Wonderful tent! Just shy of perfect!
4 Stars
Wonderful tent! Just shy of perfect!
I don't normally review too many purchases, but since I did about 6 hours of research and purchased 2 other tents before settling on this one, I hope I can help the next person in their purchase. We needed a tent that would accommodate all of our stuff while camping, (there is only 4 of us, but we tend to bring a lot of stuff) and to keep it dry when the temp changes from warm daytime to cool night time. Condensation is no fun when it makes everything wet in your tent. This tent so far has been pretty good with the ability to vent the damp warm air out and keep things dry inside. I was searching high and low for more pictures online, but could find none. So with writing this review, I will include some. I gave this tent 4 stars for a couple of reasons. For starters, it goes up and comes down very easy! Just as they state, about 60 seconds up and 60 seconds down. Of course, it takes longer if you place a tarp down first, and the rain fly makes it a bit longer, but from past experiences with putting up tents this gets an A+. I find it a little strange that the two center posts do not touch the ground when the tent is up, maybe that will change once it is broken in. Even if it doesn't, its not a big deal. We were rained on the first time we used the tent and had some pretty strong winds. Buying an "instant tent" made me a little nervous, but the tent held up well. It was by no means a monsoon, but I didn't feel like we were going to have problems. The biggest gripe I have about modern day tents is the door zippers. I am not sure who thought 2 zippers on a door meeting up together on the bottom of the tent was a good idea, but it is not. It leaves a substantial hole at the bottom for water to enter, not to mention insects and snakes to find their way in. This tent is no different, the large door on the front has 3 zippers that meet in the center. It is covered by a couple of flaps and Velcroed together (the bottom is not attached to the tent, see pictures). That was the only place we had any water in the tent from leakage, it was most likely less than a tablespoon. The side door zipper is a "D" style door so you can position the zippers higher. I did not mind the two different flaps on the side door, in fact it was kind of nice having a spot for the zippers to rest, we always knew where they were in the dark! Having no awning or vestibule on the tent/rainfly means if you enter or leave the tent in the rain you will get water inside, which did happen to us from the side door (ok maybe not an awning, I saw many collapsed awnings after the storm). I plan on packing a "door mat" for the inside next time just in case. I do like how the rain fly is adjustable so the fly remains taut to the top of the tent. Time will tell if the adjusters stay in one piece!Another area I was a bit concerned with were the windows. There is a large window next to the front doors, as well as the front door windows, that does not zip up on the top. They stay open, which may aid in venting, however I found it a bit odd. We had no water from the windows so it will most likely not be an issue, again time (and harsh weather) will tell. None of the windows open all the way, and there are no "tie ups", but you can tuck the excess in the front to keep it from being in your face while laying down. The zippers for the window are not at the edge of the window, (about an inch and a half, the width of the grey stripe) I suspect because there is no rain fly covering the windows (seems pretty smart to me). The vents on either side of the "back" of the tent are low enough to the ground that it doesn't appear that water will be an issue. The vent flaps must be staked to the ground because there is no way to fasten those to the tent either. Again, not sure how they will be in extremely inclement weather, time will tell. Overall, it seems solidly built and again very easy to pitch. Even with some air remaining inside when putting back in the bag, it fits along with the room divider, the rain fly, 7 heavy duty tent stakes (I added those, not a fan of the thin "wirelike" stakes tents are coming with these days, though the Core stakes are considerably larger diameter than others I have seen), the stakes the tent came with and a 12x9 tarp. I think we can live with the slight imperfections of this tent, just because the good heavily outweighs the bad! I do plan on sealing the tent so I know it will be "water proof". I hope this review helps others, and hope to use this tent for many years to come .

Probably the easiest tent to set up I've ever owned or used. You pretty much just straighten some poles and lock the extenders in place and you're good to go, so long as you don't need to hammer in the stakes. Probably my favorite thing about the tent is the amount of air circulation you get due to all the "windows" and the top being mesh rather than solid fabric. That might be a turn off for some, especially if you're in a crowded public camping space, but if you're in a sparsely populated place, it's phenomenal to see the stars with.

Personally, I don't mind setting up the provided rain tarp if I wanted some privacy from above, though if you have the windows zipped up, the only way someone's looking in on you from the top is if they're on a ladder, 8 feet tall, or using a drone and that's quite a bit of effort on their part.

