Just What I Needed!
I bought a different, plastic ice shaver on Amazon and it lasted exactly 4 months before the motor ran out. I wish I had seen this earlier. Even though it is more expensive than the other one, It is well worth the price. As a person who loves to eat shaved ice plain, I use this several times a day. The remaining ice that gets caught inside does melt and leaves small puddles but I have found a solution (see picture). I just took an inexpensive pan that I bought at Walmart and set the machine inside. At the end of the day I dump out the small amount of water and wipe dry. I highly recommend this product.

This has been our favorite "toy" of the year. I bought this back in May for my son's birthday party. It was Snoopy themed and we had a Snoopy snow cone shaver that is really more for the novelty than a practical snow cone maker, but he insisted it wouldn't be a snoopy party without a snow cone. I couldn't image spending an hour shaving one piece of ice to get a thimble full of snow cone. That and the fact that my son spends the price of a small island each summer making us take him to the little snow cone trucks in town got me to look into a legitimate snow cone machine. I got this one after reading reviews on about 10 and bit the bullet as I was running out of time to get it in before the party. WE LOVE IT! It is fast, super easy to use and truly makes "snow!" not crushed ice but soft snow like you would find outside in the middle of winter. It is loud, but it literally takes about 5 seconds to crush a large cup of ice into snow cones (for one large cup of ice we can get 3 small cups of snow cone, and by small I mean the average size cup we use to drink OJ out of in the morning). I bought 4 syrups to go with it and it has been such a hit during these hot summer days that I rearranged the appliances on my cabinet so it can stay out. We have used it every day, even if it is just to make plain snow (my adult friends didn't want syrup ;) ) Excellent purchase if you love snow cones, slushies, or if you want it for adult beverages like Margaritas.

I love ice. Coming from South Louisiana where New Orleans Shaved ice is readily available and now living in Texas, where it is difficult to find, this machine gives me that snowy texture and it's super fast. I found the exact little 4oz storage cups to use to freeze the water so the frozen water fits perfectly in the machine. (If the piece of frozen water is too large, the machine's safety mechanism will prevent it from starting up.) I pop the frozen water into the mouth of the machine, and pretend I'm back home making snowballs on a hot afternoon. I keep several of these little storage cups frozen in my freezer and just pop out a couple to shave for a refreshing coke, tea or just use a spoon and eat. I was spending a fortune on cups of ice at the fast food joints and snowcone stands. This machine has more than paid for itself in saved money and also on making me happy, because I know snowballs are only seconds away and I don't even have to leave the house! Only tiny drawback is that it's pretty loud when chopping, but it's so fast, it doesn't last but a few seconds.

My kids love icees on a hot day (which we get more than our fair share of) and I like that I can control the amount of sugar added to their treats. When I ordered this I expected an ice shaver. Upon removing it from the box, I noted the casting marks on the potmetal ice chute, the first indication of poor quality. It only got worse. The box said ice crusher and that is all it did. I froze some round blocks of ice but it barely worked. The spring to keep the pusher door open was not wound tight enough and did not work. It even left a sharp point that could injure your hand. So poorly made, they didn’t even indicate what country it was made in. The instructions were nearly indecipherable. A mish mash of broken English.
I won’t say, but I’m pretty sure where this was made. Shame on whoever made it and shame on Amazon for selling it.
I’m sending it back pronto! 😡
