Happy with my Boombox!

Happy with my Boombox!
I am so glad that I found this Sony Boombox to replace the recently broken Sony Boombox that I have had since 2004. This one is smaller, compact and lighter, but plays music just as powerfully as the bigger one I had. It is wonderful! I can listen to my CDs, my cassette tapes, the radio, and mp3s from my phone, iPod and computer with this unit. I can also record audio from the radio or CDs with the cassette recorder. It includes the AC cable, an Audio Input cable which connects all your devices to the boombox, a CD/DVD lens cleaner, a cleaning cloth, and easy-to-follow instructions. I learned how to use it by myself in just a few minutes and I am very pleased with it! It is small enough to fit on my nightstand next to a lamp and many other stuff, which is where I had to put it because it does not come with a remote control (reason why I took one star off), so I have to play it manually. Plus, it had to be close to an outlet since the AC cable is not long. It can also be played with six D+ batteries. Great buy!

I've been looking for an 'old school' style boombox, but didn't want to buy an antique used one. This Sony unit has everything I was looking for, built with current technology... decent AM/FM radio, CD player and the bonus of a cassette player. I use the Mega Bass sound enhancement, which adds some rich overall EQ, and CDs sound especially good in this thing. The cassette player is as basic as they get - no counter, making it necessary to guess where a particular cut might be, but the sound is good and it's fun to listen to old cassettes. The unit is compact and amazingly lightweight, even with batteries. I sometimes play music with my Android phone plugged in (with provided cord) and it works great for that purpose, too. Comes with good instructions and accessories. Way back in the day, I had a Sony boombox that lasted for decades, so I hope this one will continue Sony's tradition of making excellent audio products.

I bought this boombox because we just had a two-day power outage and I had nothing to listen to but a tiny Walkman portable radio, and I don't like having to use headphones when I'm trying to make and eat my supper. I needed something small and lightweight, which could use batteries, because I am storing it on the top shelf of a closet until the next power outage. For something so small, and it is really small, it sounds great as long as the bass boost is on. The volume will only go as high as 31, which does not compete very well with my air conditioner, but it is only on a few classical CD's where the volume seems a little low. The volume for the radio is excellent. It has a wonderful feature in that when you hit the stop button, it will stop the CD and return you to the beginning of the same track when you hit play again. No need to keep the CD spinning endlessly on pause. I sure wish my Sony CD changer did that. My only complaint is that the headphone jack is on the back!

I've had this for a month or two and I'd say it's good boombox for what I paid for. We got it to replace the old one in our kitchen because it would skip really bad whenever we played CD's. Overall plays music pretty well and can get loud, and holds the CD well. The only complaint I have is that it sounds hollow without the "mega-bass" on. I just keep it on all the time, since without it there isn't much bass at all. Also the aux cord is a little funky. I tried playing music from my laptop and it didn't work too well, because I guess the cord didn't make the connection well or something? I don't know. I haven't bothered trying it with a different aux cord so hopefully that's the problem and the port's not just bad or whatever. (I was able to play music through my friend's speaker well so my laptop's not the problem.) But yeah, mostly I'll listen to NPR on it or I'll throw a CD in and I've been happy with it so far.

Use this only once a day and for a single purpose...sleep music that simply plays through one CD without repeat. In other words, very little use expectation. However, I have already bought three CD players with this expectation in mind and have been disappointed with their short working history. They now occupy my shelf as broken useless plastic. I realized I had an old SONY radio/tapedeck that I bought more than 30 years ago, plays well and actually has great acoustics as opposed to my shelf occupiers. So, I spent the extra money and bought this radio/tapedeck/CD player and was amazed at the rich sound that came forth. So, in short, so far I am very happy with this solid state item. If you have to buy a portable on the internet and it has to come through UPS or whatever bumpy ride....well, this is your baby! It just may be the most durable for the money as well as the best sounding!

About 20 years ago I had an earlier version of this Sony which continues to perform beautifully in someone else's household now. Happy to report that this Sony newer model (CFD-S70), just delivered most promptly, is performing equally as well in ways that are important to me: sound quality of cd/cassette players, good am/fm reception, recording capabilities of cassette unit. So far so good for me and this new Sony as to certain customer dissatisfactions contained in some previous reviews (static, hissing, limited volume capability, missing cords or manual, poor input from auxiliary sources, destroying tapes). None of these flaws has been present for me with this small but sturdy unit, which I have thoroughly tested in all these regards. If any breakdowns spontaneously occur hereafter, I will report same as long Amazon continues to sell this unit/carry related customer reviews.

Reviewed in the United States on February 16, 2017
Very disappointed. I bought this only because of the MP3 CD Player so that I could listen to books on the MP3 CD in my truck. The books only come in MP3 CDs. I found out that I can not stop the CD and leave the truck and then return and turn it on where I left off. The digital counter turns off with the power button. I can't leave the power on because it would drain the battery while I was away. The counter and the CD starts over from the beginning each time I turn it off. The Fast forward button is very very slow and it is almost impossible to find where I left off. And it takes too long. So then I tried recording the CD on to a Tape Cassette so that I could just stop the tape and start it again when I got back in my truck. Well, when recording the CD to the tape Cassette. When the tape runs out of space and you have to turn it over. You don't know when the tape stops. The CD just keeps on playing even thought the tape is not recording. So when you find out, you have to now try to search for where the CD last got recorded on the Tape and then turn over the tape and continue recording. But as I said before. It is very hard and time consuming to find where the CD was last recorded. It's a BIG hassle. Oh and did I tell you that sometimes the brand new CD in this brand new machine skips. Well it does. So I'm sorry I bought it.
