Mine was clearly used when I got it, I'll upload the video when possible. That being said I decided to keep in because my local place charges an insane amount 4:50 small - $9 for a larger cycle. I'd spend 30-50 every time I'd visit the wash and dry for a few loads because the machines were terrible and the dryers were even worse). I'm very pleased with it. If you use tide/strong detergent it works wonderfully for larger loads. I'm talking regular large loads, multiple pairs of shirts and pants 10-16 pieces of adult medium/large women's clothing, or 3 pairs of sheets etc or 4 - 6 towels. The machine works best with medium or large loads. I think it makes more noise when it was more water than clothing, so a tiny load isn't great but it works. My methods use a lot of water not sure how it will work with limited water, OR another type of detergent. If this doesn't work with other types of detergent I strongly suggest trying Tide, it is a very powerful cleaner.
How I do my laundry:
1) I fill the machine up with clothing to about 70 -80% full. Then I take the clothing out before adding water (to make sure I don't put to much clothing in).
2) 2-4 minute of washing for a pre rinse and then drain (you don't have to fully drain I do mine after it goes through 2 steps of drainage- a. easy drainage full blast b. then it starts to making a sound due to less water. I turn it off once it seems like "it's straining" which I doubt it is but since I'm adding more water it doesn't need to be dryer ready.
3) I fill up my tide measuring cup to 4 bars. Make sure the drain hose is in upward position/ off. Add water about 1/3 to 1/2 of the machine length, turn off water. Then add detergent 2 out of the 4 bars of detergent, mix it in the water.
3) Add all the clothing, then put water back on; fill up until the clothing is mostly covered then add the rest of the detergent and hand mix to make sure the detergent gets spread out over the top. You have to keep an eye on the water levels if doing large loads. The machine has an over flow if you add too much water- you'll know you start to hear a "leaking sound". What you're hearing is an overflow which ends up at first underneath and if it's really overflowing it'll enter into the spin dry section. You can easily let out/drain the water if it's too much by using gravity to let out a little water.
4) put on wash cycle for 15 minutes
5) when timer goes off, open the lid and rotate the clothing from the bottom of the washer so that it sits at the top, and all the clothing that was on top is now on the bottom, so that all the clothing swap positions. I literally do a scooping motion and just flip the bundle. Do a "scent test" if the clothing that was on the bottom of the machine smells clean the load is fine you have got the detergent ratio right, go ahead and wash the load for another 15 minutes. Drain the water after these "2 wash cycles." Drain it the same way from the prerinse
6) Do a rinse cycle. Fill the machine up again, run the washer for 2-5 minutes. If the detergent ratio is too much you'll realize it in the phase. ***you can't skip this step*** when I forget I always notice that the clothing has detergent after the rinse, which makes it feel tacky or grimy. You have to rinse out all the detergent or you get this dirty feeling from having too much soap.
7) drain the water- this is the last drainage so you have to let it go until no water is coming out of the drain hose.
8) put the clothing in the spin dryer. Mine is powerful enough that at the moment 1.5 minutes is more than enough. It doesn't really do much after the first 30-40 seconds. If you don't have a lot of clothing in the spin cycle it was wobble around and make a ton of noise. I usually fill mine as much as possible and put the little topper on - that white topper is an absolute necessity don't lose it or the dry cycle is insanely loud. With the large loads I hold the washer down for 10-20 seconds until it starts to spin quickly then calms down. I let it go another minute or so then when/if it starts to make noise/ move in the last 10-20 seconds I hold it down again.
9) let the spin cycle completely stop on its own- if you open the top there seems to be safety mechanism that attempts to quickly stop the cycle- i'm guessing it's made of plastic and can break with use. So let the machine take that 30 seconds to come to a full halt.
10) remove "dried" clothing, do next batch of wet, I usually fill up the little spin dryer as much as possible and end up doing 2 or 3 spin cycles. I then put the clothing on a hanger and let it air dry. Some clothing dries quickly, something like towels depends on your area. I live in new york and my apartment /temp is currently good enough to 100-85% air drying often overnight usually everything within 24hrs.
I have to say I have been impressed so far! It holds more laundry than I anticipated (about 1/3 a normal size load) though I have been careful not to overload it and stress the machine. The agitator is powerful and removes way more dirt than our community laundry machines (makes me feel a little gross about what we've been wearing)!
I did about 13-14 loads of laundry yesterday, so I feel like I've got a pretty good feel for what this little machine can do. The set up was super easy once I figured out where to put it. The inlet hose for our bathroom sink perfectly, though I have read other users had issues with the fit. I simply ran the drain hose into our toilet (after a good bleach down, of course).
I chose to use the spin/rinse features together rather than rinsing in the agitator side. This worked perfectly! I set the spin timer for 3 minutes and ran the water into that side for about two them turned it off and let the rest spin out for about a minute. The clothes came out super clean and about 75% dry.
I don't have many complaints about this washer, but here are a few things to mention...
If you are doing several loads in a row (like more than about 3) you will need to give the pump time to cool off a little because it struggles a little bit when it gets too warm. I did notice that occasionally on the spin cycle I had to encourage the pump to get started by shaking the drain hose a little to help the water start to flow, but then it would get started and drain no problem.
One that note. You do not need to manually turn on the "drain" option during the spin cycle it turns on automatically for that side only! You do still need to manually turn the drain option on to remove water from the agitator side.
I found that using 1/4-1/2 a capful of our regular liquid detergent was plenty but not too much and everything rinsed very clean! Because we drained the water into the toilet I could easily see when the water was running clean and the rinse was sufficient.
It is much more labor intensive than using a traditional washer and dryer, but, in my opinion, well worth the cost and effort involved with schlepping all of our laundry to the laundromat and waiting around for hours to finish everything. I'm so grateful to be able to do laundry in our own home while getting other stuff done! Certainly a relief! I really do feel that our clothes are cleaner than they ever have been (even considering when we previously had a traditional washer and dryer)!
The spinner works wonderfully and our clothes dried within a couple of hours.
This machine is very light (about 30 lbs) and has handles. I am 9 months pregnant and was able to easily move it from one room to another even though it has no wheels (maybe a useful feature in the future).
I washed everything from towels to sweatpants and a sheet set without any problems. You have to split the loads into half or a third for the spin side, though. I found our clothes were super clean never running the agitator side longer than 6 minutes and never running the spin side longer than 3 minutes (with rinse water flowing into it for 2 of the 3 minutes).
A great buy and it literally pays for itself in a few months. Well worth the investment to be able to do your laundry without leaving your house.
