How Does the EZ 4G Work?

EZ 4G is designed for locations that have cellular signal where the window antenna is placed.

As with all signal booster products, EZ 4G cannot create signal where there is none. Instead, the antenna captures existing signal, amplifies it and rebroadcasts the boosted signal to an area of otherwise poor or non-existent coverage. Finding a location with consistent signal that the window antenna can capture is important and will improve performance.

Indoor coverage area is directly related to the existing signal strength available at the window location. For best performance we recommend a minimum 30 feet of horizontal separation between the base station and window unit. Without this separation performance will suffer and the coverage area will be reduced. Please note: If there is weak signal at the window location, we recommend a kit that includes an outside roof antenna to capture a stronger signal, such as the Fusion4Home.

My husband and I recently moved and were having terrible signal problems. He has AT&T and I have Verizon and both of us were repeatedly dropping calls. Most of the time our phones wouldn’t even ring because the signal was so weak. I admit that the EZ4G is a bit pricey, but I have to have reliable cell phone signal because I work from home and use my cell as my work phone.

I thought that the installation would have been more difficult but as the box claims, it was “plug-and-play”. You literally just place the booster (the round neat looking piece) on a window sill, connect it to the antenna, which we placed at the other end of our living room, and plug it in. Normally, I have around 1 bar. As soon as we plugged it in, my phone immediately went up to 4 bars throughout our house. I’ve noticed that it bounces between 3-4 bars but that’s plenty to make and receive calls. It has relieved so much frustration and I couldn’t be happier with the boost the EZ4G gives my signal.

If it works for you it will be worth the money. I think my problem is I am in a dead zone. You need at least 100 to boost. I believe mine was 85-90. When i hooked it up and ran the cable my phone reading went to about 85 if I layed phone next to antenna. Otherwise there was no change in room readings so I returned it. I belive it will work for many and installing requies running caple about 20 feet. Cable included. So if you know it will work, installation for me requied running cable from den into crawl space, and then bring it up intoo living room. I received refund no problem.

The device's planning is more problematic than its actual placement. Finding a satisfactory solution in a small condo for both good reception and yet the requisite 25 - 30 foot distance to the base station may be problematic. For a 1 bedroom unit or a unit limited to one floor, no ready solution might even be found to be workable. Next is figuring out how to course the Coaxial cable if a stairwell, hallway or room threshold is to be encounterd in the cable's course of placement. Attaching the antenna and base station and the power source attachment at the antenna is facile as is antenna placement. Once the coaxial cable path can be designated using some preformed chase or some stables or clips is fairly mundane.
The unit surprisingly gave more amplification than I expected. It is advised to use signal strengths in terms of db-m rather than bar readings which are inconsistent between smartphones and generally worthless. Lowering my -115 dB-m to perhaps 88 dB-m (lower is better) showed marked data delivery gain, but voice quality remained problematic in the outgoing direction. While antenna placement as well as the base station distancing from the antenna are both important, having some consideration of other factors are also important. The voice function was not usable until experimenting a bit got me to thinking of Bluetooth interference. Voice functionality including outgoing voice (previously a problem as versus incoming voice) was gained wit the Bluetooth disengaged. It is important to consider this. Bluetooth may be a 'double whammy', consuming power resources while also inerfering with reception in a dynamic fashion as it goes through cycles of frequency jumping which can cause local circuit impedence jumps as Bluetooth service contact jumps in and out of the 2.5 GHz frequencies otherwise imperceptively. Harmonically generated frequencies may directly alter the cellular signal emanating from the smartphone, at least as my understanding of RF physics would have me believe. If I am wrong, this does not matter in the end: try the cellular device with Bluetooth functionality turned off. It may just solve the issue. Current function is crystal clear. Bluetooth disengagement attempted in the past was not effective by itself, so that I am certain the improved result is from a compounded solution rather than from either one in and of itself.