I've not yet had to test the rain fly's abilities, which is nice, though I'm sure it will perform admirably. Some other things to note: provided with the tent itself is, as mentioned, a rain fly, tent "divider" (which splits the tent in half if you clip it all in), carry bag, repair patches, and a bundle of stakes. Not provided, from what I got anyways, was a ground tarp and a stake mallet. Neither of those things are particularly expensive to pick up or even necessary, but before you order this guy and think you're all set, just be aware that you should probably get those separately. I have seen a couple reviews that the bottom of the tent could rip somewhat easily and it's a good idea to have a ground tarp for underneath your tent anyways.

Pros:
-Easy to set up (takes like 45 seconds if you're fast)
-Good air circulation via the mesh top and generous amount of large, easy to close windows
-Big and comes with a way to divide up the space

Cons:
-Mesh top that requires the use of the rain fly to cover (this doesn't bother me, but it might do for some)
-Bottom of tent seems a little flimsy (I've not had any issues but having felt the material, I will definitely get a ground tarp to prolong the life span of this tent)
-Doesn't seem to be anywhere to hook a ceiling line (I can't imagine it's terribly difficult to install something like that, though previous tents I've had have hooks in the corner for you to run a ceiling line to hang small lights, fans, etc. on. Certainly not a big deal but just FYI)

All in all, super happy with this purchase and the hardest part is getting it back in the bag. It's doable with one person but it makes it a lot easier with two.

Style: 9 Person (Green)Verified Purchase
After much waffling on different models, selected this tent for a cross country road trip where my family of 4 would camp most nights, one night per location. That's alot of setting up and tearing down, and my two kids are too young to be of much real help. As such, the "instant" style tent seemed the best fit for my needs. Had been leaning towards the Coleman Instant Cabin 8, but ultimately selected this one for the weight, this one is about 10lbs lighter at a little over 30 lbs, compared to the Coleman at just over 40 lbs. I had also been attracted to the Gazelle 8-person, it's one of those that literally pops up; but it was expensive, and I had concerns about how well it would hold up to high winds, and reading the reviews it didn't actually seem to go up any quicker than this one. Finally, I searched around all the premium backpacking brands looking for something ultralight. I used to backpack extensively and am no stranger for paying a premium to shave off weight, especially for large heavy gear like tents. Brands like Big Agnes, MSR, etc. However I find that in the 8-person capacity range, the weight of those tents was still in the same ballpark as these car camping varieties (near 30 lbs or more). Based on that, I ruled out those brands because the price is much higher.

I received the tent yesterday. Since it was beautiful spring weather, I decided to give it a shakedown. The tent set up so easily. Although I had spectators, I wanted to try a one person set up. Took maybe 2-3 minutes, first time, no instructions (I did watch a couple of YouTube videos while I was deciding on tents). As luck would have it, we were expecting some mild thunderstorms overnight, followed by another dry sunny day. So I had the chance to try out the weatherproofing and still have a day to dry it out before packing it away. So I guyed out the rainfly and also staked all 8 anchors on the tent itself. Heard the thunder in the wee hours of the morning and the gutters gushing right outside my bedroom window. This morning: not a drop in the tent. One little drop fell out of the zipper on the door as I opened up the tent.

So this afternoon, the true test: packing the tent away. This is always the part I dread the most, since I was a kid. Such a pain to roll around on a moist tent trying to squeeze the thing back in the bag. Especially on a road trip where you're wanting to get up and get on the road, and it takes so long to break camp anyway with all the other equipment that has to be packed up and stowed. Takedown was flawless, despite a strong breeze. Dropping the tent and folding it up is truly a 60 second job, and again this was my first time. It did take another couple minutes to tie the thing around with the two strings provided. Honestly those are too short and too flimsy anyway and I'll replace them with some paracord. Then it stuffed back into the bag, along with the rain fly, in seconds. It was awesome! It took me 5 times as long to carefully coil up the guy lines on the rain fly so they wouldn't be a tangled mess, as it did to break down, fold up and pack the entire rest of the tent. I'm a super happy camper, so far. I plan to use this in a variety of settings, pretty intensively for a few weeks this summer, so I will update this review with regard to durability, longevity and other factors I'm not foreseeing at this time.

