I buy these for protection against insects, and they work well if you keep the inevitable holes that appear patched. But this fabric is really fragile. It usually only lasts a year, and even then you will be out sewing a lot. The holes aren't as important if you use them primarily as a season extender for cold protection. Season extension was an added benefit I didn't at first foresee but am taking advantage of it now.
I have (permanently-installed) PVC hoops on hinges mounted on raised beds with this fabric over the top. Works very well for insect protection.
I have some trees around and the wind inevitably drops branches on them which almost always puncture the fabric. I have bought more, but am trying a heavier fabric this time.
