To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.
My old edger finally gave up the ghost after 34 years. I saw that this one looked pretty much identical (other than the engine) so I decided to give it a try because of that and the Briggs & Stratton engine. I've never had a bad Briggs & Stratton. Well, this edger is almost identical to my old edger. I took off a star because of the use of plastic in some areas. It may not be a problem because it is used in relatively low stress areas, such as endpoints for cables, but I expect the five cents they saved using plastic there will be a problem someday that will require some home engineering to fix unless by some miracle they still make the parts in 10 years. Unfortunately you can't find an edger that doesn't use inferior plastic instead of steel in some functional places these days (plastic is fine in decorative places). So little chance this one will last 34 years - but a greater chance of that than my living another 34 years.
The engine has always started with three pushes on the priming bulb and one normal cord pull. The three sided star blade does allow one pass edging, unlike the cheaper two blade ones I had been using. But, if they don't hold up well I will go back to the cheaper two blade blades.
I am very happy with this edger and the only way I see it being better is if they go back to steel where they have put plastic.

This thing is awesome lots of POWER. Blows dewalts electric edger away. Don't buy electric edgers they simply don't hold up. I bought one and learned the hard way gas is the only way to go. I didn't buy it through amazon I found it at lowes for a great price and couldn't pass it up.