The only issue I had with the tent was, somehow it came to me with no stakes. I wasn't terribly disappointed because the stakes that come with tents are typically short, crappy steel ones, and the reviews indicated no different with this tent. So I would likely have replaced them anyway. No worries, I hop on Amazon and contact customer service. They're unable to send replacement parts, the only option is to return the whole tent, which seems absurd with a tent of this size when everything works perfectly. After a quick chat with a bot, then a real person, they offered to refund a discount to cover the cost of the stakes, an asked how much I would need to replace them. Well I was going to buy good, long aluminum or titanium stakes with real eyelets, so I told them $20. They agreed, but within a couple of hours I received $30 + tax issued to my Amazon account. That will more than cover the cost of some nice, lightweight stakes! Based on this excellent customer service, my 5 star (so far) review remains.

UPDATE: after a 3-week cross-country road trip, this tent has been an excellent choice for my needs. It has remained durable after 15 nights of camping with constant set up and tear downs. It withstood multiple days and nights of rain with absolutely no leaks. The only negative thing that happened was one of the poles had the little plastic green release button jam up and break while camping at Kaibab National Forest. Thereafter, for that single pole I have to use a screwdriver or other small pointed tool to reach in and press the button that allows the pole to collapse. All in all, for less than $300, this tent was an excellent value.

Pros:

Saludos

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, easy set-up, spacious tent

This really blew us away with how easy it was to set up. At a push, one person could put this up within 5-10 minutes.
Ultimately, that’s the biggest advantage.
The single cabin space is airy and tall enough for most adults at least up to 6’2” to stand up in without issue.
We are on our third trip with this, over 2 seasons, and it’s kept us thoroughly dry in a day long deluge with only a very small volume of water getting in (maybe a few tablespoons).
Admittedly, the rain cover over the top is somewhat inadequate, but it covers up the top reasonably well. Considering how much it rained, we can’t really fault it too much.
The material quality seems moderately good. As a few others have pointed out, the button click fixing poles may give out at some stage, and this may prove an annoyance for many, who perhaps will be unwilling to fix them. For the moment, they have performed admirably and continue to do so.
Zip quality seems good, with a little snagging at the side entryway. I quite like that it has no partition, but others may prefer one.
The fixing pegs included are not adequate, but that’s cheap enough to manage oneself. The storm lines for the rain/fly sheet are good.
Overall, this is an excellent purchase, regardless of cost.
It’s delivers well on all counts, but especially cor ease of set up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent! As advertised...

I was skeptical about this product as I have always been wary when tent manufactures plug the water resistance and ease of set up of their tents. I've owned many and they seldom live up to the hype. I literally go this tent about 15 minutes ago and in that time, I removed all the packing materials, set it up, had a quick walkthrough, and have taken it down and packed it up again. Most of the time spent was getting it out of the box. Full disclaimer though, I didn't stake it down or put the fly up. This was just a quick little test.

So, happy to say it is as easy as advertised. I didn't even read the directions. On walkthrough, it seems very well made with lot's of venting through out. Zippers seem to be of good quality. My only thought so far is it could have used some more inner pockets. I can stand straight up as well which is nice as I recently hurt my back. The giant T-Door is nice for us to haul our gear through. I always like vestibules on tents which this one doesn't have, but honestly, I'm not sure how that would have worked with this design without compromising the ease of set up which is the main reason I purchased it. So I knew going in it didn't have one and am totally ok with it.

I'm going camping this weekend so will put it through it's paces. To date, I've only given it 4 stars as I need to go camping with it and see how it all holds up. I'm curious to test the water resistance. I typically prefer full fly's. However, if it performs as they say, and at this point everything else does, I would easily move this to a 5 star.

Excited to try this out! I'll update review accordingly.

Also, very fast shipping which is nice!

UPDATE: so, I took this tent out on the weekend and I must say it was put to the test. 2 days of severe thunderstorms. Happy to report that it had no problems with the wind ( of course I had the guy wiressecured) and NO leaks. This was my biggest concern but after this weekend of constant rain I’m not worried at all. The only water that got in the tent was the water I brought with me coming in the door. Since there is no vestibule I will just solve that minor issue with small mat for my shoes onside the door

Now that I have tested it I’m happy to rate this 5 out of 5

5.0 out of 5 stars Muy buena tienda de acampar, facilidad de armado, gran espacio.
