I wanted something reliable, durable, not complicated, easy to use and clean, and I did not want to pay a fortune.
I was tired of the hassle of measuring coffee grounds, messing with paper filters, dumping the coffee grounds, and then cleaning the coffee carafe and wiping down the coffee maker, all for a single cup of coffee.
I love my French Press, but that still requires measuring out coffee grounds, heating up a specific amount of water, dumping the grounds, and cleaning out the glass carafe, and all for one cup of coffee.
I spent a year looking at different brands of single serving coffee makers that would be compatible with a k-cup or pod. I read a multitude of different reviews and opinions, started making a list of possibilities, and then eliminated some and added others.
Finally, I took a chance on the new Keurig K15 model, placed my order, and crossed my fingers.
The Keurig K15 is fast and efficient, easy to use, and makes a great cup of coffee. Due to the option of adding 6 – 10 oz. of water, it provides the ability to brew a strong or weaker flavor.
No cleanup is required, other than removing the used K-Cup. When I have a guest at the house, I now always offer them a cup of coffee, and it’s not necessarily due to correct etiquette, it’s mostly because the Keurig is fun to operate.
Just one additional note: This machine does NOT come with a reusable k-cup filter. However, the Keurig My K-Cup Reusable Coffee Filter (Single) – is compatible with this model.
I have submitted a short video, from start to finish on easy the Keurig K15 is easy to use, the coffee is light in color because I’m brewing a light colored Pumpkin Spice cappuccino.
UPDATE: 9 MONTHS LATER - FEBRUARY 2017
I went away for a few days and when I came back; my Keurig seemed to have stopped working. I could hear the water heating, but the water refused to come out. Since we have hard water, I figured that the Keurig might need descaling. I checked on-line for some coffee pot descaling solution; however, 3 thoughts put me off.
1. The chemical solution is expensive
2. I didn’t want to wait to until I would finally receive it
3. I don’t like using any chemical solution in a food/beverage appliance
Therefore, I emptied out the water and poured one cup of white vinegar into the water tank. Restarted my Keurig – but nothing happened any differently, and nothing came out through the spout.
I left the ‘heated’ white vinegar in the Keurig for half an hour and then tried it again. This time the liquid gushed out with full force. Then I ran some more water through it, just to rinse away any smell or taste of leftover white vinegar. My Keurig now works as well as it did on the first day, as it just needed descaling. The white vinegar is a perfect method for this task, just let it heat and remain in the Keurig for about ½ an hour and try it again. White vinegar works perfectly as a descale agent, without any chemical additions, it’s inexpensive, it’s fast and easy to do, and my Keurig still performs as well as did it when it was brand new.
