I love this fridge I am currently using it as a Refrigerator since I already have a stand up freezer. It has soooo much space. The only bad review people seam to have on it is the tight seal that makes it hard for kids and some ladies to open the door. I like the fact that it seals so good. I figured out all you have to do is put your fingers on the seal and pull it back softly just enough to lightly break the seal and the door opens real easy. Once I showed my wife and kids how to do it there's no more complaints.

I have very mixed feelings about this freezer unit.

The good: I'm a professor of electrical engineering, and not much into aesthetics, but this is really a beautiful freezer, inside and out. 20.5 ft^3 of space is a lot of room and lets my family cook many meals in advance and store them ready for particularly busy weeks. The outside does not get noticeably warm even during defrost cycles. It has a large LED display showing the desired set temperature.

The bad: The LED should, in my opinion, show the actual temperature, not the desired set temperature. I want to know what the fridge is actually doing; I already know what I'd like it to do! So you still need to purchase a separate thermometer for the inside of the fridge.

But the biggest problem is how it handles power brownouts. If the freezer experiences a power blackout, it will reset as expected and continue to cool once the power is restored. But if your area experiences a brownout (for instance, a momentary drop in voltage by about 20%,(as commonly occurs just before or after a blackout), the electronics do not reset; instead the control board displays an error condition and locks up, allowing the food to spoil. It is easy to manually reset by unplugging/plugging the freezer, but easy to miss if the freezer is in the basement and you were at work or sleeping during the brownout. Thinking I just had a bad control board I replaced it, but it has the same problem. It's easy to duplicate if you have a VARIAC to simulate a brownout, but you cannot duplicate it by plugging/unplugging because it is only triggered by significantly reduced voltage levels, not outages. This is the kind of poor design that should have been caught during quality control testing, and is reflected in complaints other owners have posted in online forums.

You can fix this in one of several ways. The simplest is to buy a remote freezer temperature monitor/alarm. That's not ideal since it requires monitoring, but better than not monitoring it. A timer that automatically cycles the freezer off for a few seconds and then on every 6 hours or so would also work, but would not be good for the long-term health of the compressor. A better way is to build a device that automatically cycles the power to the freezer a few minutes after power is restored following any power disturbance. If you are electrically-inclined I'll send you the schematics, PCB files, and code for mine. Frigidaire: we shouldn't have to engineer things like this for a 1k freezer - just spend the $0.75 to add a capacitor and a power-management IC to your control board and eliminate the problem.

No problems or damage caused by shipping. Box was removed by carrier for inspection and placed where I asked them to put it. I did the rest of the installation without any problems. It was 90+ degrees in our garage where this unit will live and it cooled down very quickly. Build quality seems outstanding from the stainless skin to the glass shelves. Can't believe how much this box holds. Emptied our current garage refrigerator into it and it hardly made a dent. Only reason for 4 stars is the plastic door on the egg shelf keeps falling open when the door is opened. Time will tell about reliability - but for now, we love it and highly recommend to those needing a large refrigerator.

I bought this refrigerator because it locks and I didn't need the freezer space. I would think a refrigerator would last more than three years, but nope! Dead. Stuck on "demo" mode....motor won't run. Part is backordered for at least a month and if part doesn't fix it, I can't return the part according to the manufacturer. Would never buy again. Pretty ridiculous major appliances are NOT built to last these days.

I love this refrigerator. I actually purchased 2 of these because you have control over the inner temperature. I have them in the garage for extra storage. I use one for refrigeration (38*) and one as a freezer (-5*). They are spacious and organized well on the inside with removable/changeable shelves and baskets.
