I was really nervous about using a leather puncher for my first time because my goal was to add a hole on the strap of my new Gucci bag. The strap was too long for my petite frame and I needed to add a hole to make the shoulder drop shorter. I practiced on three old belts that I had from a long time ago before trying it on my Gucci strap. The first few punches on my old belts didn't come out as clean and I wondered if it was because the material were faux leather or that the belts were just really dated - they were soft and a bit mushy. After several more punches on the old belts I was eventually able to get clean cuts in different sizes. The punch wheel was hard to turn and I had to use lot of force each time adjusting the spokes. The wheel only goes one direction so you will need to push the wheel in the direction that is going away from you. My fingers were hurting after turning the wheel twice so I had to give them a rest before adjusting the wheel again.
I've included two photos (front and back) of my Gucci bag strap. The strap is about 1/8 inches thick with glazed coating on both sides. The left hole is the original manufacture hole and the right hole is the new hole that I made with the puncher. I reached out to Skills Crafter prior to using puncher and they responded to me very promptly. The customer rep recommended that I put a thin card on the bottom for a clean cut so I followed the advice and the hole came out flawless. In the midst of punching the strap, the clasp for some reason got in between the handles so it prevented me from pressing the puncher all the way down. I freaked out for a split second because I thought I had ruined my bag because the leather strap was probably too hard then I quickly realized that the clasp was unexpectedly positioned horizontally (I was probably too nervous to even realize it at that time) so no matter how hard I squeezed the handles together the puncher would not go all the way down. If the puncher made it all the way through you will hear a faint click sound. Luckily the hole turned out fine even after the
hysterical and embarrassing moment of that 15 seconds of my life. Everything was okay and life goes on.

I contacted Skilled Crafter and I swear to high heaven, I've never received such quick and great attention, and courtesy! Within a few hours they had sent a replacement punch, and I had it by the next day! And guess what, it works just as described in their listing! I've punched holes I didn't even need, just because I could. I took one belt and punched a new hole between every existing hole, and it not only added a bit of a design element, but it allows me to actually buckle it where I need it instead of having to wear it too tight (or too loose, which totally defeats the purpose of a belt, right?)
I've used it on lightweight deer hide as well as the leather belt that was 2.25mm thick. The punch works beautifully! I have small hands with not an overwhelming amount of strength, but I'm able to use it with very little effort. Well constructed, easy to use, and great customer service.... I have to recommend this Skilled Crafter tool. I plan to use it in a new venture I'm starting, and it will be used a lot. I expect it to hold up very well, but if anything changes, I'll update this post.
I'd like to thank Ella, the lady at Skilled Crafter who went above and beyond to make sure she had a happy customer! Thank you!
In the box and construction: in my picture you can see the tool, a free little tool that is horrifically sharp, a screw driver, and 3 replacement punch plates. The punch tool feels extremely sturdy and feels well put together. It also has a clip to hold the handles together for storage. (Also you have to offset the punch from the plate to close the handles. May seem obvious to some but thought to mention it.)
Use: I have tiny girl hands. For reference, I struggle to open Talenti gelato containers. But this tool? It made punching holes in leather an absolute breeze! I was pretty amazed. You don’t have to push very hard and you can tell when you’ve made it through the leather. I pushed a little too hard and made a dent in the punch plate but it was entirely avoidable but a testament to how easy this thing is to use.
Overall thoughts: for $20 this thing is a steal. I made a total of 14 holes and the last one felt as easy as the first. This thing could break in a month and I feel like I’ve gotten $20+ out of this because taking my real leather belt to a professional would’ve cost me so much more.
Does it do what as advertised? Hell yeah and way better than what I would’ve imagined. 5 stars

This punch however feels very sturdy and punches cleanly and effortlessly every time.
My only dislike about any/all punches is that the neck is always to small. There's never enough space to allow the user to make a hole further into the fabric. They are all fine for narrow projects like belts and straps and so on but, if I'm almost at the end of a bag project and would like to add a rivet further away from the edge of the fabric, I generally have to maul the bag with an awl as the punch cannot reach.
