I had to get a new tablet as my previous tablet (a 7 inch, 4GB, Polaroid) fritzed on me a little over a month ago and it happened the day before I got internet installed at my house, again! The charge port fritzed when I plugged it in one night and the screen got all stripe-y and weird. After that the tablet worked, but it would not charge unless I plugged my charger at a certain angle (tilted); this was very irritating. I got so frustrated with it that I handled it rough a few times and eventually it would barely remain on and THEN one day it wouldn't even turn on! I opened it up and saw what I believe is the cell battery's wiring disconnected! Long story short, I had to get a new tablet.
I really like this tablet because even though I did like my Polaroid and the price difference if not huge (the Polaroid was about $17 less), this RCA seems to be of somewhat higher quality with more elements. My Polaroid had one camera which was only useful for selfies, had no Bluetooth (which blew my mind; I have seen free government-issued phones that have Bluetooth!), only 4GB (which makes you REALLY watch your storage usage like a fiend) and loaded kind of slowly. But this RCA tablet has dual cameras, Bluetooth, 32GB (in a device that's under $100!) and thanks to the quad core the processor works swiftly (I notice a clear difference in how quickly browser pages and apps loaded; this RCA is swift).
I really like the external keyboard and how sturdy it is. I also appreciate the 10 inch screen. Quite a nice change from a 7 inch. The overall look of this tablet is quietly clean and straightforward. I was pleasantly surprised to find that this tablet also has apparently two charge ports, an HDMI port and a USB port. I hope that this tablet allows for transfer of files via the USB port. The Polaroid, which did not have a USB port so I had to use a USB connector via the one charge port, did not transfer files and its "Move To" feature in the files manager did not work. I might still keep my old tablet as a back-up and get it fixed one day as I don't think anyone else (when I used to think I'd sell it 'As Is' for cheap) would be too willing to spend money to repair something that they can use that same money (or less) to buy a new tablet.
My only issue is the grainy camera. Not the best quality, but that is to be expected of a device that's not expensive. I like this tablet so well so far that I don't really care.
All in all, a great device for the price!
Update (Sept. 27, 2016): Still works great and I continue to be very pleased!
Pros - nice detachable keyboard pretty sturdy
- Has a full size USB port - can run a mouse or flash drive or charge your fitbit off of it
- micro SD port - I already installed a 200GB micro SD to hold all his games and pictures and music ( There is you tube videos by RCA showing you how to transfer files - Great! You could run an external hard drive it will recognize it but why bother when they have 200 GB micro SD cards.
- loaded in the free MS Word app from Google play store ( works just like office word because it is office word!) - Tested the printing - as long as you have a wi-fi printer this worked great.
Not Pro Not Con -
- Battery life - I got 4 - 5 hours before it was down to 25% So I guess if you let it run all the way down you get 6 hours. However if your running something with a lot of graphics which is most games expect 4 hours of play time.
UPDATE 12-12-16 took this on a trip plane ride was 4 hours. Only got 3 hours on it before the low battery came on. When I got home I plugged it in to charge and it said it will take 10 hours to fully charge but it only took 4 hours.
Cons - Speakers are not that great but for the money they do the job
- Slow on loading up but I'm spoiled I'm Running an SSD on my computer so again for the price range it does well.
- Settings is kind of buried in all the notifications you swipe down from the top to get to setting but you have to get through all the notifications before it setting box opens. In other words swipe all the way down to the bottom of the screen to get what you want.
- screen is NOT gorilla glass So I suggested to my friend to get a screen protector. there was 2 fine scratches on the screen right out of the box and I only noticed them at a certain angle. Still something to be aware of,
Bottom line for the money this is a great little tablet/laptop. In fact I like it so much I'm getting one for myself to use as a kick around tablet/laptop.
I bought this primarily to read books and comics on. The pixel density, at 150 ppi, is not stellar. If the print is really small, such as viewing a full page in portrait, it can get slightly fuzzed. Occasionally, edges of images will show some pixelation. None of this diminishes my enjoyment enough to go down to 3 stars.
Update: Still enjoying the tablet quite a lot. Have probably read several hundred comics, scores of magazines, etc. Does the job nicely. A word of advice though, you'll want to immediately buy a screen protector because this thing scratches at a harsh word. I have babied it since I got it, and there are already multiple large, noticeable scratches in the screen. They might even be hairline cracks. Screen glass is probably the lowest quality thing about this tablet. Still, got it for $80 so I guess you get what you pay for. Still 4 stars.
