    Features & Design

Optimum performance for gaming, surfing and everything else

Multi-tasking processing: With 6th Gen Intel i5 Quad-Core processors, you’ll have all the power you need to enjoy both gaming and entertainment.

Stream and re-stream videos: The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M is your performance-class graphics card with 4GB GDDR5 discrete memory. This graphics powerhouse gives you high frame-per-second rates in games and accelerates video editing and transcoding.

Solid-State Drive (SSD): Solid-state drives are similar to the flash-based memory that you find in USB memory devices and have no moving parts, making them more secure and less prone to failure than standard hard drives. SSDs also pull your data from the drive faster and outperform 10,000 rpm Hard Disk Drives (HDDs) in read/write speeds, meaning you’ll also get faster load times on game maps and other information that’s stored on your device.

For people on the go, the potential benefits are significant

    • Improved performance faster boot times, faster application launches and faster access to all your documents
    • Durability helps protect your important files from potential drops
    • Longer battery life lower power consumption by SSDs than HDDs
    • Quieter, lightweight, and cooler than standard hard drives

Keeps things cool, Keeps you entertained

Our revolutionary thermal cooling design was built to handle our highest-performance processors and graphics. The two cooling fans, three exhausts and large vents with 240 thermal fins all work together so you can experience uninterrupted gaming and smooth streaming, all while your system and palm rest stay cool.

