Sturdy, Colorful, Perfect Size, and Very Educating Pocket Guide

Sturdy, Colorful, Perfect Size, and Very Educating Pocket Guide
As a homeschool family we love little sturdy pocket guides. Each tree is named, then lists its proper name, average size and key facts describing it's needles, cones, flowers, fruit and usual location. Along with a one sentence summary is a real in color picture of the whole tree and a colorful drawing of it's leaves or other upclose details. Followed by a one paragraph description. Book is well organized and has a easy to use index at the back of the book. We found this very helpful to teach our children [and ourselves!] about the differences in identifying trees as we hiked [and even drove] around our city.Pros:Small enough for your back pocketStill large enough to readSturdy cover and hard pagesColorful [including the inside cover with quick examples of different classifications of tree leaves]

I love to know what the trees and plants are called . My mom and dad taught us all the common ones and some of the less common. With this guide you can easily find names and species of all the trees you come across.

I also have a Peterson’s Field Guide for trees, which gives more information about each entry and actually has more trees shown than the National Geographic book.

This series is books are our absolute favorite. My 8-10 year old boys love them. We have all 8 in the set. I can not recommend them enough. I wish they had more like these.

I was interested in being able to identify local trees not being from the US originally. This little book is an excellent reference. 👌

When you find the tree you're looking for, this guide has good information on trees.

But, finding what you're looking for is not so easy. The intro says that gymnosperms (conifers) are covered first, then angiosperms. That's fine, but there is no info at all as to how things are arranged inside of those sections. (It's almost as if something were cut from the intro, as it starts out "The guide is organized in several ways" but then only describes the major breakdown.

But this means if I see a tree I want to identify, I have to look through many pages to find what I'm looking for. It really needs better organization within the major sections.
