Product Description
The I Fetch dog ball launcher lets dogs play fetch to their heart’s content! Once your dog places the miniature tennis ball into the top of the I Fetch Tennis ball machine, This interactive dog toy throws it up to 30-ft. Away. Adjust the launch distance with a touch of a button, and let the fun begin. Works with the included power cord or 6 C batteries.
From the Manufacturer
Love at first launch.
Change the launch distance to 10, 20 and 30 feet with the touch of a button. It’s that easy! Ball-obsessed dogs can't get enough of this fun device. (Note: some of our customers actually have to hide the iFetch when dogs need a break!) The top of the iFetch (where your dog drops the ball) is tilted to encourage your dog to stand behind the fetch machine when the ball launches, for safety purposes. So, supervise and train your dog to wait behind (or beside) it while the machine revs up and the ball launches. We love the joy it brings to dogs and their humans. Just plug it in and launch the fun!
Best-in-show award winner!iFetch has won praise from major news outlets across the US: New York Times, Fox News, Tech Crunch, Buzz Feed, the Today Show, and many others. iFetch won the coveted “Best in Show” award at SuperZoo, the pet industry’s largest trade show, and “First Place” at the Global Pet Expo’s New Product Showcase. The best praise for us, though, is seeing dogs enjoy it. If your dog loves fetch, they will love the iFetch.
Step 1: DROPTrain your dog to “drop!” the iFetch mini tennis ball into the iFetch. We recommend using another ball (showing another pretty blue ball will make them drop the one they have) or using treats (yum) for motivation.
Step 2: FETCHEncourage your dog to “fetch!” once the ball flies out of the front of the iFetch. You may need to launch a few balls from the iFetch at first, showing your dog that his new toy actually throws the ball – it doesn’t eat it.
Step 3: REPEATNow, coax your dog to “bring!” the ball back to the iFetch for more fetching fun. Again, try using another iFetch ball or treat to get them back behind the iFetch again and ready to drop. And don’t forget - lots of praise and hugs!
A family company on a mission to create better dog toys.We started the company with a grandfather / grandson tinkering project in the garage, followed by a successful Kickstarter campaign, and now almost four years of experience under our belts. There are a lot of dog toys on the market, but we strive for new and different. All of our products require some level of training to be able to play with the toys independently, which we think creates a wonderful bonding opportunity for owners and their pets. Even if your dog never "gets" the idea of dropping the ball into the top of the toy, you can still play and interact with them through the toy. These shared experiences are special. We like to think our toys are special too.
About the StartupDescribe your product in 3 words.
Healthy, fetching fun.
How did you come up with the idea for this product?
Our dog, Prancer, is a relentless fetcher. When Grant couldn’t do his homework because of Prancer’s insatiable love of fetch, we knew we had to do something. And the iFetch automatic ball launcher was born.
What makes your product special?
We think our iFetch automatic ball launcher is an engineering work of art. The initial prototypes used bits of HotWheels tracks, so, wow, have we come a long way since then! We designed the launcher to only launch one ball at a time on purpose. The mental energy it takes for a dog to understand where and how to drop the ball, so that it is automatically thrown for him, is pretty amazing. And mental stimulation is so important for a dog's well-being. "Use it or lose it" applies to dogs as well as humans.
What has been the best part of your startup experience?
The best part of our startup experience is seeing the videos owners post of their pets using the iFetch. Watching dogs get so excited waiting for the ball to launch makes all of the hard work worthwhile. It is truly a family affair at iFetch. Denny, though supposedly “retired”, is the CEO and patriarch of the company. His daughter, Debbie left her medical practice, to help run the company. And Grant, the idea originator, has returned as our Sales VP to “launch” his career with us (pun intended). It's been a wonderful journey.

Shipping was fast and it comes nicely packed. I ordered batteries that arrived with it. I already had a few packages of the Kong extra-small squeak balls that also work in the machine, also available on Amazon Prime for $2.99 a pack.
The iFetch runs on either 6 C batteries, or it comes with an adapter that can be plugged into the wall. The batteries lasted a couple weeks that included a solid 1-2 hours of play each day. The electric cord works great and fits the plug well. This is where one of my two complaints come in, and that is the cord is four or five feet long which would seem generous, but I have found it difficult to find a place to plug it in and have it sit in the middle of the floor as is necessary in both my house and two friends homes. We had to use an extension cord, but it’s not a major issue.
Since we have only played with this in a small apartment we only use the lowest setting which shoots it about ten feet. The machine is a little more powerful when running on electricity, so keep that in mind when choosing a setting. Sometimes Archie likes to stand in front of it and try and catch it (bless his heart, he never does) and it has hit him in the chest, nose, head, and has never caused more than a shake of the head and a sneeze when it hit him directly on the nose. Each next higher setting shoots it about another ten feet, which increases the force the ball comes out with.
