I needed a braising pot that was wider and more shallow than most 5 qt pots tend to be. I used this braiser to make a tagine that I had been making for years in a Pyrex, and this took it to the next level completely. My family couldn't get over how the same food became exponentially more moist, flavorful and delicious. The ease of use, even heating and beautiful design have me completely sold.
This is my first piece of cast iron cookware, but I'm afraid that anything I buy after this will be a disappointment! With its beautiful looks and superior cooking abilities the bar has been set high.

It is heavy cast iron, so if you are looking for a lightweight pot, keep looking. It did come "seasoned" (or ready to use), which was a bonus! I've never been thrilled with the searing of the smooth, white interior of most enameled cast iron. As I was doing my research I found that the matte black of Staub does a much better job, so I zeroed in on them until I found the Analon. With the Staub-like interior and full metal handle safe up to 500F for 2/5 the price I figured it was worth a try, and boy was I right!

I haven't actually tried Staub, but I can say without a doubt this gives a better sear than a Lodge. The handle is easy to grip, and the lid fits very well. The enamel is smooth and even on the outside, and the inside has that great texture that releases very well.

I'll definitely be adding a Dutch oven soon. I just wish they offered some more colors and some smaller sizes.

The picture was misleading--looks like it is non-stick on the inside. However, it is not. Treat it like any other cast iron skillet you have and season the inside. It is a good cast iron skillet for braising. The lid is sturdy and all parts can be put in the oven. If you know how to use cast iron skillets, you should be fine.
