Leatherman multi tool is the toughest, handiest on the body tool ever!

This is the greatest on the body tool ever invented. I had originally owned a Leatherman multi tool since 2001, I wore it every day and I have to say that I believe that I found a use for it every day whether at work, camping or relaxing at home, it was my go to tool! I still had the original leather case even though it was seriously shoeing its age. A friend told me " you better get a new case for that thing!" and I knew he was right but it was an emotional attachment that cost me my old friend. I had gone hiking that day looking for a certain spot on State game land and several other out of the way places, I went to reach for my old friend and it was gone! I combed the places using my Garmin Fortrex to no avail. Alas! I had to opt for one of the new guys on the block, I still feel bad for the old one but I have to say, the new one The Rebar that I have is a better tool mainly because everything locks. It seems lighter but somehow just as tough, I think because this one seems somewhat smaller. The pliers are better because you can really cut hardened wire! What ever Leatherman did, it worked. I opted for the leather sheath out of nostalgia but will keep an eye on it, at the earliest sign of wear I will replace it with a nylon one.

I carry the Leatherman Wave for work and used to carry the Kick in my fly fishing vest. I purchased the Rebar to replace the Kick, as the Kick did not have a saw. I like to use a long stick to check the depth of the water on the river I am wading into when fly fishing. The saw will definitely help cut a fallen branch for this purpose. The replaceable hardened steel wire cutters will also come in handy to cut fishing hooks, when the unfortunate fishing accident happens, (and it has in the past). The Rebar was a bit stiff when I received it, but a little oil and working all the pivot points back and forth for a short time, it loosened up to the point of comfort. This tool has all the features needed to maintain a fly reel and gear on the water. Small and large flat blade screwdrivers, phillips head screwdriver, metal file for sharpening hooks, pliers, and knife blades for cutting line. Of course there is more to this tool than that, but those were the bare necessities I was looking for in a multi-tool. The Rebar exceeds my requirements and is well worth the purchase!

First off id like to say I'm no multi-tool expert by any means, i collect knives an such but really just wanted something that wouldnt break the bank but at the same time was a quality tool. Now that being said heres a little pros and cons after the first week.

Pros:
for the most part very solid construction with a little give in some areas but thats not to big a deal.
The saw works wonderfully, the file is perfect for shaping and cutting, the wire cutters are strong and chomp down along with the needle nose and pliers having a very good even grip.
The leather sheath is great and fits snug on my belt loop and the rest of the tool is fairly decent and comfy.
Cons:
I noticed right away that is a bit difficult to open and close and sometimes i pinch myself on it but with every tool that'll change.
On the other hand of having it being a little stiff, i was a little frusrtsted while using the dowel or punch which ever youd call it. When i open up the side with the dowel and go to close the rest of the tool to get a good grip, the pliers jam inbetween the pair of screw drivers and it gets scratched and nicked which what ever tools have wear an tear but its definitely a negative.
My last thing on this is the blade, as ive said before i collect knives and mostly higher quality ones and i look for weak metals and make sure i stay away. This particular one at first seemed very sturdy and sharp as a razor but after some basic whiddling of some fallen branches outside my work place i took a closer look at the edge of the blade closer towards the heal and it has little mini dings and dents in it and i thought wow thats pretty disapointing considering i was only working with wood.

Great midsize multitool

I use mine regularly for the pliers, several days a week for the can opener. Leatherman is a trusted brand with me. I really appreciate that this one came with a leather sheath. I carry it on my side every day, including at work doing commercial construction, and the sheath has really held up for over 6 months now. I have some 550 cord strung through its belt loop, and a carabiner through that so I can just clip it to my belt loop. I much prefer this carry method to having it directly on my belt. This model is highly recommended as being both lighter and considerably less expensive than larger models without giving up much utility imho. At some point you actually need "real" tools, this is just a backup/catchall for when you don't have a better tool for the job when it presents itself.