My only other issue, which really isn't a product problem, is Archie usually drops the ball into the toy from a few inches above it. Because of the bowl design, the ball will frequently swirl around the edge and pop out. A deeper design wouldn't allow that to happen.
I highly recommend this toy for those little dawgies that love to fetch. It’s easy to train, but you have to know your dog and what it will like as well as how it needs to be trained to use it. To see video of Archie learning how to play with the iFetch

To answer some of the critics whose poor ratings made me hesitate to purchase the product.:
Too noisy: My dog wasn’t in the least bit phased by the noise, and now the increasing pitch and click of the ball release indicates to him that the ball is about to be launched. I don’t think it’s noisy at all. I’ve posted a video, so you can check it out yourself.
Ball shoots out too hard: I’d say it depends on the setting. I would recommend that you make sure your dog isn’t struck by the ball until he/she has been fully trained and understands getting hit with the ball isn’t part of the game. Then, if she does happen to be struck by a ball and it hurts, she will quickly learn to stay out of the way.
Balls get stuck in the machine: The tennis ball type covering can get a bit frayed after a lot of play. I just grab a scissors and trim off around the balls and we’re good to go for a few more hours of play. Archie doesn’t drool a lot so the balls don’t get that wet.
Balls are too small: This product was designed for small dogs and even so, a large dog is not going to choke on the balls. Dogs are not like toddlers and although they might eat a ball, they won’t choke on it. My toy poodle likes to play with marbles and grapes…..has never choked. However, it looks like there is now a toy for large dogs called the iFetch Too.
Unfortunately, when he does get tired, he quickly chews and destroys the balls. After much trial and error, I have found that the balls "Colorful Squeaky Tennis Balls for Small Dogs and Puppies - 1.5 Inch - 6 Pack - Dog Training Toys for Positive Reinforcement, Interactive Squeaker Balls To Engage Attention Outside, Ball Launcher Fetch" are the best for him. Since they are already squeaky, they don't lose shape as quickly as others and still work well in the machine.
I wish there was an in-between size for dogs like mine who prefer the 2-inch ball.
I was concerned after reading the reviews (and seeing photos) where dogs had been injured while using this toy. You have to supervise your dog when he/she is learning how to use the toy - Ella was very interested in looking into where the balls shoot out of when we started. I trained her to not do so by saying "get ready" - and she would then start running prior to the ball being shot out in order to avoid injury. She loves the toy! I did buy some little yellow kong balls (as suggested by other reviewers) to use with it as the little blue ones sold by this company are a bit pricy for tiny tennis balls. They work absolutely fine with the toy. I have about 12 balls that I rotate while playing with her - maybe that's why I've not had any issue with the balls getting stuck after being drooled on (also, she drops them pretty quickly and isn't a big drooler.
I'd recommend the toy. Just make sure to supervise when initially using in order to avoid injuries! The balls do shoot out with some force so you don't want your dog looking right into it. Even with supervision, Ella has been hit a few times with a ball but has not been injured (and it didn't seem to really phase her at all - and as I've already said, she's a bit of a "scaredy cat" at times).
Top reviews from other countries
Day 2: I totaly ignored her whenever she gave me the ball to put in the machine, so she figured out that she had to do it herself. So now, she has learned to play with it by herself. (Now she doesn't keep bothering us to go downstairs with her to play after a long day at work!) She destroyed two of the blue balls by ripping off all the fuzz and gutting them, so I bought the XS Kong squeaker tennis ball 3-pack at the petshop, as someone mentioned in another review. I'm expecting the Kong products to last a lot longer. (And it's fun to have the squeak!)
She slobbered a lot the first day, so put a paper towel underneath it. Now I know not to let her play too long with it, so the balls don't get so wet.
One week later: Our dog is still completely obsessed by this toy. The Kong balls work ok, but get stuck often once the fuzz gets loosened. I bought squash balls, which she absolutely loves for the bounce and probably texture and durability, but they get REALLY slobbery, so after two or three times, they get stuck unless I wipe them off in a paper towel before putting them in there (which sort of defeats the purpose of independent play). She goes into a barking fit when the balls get jammed, but she doesn't like to play with the remaining blue iFetch ball which never gets jammed. Sigh. I'm still happy with this purchase...I just wish the balls were more durable and less fuzzy.
She seems to have lost all interest in her other toys and balls.
Best investment ever!
I registered it in Canada and after a month or so, it broke and the company was really good about sending a replacement right away. As long as your dog doesn't overdo it and you clean the gunk every so often, it lasts.