Good gaming performance for the price, up-gradable, warranty service could be better
    3 Stars
Good gaming performance for the price, up-gradable, warranty service could be better
The Dell 15" 7559 is a surprisingly good Windows 10 gaming laptop. This is considered a "budget gaming laptop" because its price is so low ($800-$860). I've seen 2 main configurations. The first is a Core i5 with a 256gb SSD. The second is a Core i7 with a 1TB Hybrid HDD, which is what this review is about. Both these configurations come with 8gb RAM, and a 1080p display. What caught my eye is the 4gb version of the Geforce 960M graphics card that this laptop comes with. Typically, most "budget gaming laptops" below $1000 only offer the 2gb version.Gaming PerformanceOnce the laptop is set up, playing games on this laptop is fun, and they all look quite good. As mentioned before, the 7559 has the 4gb version of the 960M - which is considered a budget-friendly graphics card. Counter-Strike GO, Dota 2, Starcraft 2, Just Cause 3, Half-Life 2, and Fallout 4 run flawlessly. - and at high settings. The most demanding game that I've played on it so far is Dark Souls 3. I average around 40-45 fps in that game with settings set on high. I can manage 50+ fps when I turn things down to medium or below. By gaming standards this is somewhat mediocre to be honest, but it's still perfectly playable. By contrast, a 970M would definitely be a huge step up, but most laptops with that graphics card are considerably more expensive. This laptop uses a hybrid-HDD as its main storage (8gb are on an included SSD that works in conjunction with the HDD). This means its a bit faster than most standard HDDs, but nowhere near as fast a pure SSD. Still, the loading isn't bad at all, and I barely notice it most of the time.Set upThe Set up took about 2 hours for me. That's because I had problems after installing the latest Nvidia drivers, and their Geforce Experience software. I had some graphic glitches that started to occur (I got error messages from windows, and a few games that I installed kept crashing.) To resolve this problem, I did a system restore which brought the laptop back to its original state. Then, I updated drivers and the BIOS using Dell's own update software - "Dell Update." Once this was done, I attempted again to install the latest display drivers from Nvidia, and the Geforce Experience software. This time, after trying out a few games I had no problems. Suffice to say, before installing anything I suggest running Dell Update first.Build Quality, Keyboard, TrackpadOverall, the outside of the laptop feels good with soft-touch plastics on key areas. The laptop opens and closes nicely, though there is some noticeable flexing in the housing of the screen. However, the keyboard of this laptop does not feel very good at all. The keystroke is very shallow - so you don't get that tactile feel. And because of that, I've mistyped more often on this keyboard than any of my other laptops. (To be fair though, most other laptops in this price range have similar keyboards that aren't very tactile.) The trackpad works well enough for websurfing, but the tap features often caused me to click on things I didn't want to. (You can turn off the tap function, and rely only on the standard firm-click instead.) Suffice to say, I would suggest getting a separate keyboard and mouse whenever using the 7559.ScreenThe IPS display that comes with the 7559 is good enough for gaming, but not for graphics-related work. The colors seem a bit off, even after adjusting them. Also, compared to a professional workstation monitor, the sharpness is not quite the same. For gaming though, it works well, and there is no ghosting, or weird artifacts. Thankfully, Dell includes an HDMI out so that you can output the video to a separate monitor. (You can of course get a much higher resolution monitor for the 7559, but only on Dell's own website - and only if you customize it yourself.)AudioThe speakers on the 7559 are fairly cheap sounding. I would say they are on par with small PC speakers that sell for about $10-$15. And although it does have a subwoofer, I would say that the bass response is lackluster. You're better off using your own headphones - which is what I do. I personally have it paired with my V-moda Crossfade Wireless bluetooth headphones - and the audio sounds great. (The 7559 does have the standard audio jack for a physical connection of course.)BatteryIn my experience, the 7559's battery does not last very long. When gaming, I can get around 2 hours out of a full charge. When watching streaming video, the 7559 lasts around 4 hours. Surfing the internet and working on text documents lasts a little longer - at about 4.5 hours in my experience. I've taken it on short trips playing about an hour or so of gaming, and internet surfing afterwards - this usually gets me around 3 hours of use. But if I were to take it on a long trip, I would definitely have a 2nd fully-charged battery ready-to-go.Heat - tolerableThe center of the keyboard, and the left side of the laptop often get warm during gaming. It's nowhere near as warm as other laptops that I've used so it doesn't bother me. (During non-gaming sessions, these spots remain cool.)UpgradingThe Dell 7559 was designed to be upgraded easily. The bottom panel of the laptop can be removed by undoing just one screw. Once it's opened up, you'll find that the SSD, the RAM, and the HDD can easily be upgraded. The RAM is very easy to upgrade since this laptop has two slots for RAM modules - one of which was already taken up by an 8GB module. I bought another 8gb module (DDR3 laptop memory) from Amazon (about $25) and placed it in the extra slot - for a total of 16gb. It took about 5 minutes to do it - very easy! Other users have added a 256gb or even a 500gb SSD into the included M.2 slot - in addition to having the 1TB Hybrid HDD. Doing so will increase the speed at start up, as well as any games or applications that are installed on the SSD.Dead Pixel! - and Warranty serviceUnfortunately, my laptop developed a dead pixel right in the center of the screen. It was very annoying since I only had this laptop for a few months. I tried several downloadable apps and videos that claimed they could fix the issue (by flashing the screen for several hours.) None of these things worked. After several days of chatting with Dell tech support they offered me two options: send it in to their repair depot for about two weeks to have it fixed; or pay $40 for an on-site repair. I chose the 2nd option since I didn't want to be without a laptop for two weeks. The bad thing is, the part that they needed to replace (I assume the LCD) was delayed, and there was no word on when it would come in. After about 2 weeks of checking back with Dell; they offered to instead replace my laptop with a refurbished unit they already had on-hand. I was tired of waiting, so I chose this option. The refurbished unit worked perfectly fine, and it was exactly the same model. My main gripe in all of this was that the whole process took too long to resolve - about a month. If they had offered me a refurbished unit from the start, it would have been much easier. Also, it became clear that the repair depot people and the people who sent me the refurbished laptop do not talk to each other - since the people at the repair depot kept asking me to send in the laptop to be repaired.ConclusionIn all honesty, this is the 2nd laptop that I've bought that had a dead pixel - and Dell did a good job handling it - though it took a while due to the parts being on back-order. The other laptop that I had a dead pixel issue with was from HP - and it took about 3 weeks to get that resolved. I guess I must have bad luck because I don't see anyone else complaining about dead pixels in their reviews of this laptop. Regardless, I do recommend this laptop for its low price and good gaming performance. Most games run well, though not on highest settings. It's also very easily-up-gradable Just hope that you don't get a laptop with dead pixel(s) like I did.

