Product Description
IMPORTANT: For Wide Or Swollen Feet We Recommend That You Purchase a Size Larger To Ensure Optimal Fit
MARS Wellness Plantar Fasciitis Night Splint is primarily intended for treating Plantar Fasciitis and Achilles Tendonitis, and may be ideal for other conditions recommended by a physician. The purpose of this lightweight plantar fasciitis night brace is to keep the patient's ankle in a neutral position overnight, passively stretching the calf and plantar fascia during sleep. This gentle stretch helps reduce the muscle contracture, inflammation, and associated pain. The lightweight, low profile shell is sturdy and breathable and has three padded straps with buckles to ensure immobilization. In addition, the padding features a washable Lycra covering that is cool against the skin for maximum comfort.
Recommended Best Practices
It will be best to start wearing the night splint for a short period of time, perhaps only 1 hour the first night, then extending it gradually each night and week.
Most splints are also adjustable, so you can alter the tension to suit. It may be that you need to start with it looser and make it tighter over time. The ideal target will be to wear it overnight or for around 4 to 5 hours at a time. This is the perfect time period for the plantar fascia tissue to extend and begin to heal!
Our uniquely designed night splint includes buckles on both sides of the splint eliminating the need to reach over and struggle to buckle the splint.
IMPORTANT FITTING INSTRUCTIONS
If you find your foot or heel moving around in the splint, tighten each strap until the splint feels snug-this will help keep your foot in place.
Donning Tips
- Place the splint on the floor,
- Step into the splint with heel as far back as possible
- Close and adjust the clasps while the splint is on the floor.
- Clasping and unclasping can take a couple of times of donning the brace to get used to

Common Causes of Plantar FasciitisPlantar fasciitis is caused by straining the ligament that supports your arch. Repeated strain can cause tiny tears in the ligament which can lead to pain and swelling. This is more likely to happen if:

About Plantar FasciitisPlantar fasciitis is the most common cause of heel pain. The plantar fascia is the flat band of tissue (ligament) that connects your heel bone to your toes. It supports the arch of your foot. If you strain your plantar fascia, it gets weak, swollen, and irritated (inflamed). Then your heel or the bottom of your foot hurts when you stand or walk. Plantar fasciitis is common in middle-aged people. It also occurs in younger people who are on their feet a lot, like athletes or soldiers. It can happen in one foot or both feet. |
So how can the splint help my plantar fasciitis? When wearing the splint, the foot is held in a certain position, called “dorsiflexion“. This means that the fascia is stretched, not allowing it to contract and become tighter overnight. The great thing about a night splint, is that the remedy is quite gentle and the fascia will be returned to it’s proper length over a period of time. Once stretched out, the plantar fascia will become less tense and therefore will cause less pain. |
TRULY UNIVERSALNow designed with buckles on both sides of the splint, this allows you to wear it on either foot without having to worry about trying to find which side it opens and closes from. |

Plantar Fasciitis Posterior Night Splint (MARS Wellness) -- much better than an earlier one I had tried from Futuro. This looks big and bulky but actually is more comfortable at night. The futuro also made parts of my foot go numb.
Beurer Foot Massager With Built in Heat Function, Shiatsu like Features -- use this 45 mins a day at night with heat. I use it lightly at first until the foot warms up (5-10 mins) then apply pressure to the heel area. PT explained there are ligaments and fibers that need to be disrupted/torn up a bit in the heel. This works wonders for that. It is a bit painful at first but the heel gets numb as you gently increase the pressure down on the heel.. I hope to not need to do this forever, so far about 1 week, and it seems to be helping a lot.
Sof Sole Arch Full Length Comfort High Arch Shoe Insole for Men and Women -- I also tried and like SuperFeet orange and yellow. These to me are better as the heel is cushioned. I use these now in all my shoes and footwear. They help but the are not a cure. Hopefully once I am back to 100% these will help stave off future flare ups.
Fish oil supplement -- 1 per day. This is an anti-inflammatory without the long term problems of using an NSAID daily.
Penetrex Pain Relief Therapy -- not sure it does anything but am continuing to try this. If nothing else it feels good to apply 2 or 3 times a day.
TheraBand Foot Roller -- PT recommended this but I did not find it helpful. It does not allow enough pressure on the heel to disrupt whatever is going on there that needs to change. I replaced use of this with the Beurer Foot Massager which for me works much better.
I hope this helps someone else with these issues. I am hoping this regimen will fully cure the problem in another 2-3 weeks.
This brace is very light and has padding in the right places so that in this hot summer weather, I could even wear it without socks.
I wore this after a bad arthritis pain day with lots of foot and heel pain when I had done extra walking. I do wear orthotics but they don't do everything.
Walking in the brace feels weird if you have to get up to go to the bathroom, and my heels were sore. If there is anything I would improve upon it would be to add some extra cushion to the heel area.
All the straps including the one to increase tension on the foot are adjustable. I wear a Women's size 8.5 EE, and this was a tiny bit narrow, but there was about an inch of extra boot extending from my toes. I was afraid the small would be too small.
The velcro on the straps is VERY LONG so it can accommodate many people larger than me and I have big calves and ankles.
It was more comfortable than I thought it would be for bed. But just because it was a brace that made my foot still and at a right angle, it was a bit uncomfortable, and that would be just a fact of wearing a brace to bed. Because it was very light and secure I slept just fine, though by morning I was really wanting to take it off.
The great thing about the design is that the fasteners on the straps are VERY quick and easy to remove. Click-click-click and I am out of that brace! They are very secure but easy to remove when you want them to be.
I am SO SURPRISED! my right foot normally after I went to bed with all that pain would normally be super hard to even put weight on in the morning. NOT THIS TIME! I woke up and could walk right away, with almost no pain and NO STIFFNESS!
It even felt better than my "good" left leg and foot! WHAT?? After only ONE night? I think I need to buy another one for my left leg now. I am so grateful.
So here's my saga and how I got here to this happy place: I have suffered with Plantar Fasciitis for about 8 months, and I was getting very frustrated that it wasn't responding to stretching, icing, or rest. I didn't want to have medical intervention (cortisone shots, for example), but my foot hurt constantly and it was clear that my low-tech approaches weren't working. I asked a friend about acupuncture, having read a glowing account from an acquaintance on Facebook, and her comment was that whatever I opted to do by way of treatment, a night splint was critical. So I ordered this one, based on good reviews and reasonable pricing. I figured there was little risk, and it just might help. I have worn it nightly for just over a week and the improvement has been immediate and remarkable. My foot has felt NORMAL each morning when I step on it for the first time; considering it has felt "bruised" for the past 8 months, that is a profound change. And now, through the day, my foot is mostly pain-free; again, this is a change. I have lived with nearly constant heel pain most of this year. I even dared to go running last week, and I suffered no ill-effects. I am beyond excited. And I am so grateful for the recommendation to order a splint and for MARS for offering such an affordable, practical, successful solution to my foot woes.
