SMOKE ALARM FEATURES
• Model ADC features a False Alarm Control which, when activated, quiets unwanted alarms for up to 15 minutes.• This smoke alarm is powered by 120V AC and a 9-volt battery back-up source. AC/DC smoke alarms offer added protection in the event of a power failure or a drained battery.
• Unique power connector prevents interconnection with incompatible smoke alarms or security systems.
• This smoke alarm may be interconnected with as many as 11 other Firex model FADC, AD and ADC smoke alarms, or as many as 6 Firex model ADH heat alarms for a total of not more than 18 interconnected devices.
• Optional tamper-resist feature can serve as a safeguard against tampering. • Unique “battery missing” lockout. The smoke alarm will not attach to the mounting bracket if a battery is not in the battery pocket.
• Improperly connected or weak battery signal. The smoke alarm will sound a short beep about once a minute if the battery is weak or improperly connected.
• Separate green and red LEDs indicate that the smoke alarm is receiving AC power, working under normal operation, in alarm, or under false alarm control.
• Loud alarm horn—85 decibels at 10 feet—sounds to alert you to an emergency.
• This alarm incorporates the internationally recognized horn signal for evacuation. During alarm mode, the horn produces three short beeps followed by a 2 second pause and then repeats. This pattern is somewhat different than the previous alarm sound, which continually beeped.
• Test button checks smoke alarm operation. Model ADC also features a False Alarm Control which, when activated, quiets unwanted alarms for up to 15 minutes.

My installation was replacing Smoke only wired detectors in moy home - which were already installed when I purchased my home 15 years ago - and could be as old at 26 years when the house was first built. I had to test the neutral wiring and confirm the four wired detectors were on the same line so they would Pair - this made my install more complicated than some would be. I am very handy and comfortable with testing wiring, etc - but it was not a simple "drop and swap" in my home. Yours may be different if you have the same wiring connectors this model has. If not- you'll need to splice them into the electrical boxes with wire caps if replacing older defunct smoke detectors.
Once installed they have operated great. I had one false alarm from over-zealous cooking (aka - burning a steak) - and all four rang throughout the house when the first-floor kitchen area one was triggered. Now that my wiring is in place a replacement would take less than 5 minutes (longer to get the stepladder than actually doing the swap).
So - if you are REPLACING EXISTING SIMILAR MODELS - this isw a no-brainer to upgrade and get both smoke and CO2 protection. If you have much older smoke detectors - it may take you a while longer to figure out your wiring - or to hire a professional to install properly
Kidde bought Firex and the Kidde alarms have the same dimension as Firex - no having to touch up ceiling paint after changing out the alarms. If you are replacing Firex alarms, you will need a KA-F adapter since the pig tail/wiring harness is different. It is not hard to rewire the ceiling box with the new style pig tail which is supplied, but is easier and safer to use the adapter. First open the new alarm box and write the install month/year on the space provided on the side of the alarm. These come with cheap imported zinc carbon batteries, buy a premium brand of alkaline 9v batteries and install with the month/year marked on the side of the battery with a marking pen. In order to remove the pig tail from the old alarm, use a large flat/slotted screwdriver. Just twist the screwdriver after inserting it under the rounded flange at the wiring connection of the old alarm. Also, install the adapter on the new alarm before climbing on the ladder. I put the flat screwdriver and a phillips screwdriver in the holes on top of my fiberglass ladder. The mounting ring of the new alarm is different than the mounting ring of the old alarm - the mounting ring will probably have two screws holding it to the ceiling. When standing on the ladder, I dropped the old mounting ring and alarm on the carpeted floors (no room on the top of the ladder for two alarms and no assistant helping) and installed the new alarm. By doing the advance work, there was only one ladder trip per alarm. This is an easy DIY project and will save lots of $$ versus calling an electrical contractor.