    ***UPDATE 5/17/2016******

After having this for more than a month now, using it daily, with the added SSD and RAM, I am very happy. It starts lightning fast, last BIOS time was 8.0 seconds which is fantastic. Overall I think this is a great looking laptop, I really like the black with red accents, and love the rubber like texture. It does not show fingerprints for me, I've seen a review or two that complain about that, maybe greasy hands??. The keyboard is quiet, responsive, and overall just works well. The screen is plenty bright, most times I have the setting at 50% brightness and it's more than adequate. I have not used the HDMI port yet, but do plan to eventually have a dual screen setup, as of now I just don't have the space. This is the first laptop i've owned with a lighted keyboard, which I really like, and seems to work well.

I have used it for a small amount of recording with Presonus Studio One 3 Artist, with an AudioBox USB interface. I can get latency down to about 6ms and that's imperceptible to most people. It handles anything I've thrown at it with ease, mostly staying at about 10-20% CPU performance. Thats running about 5-6 tracks, a few effect and VCA busses, and some direct insert effects. I guess Dell sorta markets this a gaming laptop, albeit a cheaper one, but a lot of the gaming laptops i've looked at compare quite closely to this, usually have 16gb ram already installed, and a higher end graphics card etc, while some don't even have as good a processor, and sometimes have an i5 instead. A similar MSI will cost a least a few hundred dollars more. I think this is a powerhouse computer in sheep's clothing, and a fantastic value, just MHO. If you're in the market for a solid laptop with an awesome feature set and processor, this is definitely worth considering.

I purchased this less than a month ago, not from amazon, but wanted to leave a review here anyway. I have the i7559-2512BLK 15.6 Inch FHD Laptop (6th Generation Intel Core i7, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD + 8 GB SSD) NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M.

I wanted the best processor I could afford in a new machine. I knew I wasn't going to use it for gaming, but instead I needed a fast laptop for music recording software. When you start running plug-ins, multiple inputs, a bunch of tracks, effects etc,it can bog down a processor quickly. I knew I would add an SSD drive, and more ram, so that was less of a consideration when I decided. I was looking at some core i5 laptops, but figure the quad core i7 would just about guarantee it would handle anything I threw at it.

I also liked that it had an 1x8gb ram chip, so I could just add another, and not need to buy two new 8gb chips. I added a Samsung 850 EVO M.2 250gb SSD, and I love that this laptop has an M.2 slot for another drive, makes it easy to keep plenty of storage. I use the SSD drive for my OS and music software, and kept the original 1tb HDD for storage, pics and music etc. So now I have 16gb ram, with a 256gb SSD drive, and a back up 1tb HDD, Full hi-def screen, 4gb graphics card, and a top notch i7 processor.

It now runs super quick, and starts up in seconds. together, both cost me about 130$ from amazon, and it was money well spent for the upgrade. The funny thing is, the specs on my laptop now, mirror many of the gaming laptops costing a lot more, but maybe are missing a feature or two, usually an optical drive, or touch screen. The good bones are there though, and for a lot less money.

I like the look and feel of this laptop, and kinda like the black w/ red accents. Some don't seem to like it, but I do.

So far I am very happy with this. My one complaint would be no optical drive, but an external drive is cheap enough and fits right in my laptop bag, so not a deal breaker.

It all depends on what your looking for in a new laptop. this one fit the bill for me, and the price was very good. If this particular setup works for you, its a great laptop for the money, and the i7-6700HQ chip is a great processor, that has a benchmark score of over 8000, which is double most core i5 processors. This will also work for most gamers, except probably the most serious of them, and a lot of times, they run desktops anyway.

