A decent little bike
4 Stars
A decent little bike
Purchased this bike on January 14, 2020 after looking at numerous brands, models, and reviews. Exerpeutic gets good reviews and seemed suited to my 178 lb. 5 ft. 9 in. frame. Many similar bikes, while they won’t say so, seemed lighter weight and pitched toward women. I avoided Exerpeutic’s older models due to occasional complaints of difficulty getting parts when problems arise. The one-year warranty covers the frame only, with a 90 day warranty on everything else. I thought it best to spend the extra $22 on a three-year extended warranty.Shipping: Super fast and secure. Arrived early in good condition.Assembly: The instructions are…OK. Small parts are packaged on a paper card in labeled plastic bubbles. Some things not fully explained require a little patient thought. Obviously, be careful with the pedals. The threading is not the same on both sides, kind of like an old Chrysler. The lock nuts that go on the pedal shaft are just that, lock nuts, lined with plastic near the top, and it’s not clear how tight you should go. The video I watched showed a number of things only installed a turn or two so I was on my own. I went “snug” which was not easy. The phone holder is best installed with a long screwdriver. The screwdriver tool included was clumsy and any other screwdriver would not extend through the access slots in the outer surface of the holder. The wires for the digital display were easy to attach but where to put them? They were an awkward fit to simply attach and leave dangling, and mine seemed squeezed under the display when I mounted it. I gently tucked the wires and connectors into the void on the back of the display formed by the plastic tablet holder molded into the front (see photo).Performance: I have ridden almost daily since purchase, 30 – 45 minutes, at 12 – 14 mph, resistance setting 4 with an occasional minute or two at 5. I warm up and cool down for a minute or two at 2 and 3. It will get your pulse up, make you sweat, and burn some calories. Standing up and cranking at level 8 or trying to “spin” will probably break it. If you are a serious cyclist or work-out fiend, spend the $2000 and $47 per month on a Peloton. This is not that, nor is it intended to be.The seat is comfortable enough although made of wood and vinyl stapled together (see photo), I worry it may not be long for this world. The seat has 5 possible heights and I’m comfortable at either the middle setting or one shorter. You can also screw the seat to its mount in either tall or short person mode. My first couple of rides, the flywheel made some intermittent scratchy sounds, like the end of a cable or plastic scraping it. It eventually went away. It also makes occasional rhythmic light clunking sounds that are hard to localize. The crank or the frame and seat as me and/or the bike get warm and tired? Hard to say. The footprint is relatively small and when collapsed, the bike is easy to store leaning against a wall. The electronics are pretty easy. Push “mode” to walk through all of the data displays, ending with pulse. If you push it again, you are in scan mode. Push it again to get back to manual display. The app that you get is easy too, although sort of limited. Set up an account, login before each ride, choose your goals or bypass them to just have it monitor the single ride. The pedals have to be moving before you choose connect or Bluetooth will not detect the display on the bike. Once it's connected and running, it will zero the display and off you go. It does not export data as far as I can tell.

5.0 out of 5 stars sturdy, beginner, basic excercise bike
Reviewed in the United States on December 12, 2017
I have used this bike for a month and so far I am very pleased with it. I already have a commercial-like elliptical, so I wanted an affordable yet sturdy bike. I am 5 foot 4 inches and 225 lbs. I have had no issues getting on the bike or riding it. The weight capacity label on my bike did indicate up to 400 lbs and it does seem heavy duty and durable. The large seat cushion is also comfortable and easy to adjust. [See note at bottom regarding seat cushion] The oversized pedals are towards the front and can be used with regular shoes (unlike spinning bikes). It hardly makes any noise at all; I ride it while watching TV and it doesn't bother others in the same room.

I wanted a sturdy bike with options to adjust the ease of the cycling. The levels of tension are basic but still functional. The change in resistance is smooth. The LCD display is also basic and easy to use. It does not keep a record of your individual workouts. It does not have any pre-programmed workouts. Unless you reset the console, it will pause and continue workout stats. [Note: Once the machine timer reaches 100 minutes, the timer restarts at zero because it only allows 2 digit hour and 2 digit minute counter.] I like that it uses 2 AA batteries (included). No need to plug it into an outlet (nor is there the ability to do so). [Disregard the nearby cords in my photos, those are from other electronics near the bike.] It turns on when you start to pedal and it powers down after 5 minutes of no use.

I keep my bike open, but it is easy to unfold or fold and move. I like that the stabilizer bars are wide. I have had no issues with wobbling. I did place an exercise equipment mat underneath it to protect my hardwood floors from any wear & tear--still no wobbling even at the highest resistance or tension.

The bike arrived well packaged. Even though the box appeared dinged from shipping, all the pieces were in tact. It didn't take long to assemble. Users have to attach the stabilizer bars, handlebars, pedals, seat post, seat, console and tension knob. I tried to heed the past reviews concerning the resistance cable for the tension control, but still had issues with that step. Installing the cable for the magnetic tension knob is the trickiest part for sure! The instructions and photos in the user guide, at that step are, not helpful [unless you've assembled similar items in the past]. I couldn't find any videos for this specific bike model. Even though I tried to be extra cautious, I still made the mistake of removing the black plastic spacer too early. I found other similar bike assembly videos to figure out what I did wrong. Once I saw what I should have done, I carefully used a flat screw driver to extend the area where the black spacer was and put it back. It was tight, but doable with care. As soon as the spacer was reinstalled I was able to quickly hook up the magnetic tension cable correctly, pop out the spacer (again) and complete the assembly.

NOTE: The seat doesn’t fit to the bike with a standard bike fitting but with three screws. So there are only two options. The instructions does provide guidance on what option to use based on your height. But if you're on the shorter side and want more custom positioning you may have to take additional steps to make it more comfortable. If you're handy, perhaps drill other holes or replace the fitting. I also read that there are Exercise Bike Seat adaptors that allows people to attach the bike seat of their choice in perhaps a better position.
