Soft Laundry Without the Softener

We haven't used fabric softener for several years as I have a breathing disorder. Our laundry was not very soft when it came out of the dryer. Using these dryer balls has changed all of that. The laundry is noticeably softer including the towels. The clothes are getting dryer sooner too. We had been using all six balls but have since gone to four as it doesn't seem to need all six. You notice the sound of the dryer balls in the dryer, but it's not real loud. It's more like a background noise. I do notice now when the dryer shuts off and go and get my laundry out. Before we got these dryer balls I would forget my laundry in the dryer and have to go back and fluff them. So they are saving me money on the electric bill in two ways. I intend to get some for my family as presents; they are cute and do a good job!

These actually work really well. I have a big HE washer and a big dryer and it still works very well and no static getting the clothes out at all. I usually use two dryer sheets and still static. I was so tired of adding all the chemicals and then not working. I did not really think these would work, but I have been more than happy with them. The towels were the first thing my husband noticed because now the towels just soaked up more water after a shower, as good as drying them outside without the scratch at all. Now there is absolutely no smell to your clothes and if you do miss that I have tried essential oils which works well also and it doesn't get oil spots on your clothes at all. I have noticed that they also do help the clothes dry a little faster and less wrinkles. I do tons of laundry and I am positive these little things will help me save money just alone by not buying fabric softener and dryer sheets. A while ago I had to have a repair man come in and he said either people use to much laundry soap and or fabric softener and they shorten the life of any washer. This is why I was looking for a way not to use fabric softener or vinegar in my washer any longer. This is a perfect solution.

We cloth diapered our children years ago and I had read back then about the virtues of vinegar in place of fabric softener and the magic of dryer balls. I hate the smell of vinegar and...dryer balls in place of my decades-long relationship with Downy?!? Really??? Nope. I wasn't sold and passed.

Fast-forward several years. Our old washer was replaced with an HE washer and the laundry trouble began slowly to rear it's ugly head. In desperation, we reverted back to the cloth diapering laundry routine. Vinegar? Dryer balls? Voodoo? Dunk-n-swish? Black magic? Insence and saiances? Yep, we were all-in!

These dryer balls are fantastic and do everything they claim, and other reviewers backed up. I can't compare them to other dryer balls since these are my first. But, we dumped the tide and the Downy and went back to the green detergent we used for the diapers and tried the vinegar and dryer balls combo. We're converts.

Yes, you can hear them knocking around softly in the dryer. The additional noise is hardly noticeable. Zippers hitting the dryer are many, many times louder. As long as you don't overcook your laundry, there is almost no static. Synthetic fabrics will always cause more static trouble. I haven't had these long enough to speak to the long-term effects on our laundry. Clothes are definitely getting dryer faster. Right now, I am really happy.

If you aren't having any misgivings with your current laundry routine, then these (or any) balls probably won't do much for you. However, if you are looking to change things up, then I highly recommend these! It also does make me happy that I have been able to switch to a more environmentally-friendly way to get laundry done well.

These wool dryer balls are effective and so cute! I bought the version with little sheep faces. I was first introduced to wool dryer balls in Washington state, because of the humidity there it was difficult and time consuming/expensive to get linens really dry during the fall/winter months.
After I returned to Utah’s dry climate I didn’t think I needed them anymore. Fast forward two Australian Shepherds later and I was desperately looking for something to get all the hair off clothes/linens in the dryer.
These work spectacularly!! And as an added bonus they cut drying time as well, make clothes softer and fluff linens (no more tennis balls needed with your down comforters).

I have always used either fabric softener sheets or the dreaded liquid softener for many years....it always irked me that even though I got my clothes clean, I was adding chemicals to soften them. It was extremely well-packaged and came with a couple sets of well-written instructions for usage. The six wool balls themselves have a look and feel of exceptional high quality and are quite solid. I’ve had the plastic dryer balls and cheaper wool versions but my goodness are these worth the price.
