One of the World's-First Sound Bars with 7.1.2-Channel Multi-Dimensional Sound

True Surround Sound from a Single Unit

Beautifully designed with 44 precisely calculated and positioned beam drivers and two woofers, the YSP-5600 effectively creates 7-channel sound beams (front left/right, center, surround left/right, height left/right). Using Yamaha Digital Sound Projector technology, each speaker is controlled by individual delay times and is driven with its own independent amplifier circuit. These beams are projected onto the walls and ceiling, and reflected to the listening position. In addition, the YSP-5600 uses the surround channel sound beam for surround back to support 7.1.2-channel Dolby Atmos or DTS:X reproduction.

The First Sound Bar to Create Height Channels

The height channels are created by placing six array speakers on each end of the unit (a total of 12). For the maximum sound beam effect, they are mounted on an angled baffle with sound beam vertical control. The result is realistic sound field reproduction with true height, as if real speakers were mounted on the ceiling. You get great sound without having to mount ceiling speakers or run speaker wire.

Support for the Latest Surround Format, Dolby Atmos

Enter a new world of sound with Dolby Atmos. It transports you from an ordinary moment into an extraordinary experience with captivating, multidimensional sound that fills your room with amazing richness and depth. Music, people, and objects come alive in breathtaking detail and flow in precise choreography all around you, making you feel like you are truly there. The combination of Dolby Atmos and the YSP-5600 will fill the room with multidimensional sound that makes you feel as if you are right in the middle of the story unfolding on the screen.

Support for the Latest Surround Format, DTS:X

DTS:X is the next generation object-based, multi-dimensional audio technology from DTS.

Unbound from channels, DTS:X conveys the fluid movement of sound to create an incredibly rich, realistic and immersive soundscape - in front of, behind, beside and above the audience - more accurately than ever before. The combination of DTS:X and the YSP-5600 will fill the room with multidimensional sound that makes you feel as if you are right in the middle of the story unfolding on the screen.

DTS:X playback capability will be available via a future firmware update.

MusicCast

MusicCast makes it easy to bring music to every room in your home wirelessly with playback controlled by a simple app. Start with a MusicCast Sound Bar then add a MusicCast capable AV receiver in your main entertainment room for the ultimate home theater experience, next add MusicCast Wireless Speakers or Hi-Fi components in other rooms wirelessly.

All Your Content

MusicCast allows you to access your digital music library, streaming music services and Internet radio, as well as Bluetooth sources and external sources attached to your Sound Bar, such as a Blu-ray disc player or CD player.

Bluetooth

MusicCast products from Yamaha support Bluetooth as an input or as an output. Stream any audio via Bluetooth from your smartphone or tablet and play it on a single MusicCast device or multiple MusicCast devices in linked playback mode. MusicCast devices can also stream out to a Bluetooth speaker or headphones.

Full Support of 4K60p and HDCP 2.2

The YSP-5600 supports the latest HDMI standards. Thanks to transmission of 4K video at 60 frames per second pass-through, you can enjoy full high-definition video quality of 4K without degradation. It also adheres to the HDCP 2.2 copyright protection standard for 4K video transmission.

This one rules them all
5 Stars
This one rules them all
For specific applications, this is currently the best sound solution today. Instead of trying to trick your brain into hearing things coming from around you by manipulating the audio, it uses a large array of small speakers to form beams of sound and bounce them off nearby walls. This is very different from the other bars, because the sound actually *is* coming from areas other than the speaker. To me that is both a cool application of technology, and a great way to distribute sound without filling a room with speakers. It is expensive, to be sure, but you could spend that much buying an AV Receiver and several speakers. I say "could" because this sound bar does not come with a subwoofer, and it needs one. It also doesn't come with the wireless subwoofer link, the Yamaha SWK-W16 Wireless Subwoofer Kit. If you want to wall mount it, and you will (more on that in a minute), you'll need the Yamaha Corporation of America SPMK30 Mounting Installation Bracket. By the time you've purchased all this, you are in deep, so keep that in mind before clicking that Buy it Now button. In terms of overall sound quality, it is far better than you would expect, and at times very surprising, depending on the material you are playing through it. It is much better for movies and television than music, though it certainly works for both. The Airplay feature is great for me because I can very easily stream music to it from my iPhone or iPad right to the bar. It also has Bluetooth, so if you have other brands of phone, you can use that instead. Airplay is a lossless technology, however, so use that if you have the option as it will sound better that way. A good surround system, with upward-firing Atmos speakers will beat it, but then you've got black boxes all over the room, with accompanying wires. For a home theater room, that will work fine. For a den or living room? Not so much.In my case, this is installed in a major room in my house, that is visible upon entering the house, and it is important to me that it look neat, comfortable, and more like a den than a home theater. If I want to sit down and talk with someone over coffee, this is the room for it. I want the ability to watch movies when I want to, play music, or just sit around watching the fire in the fireplace, or some combination of that. I don't want the AV equipment and television to dominate the room, and this bar has enabled me to accomplish that goal in a very nice way.I'll attach some pictures showing how I did this. It wasn't hard, but it was very well planned, and I took my time and did it right. This sound bar is massive. The term large just doesn't quite cover it. Even if you make a cardboard mockup before you buy it (and I encourage you to do so), you will still be shocked when you pull this heavy thing out of the box. It reminds me of a black floor joist. It is very heavy, but the Yamaha mount for it is made of steel, and has several places to put in screws. I used eight screws in mine, six with anchors, and two into wall studs, so I know it isn't going anywhere.Because it is so big, you cannot put this in front of your television - it will block the bottom of the screen. You can get around this by buying a stand to raise your television up like this Universal Tabletop TV Stand with Swivel and Height Adjustable, but that just seems visually messy to me. If at all possible, you should wall mount both your television and the sound bar. That will give you the cleanest look, but will take more work. The wireless subwoofer kit is well worth buying. It will allow you to put your powered subwoofer anywhere there is an electrical outlet, without worrying about running a wire to the sound bar. After a few false starts trying to pair it to the sound bar, I got it to connect, and now it just works. I did buy a better audio cable for it, as the one that comes with that is one of those little skinny black plastic cables that manufacturers throw in for free.Is it worth it? If you have a space that needs it, absolutely. If your space doesn't need it? Then it mostly comes down to personal preference. I like how my installation turned out so much that I wouldn't mind having this in every room that has a large television in it, even a dedicated media room. But, appearance is important to me, and I find the clean look it provides to be very calming.I don't often give a product five stars. After all, nothing is perfect, including this. In this case, however, it is well-earned.Highly recommended.Sean Logue, 2016
