This is by far my favorite espresso machine accessory. I have a few other tampers but this one is the easiest one to use. The built in "click" is nice to know once you've reached the 30lb worth of force down on the puck. It really does make tamping almost fool proof. I use this in combination with a SMKF Three 3 Leaf Clover Base Palm Tampers Coffee Leveler Macaroon Tamper Proof for Espresso Coffee Grounds - 58mm (Red) , which helps me to level out the grinds prior to tamping. So far so good!

Well constructed.

Measured 27lb force on my bathroom scale (which isn't the most accurate in the world - but it's in the ballpark). The magnitude of the tamping force isn't as critical as the repeatability.

Works well on a Silvia double basket (though at low doses, eg. 12g, the basket shoulder prevents the tamper from fully tamping). Most importantly, it helps a beginner with consistency when applying the tamping force. One less variable to worry about.

This is a great tamper, especially if you have trouble gauging just how much pressure to apply to those lovely fresh grounds. The 58mm size fits my single, double and open-bottom Profitec portafilters almost perfectly and gives me great and even results with each shot I pull. The hard stainless steel surface is both durable and easy to keep clean with just a quick wipe.

About the only two things I'd like to change would be to have some way of calibrating the force differently. You get 30 lbs, but that might be too much (or too little) for different combinations of grind and beans. A way to dial in whatever pressure you want between maybe 20 and 40 pounds would be terrific. And of course the other complaint is the price...although it seems fair in comparison to other tampers, it's only a lump of steel with a plastic handle and a spring, after all.

Overall, very impressed.

We have purchased 3 of these tamps and as I do like them and their consistency they seem to be extremely fragile and will quit clicking. Out of the 3 that we purchased they have all quit clicking. We have a foam mat in our shop and when a barista accidentally drops on of these tamps they always quit clicking. In a perfect world a barista would never drop a tamp but as it is bound to happen I feel like these tamps are too fragile and expensive for the coffee shop environment.

The product is good in tampering my coffee grinds. The only problem was terrible service from Canada Post during the Christmas/New Year period. It was on out-for-delivery status on Dec 17 but only delivered on Jan 3 after I submitted a complain to Canada Post. My city is small. One can passes through it from North to South and East to West in half an hour. The item could have been delivered way before Christmas even on foot.
