The sound is so crisp and clear it is a little difficult to take in all of the nuances of the frequency response and the exceptional clarity. At first, I thought the sound was underwhelming... but after listening, and listening closely... I was AMAZED by the crisp, distinctive, and precise response from the speaker (s). This is about the size of a bookshelf speaker AND it puts out sound that is so lifelike you could close your eyes and imagine you are in the Studio with the artist.
As others have mentioned it is the loudest bluetooth speaker I have heard... but more than that, there is very little distortion as the volume is increased. Usually you will see an increase in distortion as you push the amp taking the volume over 50%... I took the speaker to volume level 8 (typically I won't push the volume over 50%... but I was testing)... This speaker delivers full, well defined responses with crisp highs, well defined mids and really solid base.
I have found this speaker to perform well with any type of music but as others have noted there is a Sweet spot that can be found playing 70's and 80's rock... Crunch!!
Hooking it up to my tv as soon as the av cable gets here... (Amazon, hurry up)
Volume: As with most units this size, it performs very well as long as the source is not over driven. Because the volume adjustment on this is analogue, you can adjust the volume on the speaker and on your input device. Now when it does start to struggle it is a very progressive fade into distortion, but even at it's limits the distortion and buzzing that starts to creep in is purely from the cones, the rest of the hardware is built well enough to handle the acoustic load without rattling or buzzing.
Adjustments: One word, Analogue. As much as I enjoy a good bit of digital tech, when it comes to making fine audio adjustments, you just can't beat a high quality knob, and you get one for highs, and one for lows. As delightfully simple as it is effective.
Sound: C'mon, just read the name on the front of the thing, it is top notch, over bluetooth or plugged in, you can get a ridiculous amount of sound quality out of this little thing. It is the perfect blend of the old and the new.
The SOUND is awesome, with a lot of Clarity and punchy bass. Loud? YEP.. It fills my house. I have it staged mostly in my media room that opens to a second floor and the sound carries throughout. If it is in your budget, this is the one to get.. Oh and style is way cool for a 70s rocker like me ..

It is expensive and you can get a better bang for your buck, but if you choose this speaker, you will be at an other level.

There are many different ways to connect to this speaker - optical cable, 1/8" stereo and Bluetooth. My choice is Bluetooth so I can run it in my back yard - I use it with a long-range Avantree transmitter and get great results. Not to mention the 'cool' factor of having a Mashall Amp on which to play music - and the reaction I get from visitors when they find the source of the rich, full, and balanced sound blend from my Stanmore. Treble and Bass controls enable a significant degree of equalization. This is a pure, 'man-cave' gift that is sure to provide years of pleasure.
