Gets Really Hot (good), but Spits at times (bad)

Gets Really Hot (good), but Spits at times (bad)
My 15+ year old Rowenta still works, but the sole plate is pretty much trashed. After trying to clean it and failing, I realized the coating was actually peeling off the sole plate. And I was a very bad iron-owner, not emptying the water reservoir and using hard tap water (eek) and all kinds of calcium deposits built up. This is not how one is supposed to treat an iron. So, time for a new one. I considered buying another Rowenta, but frankly didn't want to spend more than $45 and the good Rowenta irons cost almost double that. Off I went to look at reviews. Came across the reviews for this Black+Decker iron and was intrigued. I don't need digital anything, just need good heat, great steam, the ability to clean out any calcium buildup, ease in adding water. This met all the criteria. I was concerned at the negative reviews about how difficult it is to see either the dial to select temperature or how much water was in the tank. I personally haven't had those issues since buying the iron. I hold the iron up and the light is coming in through the window and I can see how much water is in the tank. And I also haven't had any problems with the dial or seeing exactly what number I'm on. I keep the iron dialed-in to my most often used temperature, which is 4 (cotton). Now, for the complaints about no 'off' function on the iron, this is how many irons are made, even my 15+ year old Rowenta. I use an extension cord that has its own 'power off' switch so I can control on/off without having to unplug my iron. I did this for years with my Rowenta iron. Of course the iron also has an auto-off feature that stops the heat to the iron after 8 minutes if the iron is sitting up and 30 seconds if the iron is resting on the sole plate. As far as the steam, it's pretty good! My old Rowenta has a more powerful steam function, but this iron is half the price and it certainly gets the job done, and the steam function is good. I use my iron mostly for clothes ironing. Actually I try to avoid ironing as much as I can (hey I'm only human). The weight of this Black+Decker D3030 is not that heavy at all. It's not a 'light' iron, but my old Rowenta is heavier. The Black+Decker is comfortable to use. It gets super hot. Heat-up time is not fast but I'd say it's about average--maybe 4 to 4.5min to get to the level needed for cotton. The stainless steel sole plate is good quality. Emptying the reservoir is actually very easy and quick! This motivates me to dump out the water into a measuring cup I keep near the iron right when I'm done ironing. And that is the trick to keeping the build-up of calcium in control. I also now use distilled water to avoid calcium deposits as I do have hard water in my area. But one still needs to empty out the iron to keep the iron running well. So far so good on this iron. I will update this review if I run into any issues.UPDATE 3/24/16: I'm downgrading my rating from 4 to 3 for now. Why? Take a look at the picture I just uploaded of tan slacks. See those 2 little brown spots? That came from my iron this morning, after pressing the "burst of steam" button. I use distilled water in my new iron AND empty the iron out after every use AND let the iron get hot. This is maybe the 3rd time I used my iron since getting it. I cleaned the iron out when I first got it by filling with water, letting the iron get really hot, and ironing things and using the burst of steam a bunch of times and finally fully emptying the water reservoir. I hoped to avoid this exact staining problem. I was aghast when I was ironing these pants this morning and literally saw these 2 spots be created from the burst of steam. Gahhhhhh. The wet spot surrounding it is from a Shout Wipe & Go cloth,to try and get the stains out. I'm also using a brand new plain ironing cover/pad, so that's not the problem. I'm annoyed.
