I really didn't know what to expect when I ordered this manual grinder. I wanted something to grind a coarser, more uniform grind so I could use my French press. I just got it and I am initially quite pleased with it. It has a rubber cover that goes over the hopper while cranking so you don't get bean debris flying out. There is a lid that screws on the glass receptacle so you can keep excess coffee fresh. The design is very simple and looks to be of quality. I really can't see anything breaking unless the ceramic were to crack. I was able to easily produce the coarse grind I wanted as well as a finer grind for drip coffee. I would definitely buy again.Update 10/01/16. I have been using this every day for the past few months and it is still going strong. It makes a perfect grind for me. What I really love is that all the coffee grinds easily pour out of the glass receptacle. I use my electric drill with an m6 nut to speed up the process. It takes just under a minute to grind 4 coffee scoops.

I was quite surprised that I could taste a significant difference from coffee ground in a hand cranked conical burr mill, but I really could! I have an automatic disk burr grinder and a typical blade grinder, and neither produce as rich a flavor profile. The best way to describe it would be as both smoother and more robust at the same time.

The product itself feels quite sturdy and the ceramic burrs produce a very nice, fine grind. You'll have to experiment a bit to find your perfectly granularity, but it's easy to adjust. The mill itself is larger that you might think from the pictures, but fits easily into your hand. The mill has plenty of capacity to grind as much coffee as you want, but be aware that it takes while. I usually use 6 scoops for six cups at a medium fine grind, and it takes about 3 minutes. I find it to be kind of a Zen exercise, but it's not a task for the lazy.

Simple Kitchen Products seems like a very ethical company that is marketing a quality product and is focused on keeping its customers happy. I hope I don't sound like a shill, but when I like a product, I'm glad to help out stand out.

Nice product! Packaging was perfect -- I liked the custom-looking air-filled sleeve the unit came in, not excessive but you could drop it from some height without worry. The mill is definitely worth the very modest price -- finally, coffee with plenty of crema, and freshly ground for each shot. It does take some patience (another reviewer claimed 200 cranks for one double shot), I didn't take count. It's a bit of a challenge for multiple cups of coffee, but on the other hand, great for one or two (max.), you will get used to the grinding vs. having yet another motorized appliance that makes noise and needs a plug. To me, the grain size is very consistent, gives me a nice "puck" after the espresso shot, and there is less mess in my espresso machine. Getting coffee ground at the store definitely does not produce the same good result as this little mill -- in sum, great grind result for very little money. I didn't award a fifth star because of one quibble -- the nut that holds the handle down does come loose at least once or twice during one grinding process, and today, I wound up torquing the rectangular cutout of the crank on the bottom end of the threads because I did not notice the nut loosened -- didn't seem to damage the threads, but it was a bit of a warning. I might put a drop of hot melt or something into the threads of the nut to keep it from un-threading so readily (once you set the correct grind, there really seems to be no need to remove the crank... you can add more beans simply by bending the hopper cover up). Thus, definitely get this thing if you don't already have a good burr grinder, and possibly if you don't want to wake others in the morning, it is quiet. However, either be very vigilant or put some light non-slip compound (think of nylok nuts) into the nut that holds the crank down.

I bought this coffee grinder for my daughter as a Christmas gift, but I make the coffee most mornings. I usually brew a 12 cup pot with a run-of-the-mill, drip coffee maker. Occasionally my daughter brews Vietnamese style or uses a French press. After a few weeks of daily use in our household, I think I know this grinder well enough to comment. Some possible downsides to the grinder are: (1.) The nut securing the handle may loosen during grinding. I usually give it a quick tighten whenever I switch hands grinding. You could use a lock washer if it really bothers you. (2.) The rubber cushion base falls off. However, the included pamphlet states that the rubber piece isn't meant to be attached, and is provided for use if you hold the grinder against a surface while grinding. I don't use it. (3.) The grinder is uncalibrated, which means you will have to determine the grind you like by trial and error. (4.) Fine grind is uniform, coarse grind not so uniform. Some possible strong points are: (1.) The company stands behind its products, and communicates well. (2.) The grinder is sturdy and very easy to use. It takes me less than two minutes to grind enough coffee to brew a pot. (3.) Inexpensive, but high quality. (4.) The difference between burr ground coffee and electric impact style ground coffee is like night and day. Really. Even when brewed in a cheap, twelve cup dripper. I give five stars both to the grinder, and Simple Kitchen Products.

I freely admit to being a coffee snob.

Coffee.
I've owned a fair share of grinders in my time, and this? This is by far, hands down, the worst grinder I've ever used.
The design is based off the Hario Skerton and Kyocera CM-50, grinders with somewhat of a cult following in their own right. There are minor differences, which on paper should make this grinder superior., but it just isn't. The feed hopper and the crank are both larger, which in theory means you can grind more coffee, and do so easier. Also included is an installed 'stabilizing washer', which is a popular aftermarket upgrade for the Hario, as it leads to a more consistent grind.
This thing should be a great grinder. the problem? the burrs are so poorly made that I just could not get a consistent grind out of it. I've included photos, which were the best of 3 grinds. Sifting the grounds out revealed grounds course enough for french press, fine enough for Turkish coffee, and a pile of perfectly ground pour over. All from a single grind. I tried multiple adjustments, and the photos included were the best I could get, so depending on what type of coffee you are making well over 50% of what you grind could end up as trash. and coffee is way to expensive for that. I wish the manufacturer would put quality ceramic burrs on this thing, because that is really all it needs to be a real winner.