Running Studio One with 4 tracks of audio, multiple effects on each track, and the CPU never went over 10% on the performance monitor. Which shows the kind of processor it is. IMO, it's the all important factor. A disc drive is cheap and easy to change, and most people do these days to SS drives, RAM can really only go so high, and is only so useful after 16gb. But a bad processor will make all the other parts irelevent, when doing anything that really tests performance.

5.0 out of 5 stars After adding an SSD and more ram, it now mirrors the specs of many $1500-2000 gaming laptops for a lot less money!!!!

I spent weeks evaluating options for a laptop that would meet my somewhat demanding performance needs, as well as not break the bank in the process. So far I am VERY satisfied that this was the right choice for me. Because everyone has a unique usage profile, I am starting my review with a bit of perspective on what was important to my buying decision. Hopefully, this will help you determine if this review is relevant to you.

How I intend to use this laptop --
    - I am primarily using this to run photo and video editing software (Lr, Ps, Sony Vegas, etc) so raw processing and decent GPU performance is a prerequisite
    - I also use music editing software (FL Studio, Audacity) which can also be quite processor-dependent
    - Above apps are primarily run on my desktop, which is an i7 w/16GB and GPU. My laptop is used each day while I commute on the train to/from the office, and while away from home
    - 4k display would be a nice-to-have, but I believe the screen size would not lend itself to editing raw 4k footage. I'll wait a few years for a comparable 4k display option

Why I chose this option --
    - Granted, this unit packs the 6th generation i7, not the 7th. I'm OK with that. The incremental performance gain didn't seem to warrant the $100+ in cost
    - The GPU, while good, is not the Nvidia 10-series. That is also OK. I did not purchase this laptop to run games in 1920x1080. As a matter of fact, I am not going to run games at all. This is the conundrum for me as a power user of multimedia apps. Everything today is spec'd out for game play, which doesn't necessarily translate to performance with Photoshop or music / DAW applications. I decided to err on the side of value here. In reality, the GTX 960M w/4GB is quite capable, and will support tasks such as video rendering and playback.
    - The IPS HD display is gorgeous. It's anti-glare surface is bright, crisp and reproduces colors quite nicely.
    - Most importantly, I chose value. I could have spent MUCH more than $799 and realized very little in performance gain. Let the others clamor for the bleeding edge. I'm inclined to find that ideal spot between performance and cost.

My impression is after a few weeks of use --
    - (very good) Performance is great with video and image rendering / process times considerably better than my i7-2600 3.40 GHz desktop w/16GB
    - (great) IPS display is really nice even in bright ambient lighting
    - (great) Build quality and feel of casing is well done. I was able to easily upgrade
    Crucial 8GB Single DDR3L 1600 MT/s (PC3L-12800) SODIMM 204-Pin Laptop Memory (CT102464BF160B)  to 16GB with one screw and a few panel snaps
    - (great) It's quiet.. I rarely hear the fan kick up
    - (good) Sound quality is decent, but then I primarily use quality headphones or external USB3 instrument interface
    - (OK) Touchpad is a bit sensitive at times, and needs a bit of getting used to

Overall, I give this laptop high marks for the application I am using it for. Again, I am not a gamer, but am willing to let my little guy give it a whirl with Overwatch (assuming he can pry it from my hands). This is a nice solution for an affordable multimedia machine.

UPDATE: Search out "Fstoppers a depressing comparison between new kaby lake MacBook Pro and Four other windows laptops" - in this article (published June '17), they compare the new MacBook and Surface Book, HP Zbook, Dell XPS 15, and the older Dell Inspiron 15 (this one). Not surprisingly, this inexpensive option held it's own VERY well vs. laptops costing 3X the price. This is especially true testing video rendering times head-to-head. I highly recommend reading this if you are on the bubble in terms of deciding one of these other options.

5.0 out of 5 stars La mejor inversión para los diseñadores gráficos y gamers
Reviewed in Mexico on January 18, 2017
