I would not have jumped at the initial Price but I did at 35 and I did it even at that begrudgingly. I have been described as....particular and I don't a lot of room to argue against it so when I say my pepper is expected to be fresh cracked know i don't compromise. Getting older now though and the grinding work is getting to be harder on me as i also am a heavy pepper user. Mechanical assistance it is.
This unit has a firm but easy to press top button to start grinding. It's not an out of control pepper slaughterer and it's easy to control pepper loading. Easier than doing it by hand I think, with a hand grinder i was definitely applying pepper a half turn or more at a time but this time i can stop when it's just right. It's the little things.
It takes four AA batteries that are not included EACH so two grinders will clear out some batteries. The spice holding area isn't very large but it's large enough to survive at least four of my dishes worth of pepper grinding and an entire McCormick single use pepper grinder could not.
My only complaint is the base is does not seem to go with the grinders, it doesn't secure it at all, it's too large. I consider it a minor gripe but if you are thinking this will stay up in an RV cooking set, don't expect an included secure solution.
Easy to use, excellent features, priced competitively, and heads-up design makes this powered grinder a win in my book.
Edit: Later I did something and the whole bottom fell out. It seems I somehow unscrewed it by holding it too close while grinding. It wasn't too difficult to put back together but i made the mistake again but this time i seem to have lost a very unique screwed washer of some sort and i can no longer put one of them back together.

Advice:
- For optimal performance and power use brand name alkaline non-rechargeable AA LR6 batteries.
- Inserting the batteries in the wrong way leads to little or no grinding.
- Use peppercorns in diameter no bigger than 5mm, most brands are smaller than that.
- Use dry coarse salt only. If your salt is damp, let it air dry for up to 48 hours. Do not use damp or fine salt.
- Clean the grinding mechanism every 6 months or as needed and do not submerge under water or other liquids.

A Search for the BEST Battery Mill!

I decided to rank each in the categories of material quality, ease of adjusting, grinding mechanism, packaging, and overall misc. features.Material Quality-1. Epare2. Flafster3. Latent EpicureSo I will say that the Latent & Flafster models were almost identical other than the grinding mechanism. Other than that they both had kind of flimsy caps and the steel on them did not really look as nice as the Epare one.Ease of Loading & Adjusting-1. Flafster & Latent Epicure2. EpareOn these points Flafster & Latent were identically the better solutions, their adjustment knob was a bit easier to use and loading them was also much simpler as their container had a larger opening.Grinding Mechanism-1. Epare2. Flafster3. Latent EpicureSo I took each grinder and compared them at their most fine setting, then a setting in between, and then in a very coarse setting. I operated at each setting for exactly 10 seconds each, you can see the photos I posted to compare. I think at the end of the day this grinding score is the most important as it is a product that is meant to grind well. The consistency of grind and output speed was much better on the Epare over the other two. The Latent one barely had any output. Both the Latent and Flafster performed very poorly on the most coarse setting, and that is my favorite setting, so Epare is the winner.Packaging-1. Flafster2. Epare3. Latent EpicureThe Flafster was packed very well and had the best instructions, then followed by Epare and in last place Latent. You can look at the photos to see how it all looked.Misc-1. Epare2. Latent Epicure3. FlafsterSo here I wanted to look at the little additional features, like the lights. The Epare one was very nice and bright, the other grinders not so much. Epare & Latent also had some extra support for the batteries, did not see this on Flafster and I guess it's probably quite important.
