garmin, this device is perfect.

Why did I need one?
1) Daughter just joined travel ball - so finding distant fields was a hassle and once you are there you have no clue how to get ice or a snack
2) I didn't want to use location services only phone
3) my phone is too small anyways, I am over 50 and use readers.

I have used this device for a week and it works like a charm.

Pro - 7 inch screen is wonderful with nice size text. Screen is very easy to read. Screen is organized in a easy and intelligent format
I would not recommend anything smaller than the 7 inch. I like that it isn't chatty. If you get on the freeway, not beep from it till your exit or next interchange. I really enjoy the street you are on on the bottom and your next direction on the top. I also like the estimated arrival time on the bottom
I am awe by the FourSquare option. It will find any place you want. This is a must have

Cons - I don't really like any of the options on the right side of the screen. None of the option really give you enough info, like "what's head". I think it should have three closest of each item under food, gas and restrooms. I really didn't like that it doesn't come with an AC adapter. It comes dead, so you can't use outside the car. I think this is important, so you can get comfortable with the device before you hit the road.

In conclusion - I wish I would of bought this sooner. I am glad I bought the Garmin. Happy trails.

This is a fantastic unit. But I had a lot of trouble getting it registered and the maps updated after I took it out of the box. I know I'm not the only one. Here's the deal: Do NOT use the mini USB connector for connecting to your computer! (How would you know?) It is for charging ONLY. Garmin, please stick a simple label OVER that port to prevent grief for your customers! The port needed is nearly invisible on the very bottom of the unit. That port is a micro USB. It also explains why Garmin supplies both types of cables. BUT, that label would be ever so helpful. Sigh.

For Garmin: When I clicked on the most immediate Help link it did not cover what is likely the most common problem. The 2nd tier of help, your website, does eventually mention the solution. A user's instinct will be to plug a cable into the most obvious and accessible port; the mini. Surely this thought crossed an engineer's mind at some point. I have lots of cables so making the connection with the mini was no problem--except that it was wrong.

Yes, the product is really nice, and has a very nice screen size that makes it easy to see with a large dashboard. The suction cup is very generous in size, which makes sure that it holds onto the windshield very well. I hadn't had any slippage or failure with the suction cup as of yet. The ball and socket with the suction cup mount is very secure. I don't get any movement whatsoever after setting the position.

This has nothing directly to do with the product itself. But I would like Garmin, Tom Tom, Waze, Google Maps, etc to work on improving: Be smart enough to realize that if the source and destination are the same as previously used, then go ahead and assume the path taken is also desired, and learn from these courses chosen. There's always the option to deviate or to re-route, but it should first assume the path previously taken is preferred unless otherwise specified. Or, after specifying the destination, it should give you an option on-screen if you would like to use the previously taken path. One other thing that I wish it would have in its product: The ability to output sound from its device to a bluetooth audio receiver, to hear the directions over the car's speaker versus through its little built-in speaker. With my cell phone, I can use a navigational app, and have it pair with my car speakers, making it very easy to hear directions... even with the windows down.
