Great red dot sight

Great red dot sight
This is my second DDHB Red Dot. I liked my first one so much that I bought a second for my AR Pistol in .300BLK, and I'm very pleased with this one as well. Installation is easy, and I can put it directly on my rail without a rail riser, unlike for my Bushnell TRS-25 (have to have .83" risers with that one to co-witness iron sights). But these? I can just slap it on, tighten a couple bolts, and go plinking a few hundred rounds without it coming loose. So compared to the TRS-25, I save $10-15 for the sight itself, and another $7-10 for the riser, so it's a steal.I love the profile of this red dot sight. The TRS-25, and many other red dots, have knobs that interfere with your field of view, and reduces your situational awareness. I was dry-fire practicing indoors with my TRS-25 on one of my other carbines, and the cat pounced on the laser on the target, and I didn't have a clue until the trigger pull had broken -- simply because the cat had been hiding where the knobs and smaller view were obscuring my field of view. Had that been a live round instead of dry-fire? Not pretty. I don't have that problem with the DDHB Red Dot, because the frame is much thinner and knobs are minimal. SoI can shoo the kitty away before it goes clicky. And having been used to the "batteries not included" culture, Dagger Defense is an awesome surprise. They not only give you one, but TWO CR2032's in the box. Probably for idiots like me, who've been using red dots for years, but STILL can't be bothered to remember to turn it off after dry-fire practice -- only to find out two days later that it's been sitting in the safe while being left on. Lost count how many times I've done that! Interestingly enough, this model has survived being left on for a couple days straight, with some life left afterwards. But it's nice to know that there's always a spare included, so I keep it in the pistol grip of my Magpul MOE K2 storage compartment. If I had to name a negative point, it would be the adjustment tightening screw. I also own DD's cheaper model, and it stopped holding zero in less than a hundred rounds. I tried to tighten the adjustment lock screw, but it did nothing. This model has a similar screw, so I'm a bit afraid of it having issues, but that was one of 4 DD red dots I own, so it could have been a fluke. Thankfully for my defective red dot, Mike at DD came to the rescue and replaced it for no charge. These guys are GREAT at customer service. Quick response to my troubleshooting emails, and my replacement came in 2 days like he said it would. Can't thank them enough. All in all, I'm excited to get more years of use out of this red dot. Thanks for a great product, DD!

5.0 out of 5 stars The sight arrived in a very nicely packaged sturdy box with instructional manual
Reviewed in the United States on October 18, 2015
UPDATED 8/6/2016: Took this red dot reflex sight out with my SBR AR-15 to the range. Fired 150 rounds down range and this sight performed GREAT! It did not come loose, I was able to sight the rifle in at 50-yd and punch a palm-sized hole with 30rds of ammo on a windy day. The dot adjustment buttons worked well; I will report back in the future to see how well they held their zero.

I have had some "value-oriented" red dot reflex sights before, and the issues were limitless: either the lens was dirty/not ground properly, or it drains the battery very quickly, or I could not adjust for windage without breaking it. The Dagger Defense red dot reflex sight does not appear to have any of those issues. The sight arrived in a very nicely packaged sturdy box with instructional manual, battery (CR123), lens cleaning cloth, allen wrenches (2 sizes, 1 for aim adjustment, 1 for mounting), and the sight itself.

The sight mounted onto my AR very easily and securely. I was able to tighten down on the screws without stripping anything. 4 reticles to choose from and the selector knob was easy to turn but does click satisfying into place. On the right side of the sight is the brightness/color selector knob, which can be turned in either direction for bright red -> dim red -> off -> bright green -> dim green -> off. The knob does "click" into either off positions to let you know it had turned off. I really like the extended lens housing that affords additional shielding for the lens and to block out some of the glare. I was able to zero the sight easily using the included small allen wrench, and as far as I can tell, it was able to aim at the same spot painted by my laser bore-sight. The reticle is easily acquired when I raise the AR. I have NOT had a chance to test this sight while shooting yet, and will come back to edit the review to note whether it will hold zero under recoil. But for now, the initial impressions point to a quality and affordable product that will suit many sports enthusiasts out there well.
